Donald Jay Fagen (born January 10, 1948) is an American musician best known as the co-founder, lead singer, co-songwriter, and keyboardist of the band Steely Dan, formed in the early 1970s. He has also released four albums as a solo artist and in 2001 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The 2017 death of Steely Dan's co-founder Walter Becker left Fagen as the only remaining original member.

I am a big Steely Dan fan, so when I read about this album I just had to give it a listen and I'm sure glad I did........Tight progressive sound and beat , with numerous musicians contributing to this work......
The percussion , guitars and keyboards are top notch.....Lyrics are pro NYC ish, but that's part of the beauty of this album......Been listening to it for 15 years now and I still want to get up and dance to it..........Excellent production and the blending of the heavy bass drum as the rock of the songs, you should acquire a taste for it pretty quickly..........The fit of the rhythm guitars throughout the background of the tunes gives it the vibezzzzzz....
The organ and electric piano hit at the right time sequence throughout the tracks and add so much to the FULLNESS of the songs......

My fav's are........................
Mary Shut the Garden Door
The Night Belongs to Mona

"" I want my BTO.......I want my BTO.............I want my.......""

Bachman–Turner Overdrive,[1] often abbreviated as BTO, were a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba founded by Randy Bachman, Robbie Bachman and Fred Turner. Their 1970s catalogue included five Top 40 albums and six US Top 40 singles (eleven in Canada). BTO has five certified Gold albums and one certified Platinum album in the US; in Canada, they have six certified Platinum albums and one certified Gold album. The band has sold nearly 30 million albums worldwide, and has fans affectionately known as "gearheads"[2] (derived from the band's gear-shaped logo). Many of their songs, including "Let It Ride", "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", "Takin' Care of Business", "Hey You", and "Roll on Down the Highway", still receive play on classic-rock stations.

Bachman–Turner Overdrive is the self-titled debut album by Canadian rock band Bachman–Turner Overdrive, released in 1973. It was originally to be titled Brave Belt III, as Brave Belt was the name of the group before they became Bachman–Turner Overdrive.

Although this album did not produce a true hit single ("Blue Collar" only managed to reach #68 on the U.S. Billboard charts), it was certified "Gold" by the RIAA in 1974, largely pulled up by strong sales of BTO's two subsequent albums (Bachman–Turner Overdrive II and Not Fragile).

In later years, this first album was often referred to as "BTO 1" to distinguish it from the band's follow-up second album.

BTO is the ideal music for that 4:20 time of day we all look forward to.....My first introduction to BTO was again down at SIU-C at a get together at my uncle's trailer for a grillout and festivities...When I walked into the trailer somebody hollered at me to set my butt down, get a head going and listen to this band ............This album grabs you and makes you pay attention to it.....Randy Bachman is such an accomplished guitarist and many songs have 2 lead riffs going on same notes with different wah wah or fuzzbuster and it makes me HAPPY...........

Blue Collar would be my fav song pick , but all are great.................

It was hard to pick this album over " Not Fragile " with the title song as the lead in to that album, but, roots of my love for BTO is their debut album.....Enjoy.....

Duran Duran (/djʊˌræn djʊˈræn/) are an English new wave[4] band formed in Birmingham in 1978. The group was a leading band in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US in the 1980s.[5] The group was formed by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and bassist John Taylor, with the later addition of drummer Roger Taylor, and after numerous personnel changes, guitarist Andy Taylor (none of the Taylors are related) and lead singer Simon Le Bon. These five members featured the most commercially successful line-up

Duran Duran (commonly known as The Wedding Album) is the seventh studio album and the second self-titled album by English new wave band Duran Duran. It was released on 11 February 1993 by Parlophone.
After dwindling commercial success in the early 1990s, Duran Duran returned to the UK top five and US top 10 with this album, which has been certified Gold in the UK and Platinum in the US. The singles "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone" reached the US top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Love this album......progressive swaying beat........I used to listen to this with volume up to window rattling level, as it would piss my ex (now) off so much...
And I enjoyed it so much, both the album and pissing her off.......
Ordinary World and Come Undone are great, but the whole lineup flows with that techno beat incorporated with excellent vocals and instrumentation.....

