Refs called way too many fouls overall.
Flagrant was bad, but not a killer. If it was an acting job, he deserves an oscar. Weird sequence, but only cost us one point, they had the ball and we got our basket.
Miznoz made the free throws over the course of the game.
We were playing from behind the whole game.
3 players scored 69 of our 78 points, if that is our depth, we are in Big trouble. The Duke game had great scoring balance, need to be more like that.
Of the players that left or decommitted, who would have thought Pickett would give the ILLINI the most trouble.

GO ILLINI!
On to Minnesota!

"Ayo Dosunmu said he heard Mizzou coaches yell "foul" before his last shot so he tried to draw contact when Mizzou reached at him."

I actually DO believe this. I almost posted this last night. It looked like Ayo was trying to draw a foul on that last shot. I don't like it, but there is logic to it, especially the way the refs were blowing the whistles last night.

Unfortunately, no one on Mizzou even grazed him, and instead the shot looked like garbage.

Hate to say it but except for the last 5 minutes Mizzou just played with an intensity that showed they wanted it more. When you are ranked in the top ten teams are gonna bring it. hopefully we learned that lesson. Still looking forward to a great season.

Effort. Plain and simple.

When you miss that many FTs and get ZERO offensive rebounds in the first half, you’re not playing hard. Miznoz got so many loose balls and long rebounds while our guys were slow reacting.
They came to play and we didn’t, with one exception.

Now we know Ayo can do almost everything.

If we don't learn how to rebound and make free throws, this will keep happening to us in the Big 10.

Yup, 4 top 50 guys should beat 1 top 50 guy all day long. If not, you point to only one thing....in game coaching. The use of the clock and timeouts in the last minute was a disaster.

I get your point, but we are not a team of freshman one and dones like Kentucky. We have enough veterans to have a better effort than we saw last night. We will be fine, but that was a poor effort by most of the team and Underwood said as much in the postgame.

Really makes me wish we could have found a way to keep that 2017 scholly with Javon Pickett rather than say Matic Vessel or whoever ended up with it...

Have Kofi go with Antigua and have him practice 1 on 2 with Hamlin and Lieb and catch passes and try to score going up strong or pass out of the double.

I get your point nobody hate Mizzou as much as I do, but our experience does not come close to theirs with 4 of their top 7 players are either RS seniors or seniors the next 2 are juniors and 3 of those players have a personal hate for illini. I guess my point is relax bc I can see clownzo talking all of them to come back and next year and we will get our butt whooped, bc we could be younger next year.

That phantom foul on Kofi early in the game which made Kofi fall down to the floor in disbelief was a forecast for the rest of the game officiating wise. With that said, this team deserved to lose, missing that many FTs was ridiculous and AYO needs to trust his teammates more.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
This team is averaging 15 turnovers a game. If that holds, which I don't think it will, it will be at least 1.5/game higher than any Illini team I can find a record of over the last 20 years.

Totally agree, If you are a top 10 team need to come out from the tip. Duke is bad and let's be done with that game. Mizzou just outplayed the Illini who looked like they did not want to be there. Just because you made a run at the end means nothing, it means you dug yourself a hole by playing badly.

Here's a stats breakdown for last night's tough loss! I thought the game felt pretty "even", not just from a score perspective but also from a "scoring opportunities" perspective, and the stats bear that out:

Both teams had the exact same # of "weighted shots". This is a term (FG attempts + 0.475 * FT attempts) that I think John Gasaway coined. I plan to use it going forward for consistency. The difference in points-per-shot on 2P and 3P was also really small, amounting to around 1 point over a full game. This meant that Mizzou's better FT scoring (0.5 points more per foul) made the difference.

Weighted averages are tricky. You want to say "ok, so 2P and 3P were a wash. Mizzou scored 0.5 points more per shooting foul, and there were about 14 of those, so they won by... 7?" But it doesn't quite work that way. Yes, on a shot-for-shot basis 2P and 3P were a wash, but between the two, 2P shots were better scoring opportunities in this game — and we focused a lot more on twos than Mizzou did.

One other weird point: how did Mizzou end up with the same # of weighted shots as us despite being net -9 to our -7 on OR/TO? One extra chance came from the Flagrant 1 on Kofi — that gave the Tigers back-to-back possessions (2-shot foul, then the ball). The other I haven't found yet. It probably comes from which team started/ended each half, but could be a mistake on my part, too.

We should beat mizzou. We didn’t. We almost lost to Ohio U. We gonna hang our hat on Duke? Worst Duke team in 3 decades. Baylor exposed us. Iowa is ELITE. Baylor destroyed us... everyone has orange colored glasses on but sweet 16 is a pipe dream at this point
Baylor destroyed us? The game was close most of the way with Kofi on the bench the whole game.

Can’t give up 81 pts and get out rebounded and win. Sorry to say we got outcoached. I am including lousy free throwing as coaching as we have consistently stunk all season. Blaming it on the refs or lack of effort is BS. Something is wrong when Curbelo is out rebounding Miller.
Coaches can't make shots for players, sometimes its on the players. We weren't outcoached IMO.

Cuerbelo needs to calm down. He's going to be great but he's trying to do too much and has some bad turnovers. I think it will get better soon.

Curbelo looked better last night than he did against Baylor and Duke. He's moving in the right direction.

For all the hand-wringing about Curbelo you'd think he had more than 2 turnovers. That's right, 2. To go with 14 points and 4 assists. I also think he kind of brought Kofi back into this game a little at the end with a couple nice feeds that allowed Kofi to build a little confidence. I think Ayo and Curbelo are honestly the only two players who don't need to fret about their performance too much (though they should practice FTs)

Serious question wonder if anyone knows the answer - how many of Ayo's 6 turnovers were passes that Kofi was unable to handle?
I remember the one that Kofi just plain didn't catch on a break. Pretty sure offensive fouls are TOs, correct? Didn't Ayo have 3 offensive fouls within a couple mins?

There are four of the TOs.

Don't remember if there were 3, but one of his offensive fouls/TOs was that terrible charge call.
