Missouri 63, Illinois 56 POSTGAME

I still think Miami was worse, but it’s up there
I definitely think this was worse than Miami. At least with Miami they came out on fire and was hitting everything they threw at the rim. We came out flat but sometimes the other team just gets hot. Today we were out hustled, out coached, and simply punked by our own former players in a heated rivalry game. No excuse for that.

What Pickett said is very disturbing to hear. He said they knew they were tougher than the Illini. It's unfortunately true, also. This team is soft. If i were Underwood i'd show this to the players. Anybody with any pride or toughness would make sure this doesn't happen, again.

DW is not the problem, but the fact that he plays so much is a problem. I heard all offseason about how we don’t need his offense, he does the other things well. Our offense sucks and we need guys that can create and score. We cant stay with other teams when they pick and roll us, but somehow we can’t figure out how to set a pick to save our lives. There probably was one somewhere, but I cant think of a single instance where we set an effective pick that gave us an advantage the whole damn game. Time for Underwood to earn his pay and figure this out. No excuse for today or this season so far.

This team is a joke. Never seen a softer group of men. I’d smoke that Mizzou team with my YMCA squad.
Do they have eligibility left?...thinking if the Y team are willing to show up next year as walkons, we could play them and break the losing streak....thoughts?

The handles of our guards is going to cause lots of trouble this year. Both AZ and today they applied heavy on ball pressure and we fell apart. Throw in little to no 3pt shooting and in this era of hoops that is a recipe for disaster against most decent teams. Today showed it is against mediocre ones who are more engaged too.

Understand your point....but a lengthy rant on DW when everyone sucked today (save Ayo) is exaggerating his overall impact. We didnt lose today based on DW s play.

I agree the whole team sucked today...terribly sucked....BUT, BU has been playing an overmatched player ( DW ) ahead of younger players ( AG, TJ )and it is biting us in the butt bigtime...

Once again, I have no ill will towards DW, but if you are watching DW and think he is ever gong to be HRF then you need a different hobby...He ain't , and never will be the player that some here think he is...And he NEVER has graded out to be the best player on the team...puff, puff, pass if you think that...He has lost games by making terrible out of bounds passes, poor defense and not being able to make a simple unguarded layup...CMON now , facts are facts...it's time to quit dreaming on him and let the younger players play...they will make mistakes but not as many as he does ...glue guy is right ...his feet are stuck to the court on D....

We lost by being out toughed and no offensive scheme's other than that silly weave......the drinking shall begin......heavily............

I don’t see 11 more wins on the schedule, do you? We just can’t shoot, even the guys who are good shooters. I don’t know why.

Mizzou gooned it up and we had no answer. I can’t wait until PSU uses the same plan and runs us out of Bryce-Jordan by 25.

Underwood lost me when he decided to play the same boring anti-basketball everyone in the NCAA plays now. All he has left to offer is wins. If they don’t come, he can kick as many trash cans as he wants on his way to a gig in the Sun Belt.

Ayo had a good game but it could’ve been dominate. He couldve drove down the lane the entire time, and when miz adjusts he could’ve just dumped it out to Trent and company for easy shots. I’m losing confidence in Underwood to put these players in easy situations. This roster’s too good to lose to teams like Miami and miznoz even on a bad day

21 points, but zero assists and four turnovers.

Inexcusable to have the lack of assists and # of turnovers we had. That’s on Underwood. With how miz was attacking on defense you’d think we’d be prepared for it seeing as that’s how we’ve played the last two yrs

Look at his stats for almost 30 minutes played. He was a disaster not even counting the 2 missed layups. He is never going to give us any offense. Even Verdonk, Tevian and Alan would give us much more if they were given 25 to 30 minutes a game.

For those of you that are into this grading thing, TRank after 11 games and using 16 different categories (including some defensive), has DMW at #91 in the
B1G. For Underwood to give us this "he grades out the best" stuff is just another example of his coach speak, which is an insult to most knowledgeable fans. Offensively, you will never win playing 4 on 5.

Embarrassing. This team lacks heart. The major takeaway I have from this game is its absolutely time for Griffin to start over Damonte.

Damonte should never have been starting! He absolutely kills us offensively every time he touches the ball!

He does great things on the other ends of the floor, but he is a black hole offensively...

4 total assists today, came darn close to the all time low school record of 3 set back in 1999.

I don't think that....I know that....based on the direct quote from the coach. They are the ones grading him out based on every aspect of the game.
So....however you want to spin your lame diatribe...it's just tired. You just don't know what you are talking about. Period.

The fact is DMW isn't the player YOU want him to be....flashy, gifted offensively, and pouring in points.

So anything the coach says is "coach speak". So what is true and what isn't?

-I actually think Ayo had his best game as an Illini. He was the only one able to go get a bucket today. And don't blame him for not having assists, he passed out several times to wide open shooters and they either missed or didn't take the shot at all.
-Mi. Smith got in Giorgi's head early and tormented him the whole game.
Giorgi has on to many occasions gone street ball on the offensive end this year and picks up to many STUPID fouls.
-I do believe its time for Griffin to start the rest of the year at the 3.
-I also believe we have to run more sets for Trent. He has to get more shots up. I wish I had the stats but it seems like when he was a freshman he was relentless to the hole.
-not blaming the refs on this loss...but...Kofi was fouled every time he touched the ball.

I think we all love the effort DMW gives us defensively and with rebounds, but at some point he has to give us something offensively such as making the easy layups and baskets

So many posts about how much talent we have on this team. Sorry, but it's time we stopped drinking the kool-aid. It just isn't so. We can look terrific against low level teams, but up against a team with real talent, we just fold. Sure, Underwood is turning out to be a mediocre coach, but there's not a lot he can do with a team that won't play together or play hard. We can pull off an occasional upset when the basketball gods are smiling on us, but the Big Ten is just too tough to sleepwalk through the season. Let's hope Curbelo, Miller and Hawkins have some mental toughness. My preseason prediction was 16-15. I hope we get there.