It's really one of only 2-3 of their works I have gave much scrutiny to....I should listen to Rio and some others to experience the full Duran Duran flavor....

Thoughts :

I am having a blast doing these "" pick of the whatever time of day it is "" renderings....I really really am.......Revisiting some artists that I let slide for a while , like Spirit , etc.........
I also hope that some of you viewing these posts might have picked up somebody that you hadn't listened to before or wanted to listen to before and that you investigated and listened to them and found a new artist to enjoy...........

Spotify is such a boon to me when I want to rediscover some tunes that influenced me early on .....And , no, I don't get a stipend or own stock in Spotify, i just decided it was superior to Pandora and a couple of other music sites I tried out....

So, let music into your life , heart and mind and reap the benefits it can bestow upon your aura........it;s a trip for me .....Music , from 6am till 8-9-10 pm..

I dig it !!!

The Allman Brothers Band were an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969[3] by brothers Duane Allman (founder, slide guitar and lead guitar) and Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboards, songwriting), as well as Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass guitar), Butch Trucks (drums), and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). Subsequently, based in Macon, Georgia, the band incorporated elements of blues, jazz, and country music, and their live shows featured jam band-style improvisation and instrumentals.

A Decade of Hits 1969–1979 is a compilation album of the Allman Brothers Band, released in 1991. The album features songs released on The Allman Brothers Band, Idlewild South, At Fillmore East, Eat a Peach, Brothers and Sisters, and Enlightened Rogues. It is the band's best-selling album in the U.S., being certified double platinum by the RIAA in 1997.[1]

  15. "Dreams" (Gregg Allman) – 7:19
  16. "Whipping Post" (Gregg Allman) – 5:17
The Allman Brothers Band was another step in my music appreciation pathway.........Greg Allman has such a soulful voice and his mastery of the
Hammond B3 organ was always a major part of my breaking down of a song's heartbeat....

Duane Allman , in my opinion , will never receive the praise that he is and now , was due for his awesome guitar play....Another musican taken to soon....the list is so long to mention here , but I wonder sometimes about the great music we have missed out on because of their too soon passing..

"" Midnight Rider "" is my fav song here , with "" In Memory of Elizabeth Reed "" a close second......But this work is a 10 year period of excellence in their craft........When I read or hear talk about down home blues for my generation I think of The Allman Brothers Band first and foremost.......Enjoy..........

ZZ Top[a] is an American rock band formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. The group consists of founder Billy Gibbons (vocals, guitar), Dusty Hill (vocals, bass), and Frank Beard (drums). Initially rooted in blues, the band's style has evolved throughout their career, with a signature sound based on Gibbons' blues guitar style and the rhythm section of Hill and Beard. Their lyrics, often embellished with sexual innuendo, focus on their Texas roots and sense of humor. Popular for their live performances and the identical physical appearances of Gibbons and Hill—who are rarely seen without their long beards, sunglasses, and Stetson[citation needed] hats—the group has staged several elaborate tours.

Tres Hombres is the third studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top. It was originally released by London Records in July 1973 and was the first album on which the band worked with engineer Terry Manning. Tres Hombres, Spanish for "Three Men", was a successful combination as the release was the band's commercial breakthrough. In the US, the album entered the top ten while the single "La Grange" reached number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The first time I heard ZZ Top was in late 1973 , in my bud's 69 Camaro, going around 100 mph on I-57 , to a party @ SIU-C and I have been hooked since then...........
Saw them live in Midland-Odessa TX in 1975 when travelling to meet my now ex-in-laws......The concert was the only redeeming value of the trip.....I got stopped in Arkansas coming home with a large quantity of Aca*pu*co G*ld by a very nice state trooper who informed me that I had a tailight out and needed to get it repaired within 15 days....handed me one of those hanging chad slips and said "" Have a good day, young man "".....I sh*t you not.......

Anyway , I won't go over ALL the songs on this album as I don't want to b/c it would take all evening.....

Shiek and LaGrange are my top picks, but what intrigues me more than anything is the full all encompassing sound out of three dudes playing their arse's off.....I still marvel at their sound, their tightness of playing, their expertise to drive a hard sound into your soul.....I doubt there will be anyone who reads these music anon posts that haven't heard of ZZ Top.....but if there is one music fan that I can help discover the beauty of this band , then mission accomplished......Enjoy.......................

Black Sabbath were an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. They are often cited as pioneers of heavy metal music.[1] The band helped define the genre with releases such as Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970), and Master of Reality (1971). The band had multiple line-up changes following Osbourne's departure in 1979, with Iommi being the only constant member throughout its history.

It was released on 13 February 1970 in the United Kingdom by Vertigo Records and on 1 June 1970 in the United States by Warner Bros. Records. The album is widely regarded as the first album in the heavy metal genre. Additionally, the opening track, the self-titled "Black Sabbath", has been referred to as the first doom metal song.[2]

Upon release, the album reached number eight on the UK Albums Charts and number 23 on the US Billboard 200. It was included in Robert Dimery's book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Wow......I will never forget the numerous times while I was on a TRIP of listening to this album......This pick from this band was a no brainer for me, and I love Paranoid and Masters of Reality, but in the darkness of my basement bedroom , shielded from my bible thumping parents by my headphones and righteous self medication , the world was mine to imagine and explore.....From Ozzy's haunting vocals leading you into a dark world to the rest of the band playing their razor sharp licks , it was a universe, for me , of new thinking......New age ........where does the universe begin or end type of heady rebellion against the establishment that my parents and all around me firmly had entrenched into their mind , body and soul.....

It was a tussle of epic proportions , fueled by bands like Black Sabbath , Led Zeppelin , Pink Floyd , etc...Vietnam war was winding down some.....protests everywhere.............History was unfolding everyday before my eyes and I latched on to music as my rock .......my anchor.....And I have never been sorry for doing that as music has really brought the most long lasting pleasure of my life....I love the people that have been in my life , but my music never turned it's back to me and I will never turn my back to music......ever

The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965, with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore. They were among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s; mostly due to Morrison's lyrics and voice, along with his erratic stage persona, and the group was widely regarded as an important part of the era's counterculture.[4]

The band took its name from the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, itself a reference to a quote by William Blake. After signing with Elektra Records, the Doors with Morrison released six albums in five years, some of which are considered among the greatest of all time,[5] including The Doors (1967),[6] Strange Days (1967),[7] and L.A. Woman (1971).[8] They were one of the most successful bands during that time and by 1972 the Doors had sold over 4 million albums domestically and nearly 8 million singles.[9]

The Doors is the debut album by the American rock band the Doors. Recorded in 1966 at Sunset Sound Recorders, Hollywood, California, it was produced by Paul A. Rothchild and released on January 4, 1967. The album features a wide range of musical influences, including jazz, classical, blues, pop, R&B and rock music.[5] Since its release, the record has been often declared as one of the greatest debut-albums of all time, by numerous publications. It features the long version of the breakthrough single "Light My Fire" and the lengthy song "The End" with its Oedipal spoken word section.[6][7]

The Doors and "Light My Fire" have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2015 the Library of Congress selected The Doors for inclusion in the National Recording Registry based on its cultural, artistic or historical significance.[8]

All tracks are written by the Doors (Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore), except where noted. Details are taken from the 1967 U.S. Elektra release; other releases may show different information.[21]

Wow, where do I start to explain the influence that The Doors had on my growth as a music lover and a musician............This album was released in
January 1967..........I was only 15 when I first heard this album and the magic of this band was evident from the start of my listening experience through these many years......Jim Morrison was as controversial as anyone back then and the controversy regarding lyrics being sung on the Ed Sullivan Show

was interesting to say the least......Morrison's voice was unique.......Brash, but soulful.....great timing of when to emphasize a verse or yelp....didn't matter....back then Morrison was the listen to guy....

To me the leader of the band was Ray Manzarek..........Playing his Vox organ and bass keyboards at the same time inspired me to learn as much as I could about the magic he was playing.....I was in a band and after hearing this album I started bugging my dad for a musical upgrade from the crappy keyboard I was using and , lo and behold , my dad unexpectedly loaded me up and we went to Dallas Music in Evansville , In......Later that day I was home hooking up my own double keyboard Vox organ and sweet Silvertone amp.......That was a day I'll never forget....It's strange how music sometimes affects your personal relationship with somebody in such a positive way....I loved my dad before he did that for me , but you know he became my Superman, Batman and Mighty Mouse that day....

This debut album by The Doors is required listening to understand the sign's of the times back in the mid to late 60's.......What a ride it was !!!

"" All Right Now..........................Set Yourself "" FREE ""...............................

1625871930456.png
://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_(band)

Free were an English rock band formed in London in 1968, best known for their 1970 signature song "All Right Now".[1] They disbanded in 1973; lead singer Paul Rodgers went on to become the frontman of the band Bad Company, which also featured his Free bandmate Simon Kirke on drums.[2] Lead guitarist Paul Kossoff formed Back Street Crawler in 1973, but died from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 25 in 1976.[3] Bassist Andy Fraser formed Sharks.[4]

Free became renowned for their live shows and non-stop touring. However, their studio albums did not sell very well until their third, Fire and Water, featured the massive hit "All Right Now". The song helped secure them a place at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970, where they played to 600,000 people.[5] In the early 1970s Free became one of the biggest-selling British blues rock[6][7][8] groups; by the time they disbanded, they had sold more than 20 million albums around the world and had played more than 700 arena and festival concerts. "All Right Now" remains a R&B staple, and has been entered in ASCAP's "One Million" airplay singles club.[9][10]

1625872067041.png

Fire and Water is the third studio album by the English rock group Free. It became the band's breakthrough, achieving widespread commercial success after the band's first two studio albums had faced a more muted response. With the "tremendous" acclaim of Fire and Water at their backs, in the words of AllMusic, Free headlined the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival and "appeared destined for superstardom".[2]

Specifically, Fire and Water reached No. 2 on the U.K. album chart, being listed on it for a total of eighteen weeks. In contrast, neither of the band's prior two studio albums had charted at all.[3] Fire and Water additionally reached No. 17 on the U.S. chart.[citation needed]

The album spawned the popular single "All Right Now", praised by publications such as AllMusic as a hard rock "smash powered by [Paul] Rodgers' gritty, visceral vocals".[2] The song became a Top five rock hit in not just the group's native United Kingdom,[3] but it additionally did well in multiple European countries such as Austria, France, and Germany.

All tracks written by Andy Fraser and Paul Rodgers unless otherwise stated. The details are taken from the A&M album, since the Island release does not include running times, and may differ from other releases.

Music critic Matthew Greenwald has written for AllMusic praising the album. He stated that by 1970 "Free presented itself to the world as a complete band, in every sense of the word", particularly with elements ranging from "Paul Kossoff's exquisite and tasteful guitar work to Paul Rodgers' soulful vocals" on display for listeners. He also positively compared the group's work with that of bands Blind Faith, Cream, and Derek and the Dominos.

Santana 1971 .................................... Carlos Santana.....current.....

Santana
is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist and songwriter Carlos Santana. The band has undergone multiple recording and performing line-ups in its history, with Carlos Santana the only consistent member. Santana had early success with their appearance at Woodstock in 1969 and their first three albums, Santana (1969), Abraxas (1970), and Santana III (1971). Other important core members during this period include Gregg Rolie, Michael Carabello, Michael Shrieve, David Brown, and José "Chepito" Areas, forming the "classic" line-up.

Following its initial success Santana experimented with elements of jazz fusion on Caravanserai (1972), Welcome (1973), and Borboletta (1974). Santana reached a new peak of commercial and critical success with Supernatural (1999) and its singles "Smooth", featuring singer Rob Thomas, and "Maria Maria". The album reached No. 1 in eleven countries and sold 12 million copies in the US. In 2014, the "classic" line-up reunited for Santana IV (2016) and the group continue to perform and record.

Santana is one of the best-selling groups of all time with 43.5 million certified albums sold the US, and an estimated 100 million sold worldwide.[10][11] Its discography include 25 studio albums, 14 of which reached the US top 10. In 1998, the line-up of Santana, Rolie, Carabello, Shrieve, Brown, and Areas was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[12] In 2000, the band won six Grammy Awards in one night, a record tied with Michael Jackson, and three Latin Grammy Awards.[13]

Supernatural is the eighteenth studio album by Latin rock band Santana, released on June 15, 1999, on Arista Records. After Santana found themselves without a label in the mid-1990s, founding member and guitarist Carlos Santana began talks with Arista president Clive Davis. Davis had originally signed the group to Columbia Records in 1969 when he was president of that label. Santana and Davis collaborated with A&R man Pete Ganbarg, as Santana wanted to focus on pop and radio-friendly material; Santana collaborated with contemporary guest artists including Eric Clapton, Rob Thomas, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, Maná, KC Porter and CeeLo Green.

Supernatural was a commercial success worldwide, generating renewed interest in Santana's music. It reached No. 1 in eleven countries, including the US for 12 non-consecutive weeks, where it is certified 15× platinum. The first of six singles from the album, "Smooth" featuring Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas, was a number one success worldwide and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 12 weeks. The next, "Maria Maria", featuring the Product G&B, was number one in the US for 10 weeks. Supernatural has sold an estimated 30 million copies worldwide.

Robert Anthony Plant CBE (born 20 August 1948) is a British singer and songwriter, best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the English rock band Led Zeppelin.

Plant enjoyed great success with Led Zeppelin from the late 1960s to the end of the 1970s. He developed a compelling image as the charismatic rock-and-roll front man, similar to those of contemporaries such as Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, Roger Daltrey of the Who, Jim Morrison of the Doors, and Freddie Mercury of Queen.[1] With his mane of long blond hair and powerful, bare-chested appearance, Plant helped to create the "god of rock and roll" or "rock god" archetype. Although Led Zeppelin dissolved in 1980, Plant occasionally collaborated with Jimmy Page on various projects in later years, including forming a short-lived supergroup with Page and Jeff Beck in 1984, called the Honeydrippers. They released an album called The Honeydrippers: Volume One, and the band had a No. 3 hit with a remake of Phil Phillips' tune "Sea of Love", plus a follow-up hit with a cover of Roy Brown's "Rockin' at Midnight".

A powerful and wide vocal range (particularly evident in his high-registered vocals) has given Plant a successful singing career spanning more than 50 years. In 2008, Rolling Stone editors ranked him number 15 on their list of the 100 best singers of all time.[2] In 2011, Rolling Stone readers ranked Plant the greatest of all lead singers.[3] In 2006, Hit Parader magazine named Plant the "Greatest Metal Vocalist of All Time".[4] In 2009, Plant was voted "the greatest voice in rock" in a poll conducted by Planet Rock.[5][6]

Everyone should know the name of Robert Plant , lead vocals of Led Zeppelin........What I find so fantastic is the string of awesome solo albums he has had , including this one ...." Now and Zen "....................................Plenty of competition and I will be reviewing other solo albums of his here , but this one is my favorite , as some many songs have subliminal meanings to them.....You figure it out and get back to me......
But his solo's show he is more than a " Let the juice run down my leg " lead singer from years ago.........The production of this album is top grade and I get lost in his voice and the play of the other band members .....give it a listen if you haven't already ....it's worth the time.....do a 4:20 and RELAX......

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Days_Grace

Three Days Grace is a Canadian rock band formed in Norwood, Ontario in 1997. The band's original iteration was called "Groundswell" and played in various local Norwood back-yard parties and area establishments from 1993 to 1996.

Based in Toronto, the band's original line-up consisted of guitarist and lead vocalist Adam Gontier, drummer and backing vocalist Neil Sanderson, and bassist Brad Walst. In 2003, Barry Stock was recruited as the band's lead guitarist, making them a four-member band. In 2013, Gontier left the band and was replaced by My Darkest Days' vocalist Matt Walst, who is also the younger brother of Brad Walst.

Currently signed to RCA Records, they have released six studio albums, each at three-year intervals: Three Days Grace in 2003, One-X in 2006, Life Starts Now in 2009, Transit of Venus in 2012, Human in 2015, and Outsider in 2018. The first three albums have been RIAA certified 2x platinum, 3x platinum, and platinum, respectively, in the United States. In Canada, they have been certified by Music Canada as platinum, triple platinum, and double platinum, respectively. Critical reception

The album was met with positive reviews from most music critics. Heather Phares of AllMusic gave the album a positive review, saying, "Although this debut is a little uneven, it's also promising. Three Days Grace are definitely one of the most accessible alt-metal bands of the 2000s; they just need to add some more distinctiveness to their sound."[4] In another positive review, Sputnikmusic said, "this is a very good debut CD from this band, there are very few flaws, and the music is all very good and it's great to listen to. Looking ahead, I see only good things for this band...although, with only one CD under their belts, it's too early to tell."[8] Dave Doray of IGN gave another positive review, saying, "almost every single song from the Three Days Grace track list is heavy and catchy, with chewy chunks of assurance and fury thrown in for added measure."[5]

I fell in love with this band from my first listening pleasure with this album back in 2003, as a trio......I also have the next 2 albums and listen to all three on my music site weekly....The second and third albums show tremendous growth, not only in the addition of more members . but in the lyrics and musical compositions of the following tracks....I am going to add their last 3 albums to my playlist of them and enjoy them further....If you haven't heard them , I advise you to enjoy as they are a band worthy of intense listening and enjoyment..............

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Floyd

Pink Floyd were an English rock band formed in London in 1965. Gaining an early following as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were distinguished for their extended compositions, sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows, and became a leading band of the progressive rock genre, cited by some as the greatest progressive rock band of all time.

Pink Floyd were founded by Syd Barrett (guitar, lead vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals), Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals) and Bob Klose (guitars). Under Barrett's leadership, they released two charting singles and the successful debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). Guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joined in December 1967; Barrett left in April 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. Waters became the primary lyricist and thematic leader, devising the concepts behind the band's peak of critical and commercial success with the albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979). The musical film based on The Wall, Pink Floyd – The Wall (1982), won two BAFTA Awards.

The Dark Side of the Moon (1973)

Main article: The Dark Side of the Moon
Original album artwork featuring an almost black cover with a triangular prism in the middle. A ray of white light enters the prism from the left and is refracted into colours as it comes out the right side.
The iconic artwork for The Dark Side of the Moon was designed by Hipgnosis and George Hardie.
Pink Floyd recorded The Dark Side of the Moon between May 1972 and January 1973 with EMI staff engineer Alan Parsons at Abbey Road. The title is an allusion to lunacy rather than astronomy.[106] The band had composed and refined the material while touring the UK, Japan, North America and Europe.[107] Producer Chris Thomas assisted Parsons.[108] Hipgnosis designed the packaging, which included George Hardie's iconic refracting prism design on the cover.[109] Thorgerson's cover features a beam of white light, representing unity, passing through a prism, which represents society. The refracted beam of coloured light symbolises unity diffracted, leaving an absence of unity.[110] Waters is the sole author of the lyrics.[111]

Pink Floyd performing on their early 1973 US tour, shortly before the release of The Dark Side of the Moon
Released in March 1973, the LP became an instant chart success in the UK and throughout Western Europe, earning an enthusiastic response from critics.[112] Each member of Pink Floyd except Wright boycotted the press release of The Dark Side of the Moon because a quadraphonic mix had not yet been completed, and they felt presenting the album through a poor-quality stereo PA system was insufficient.[113] Melody Maker's Roy Hollingworth described side one as "utterly confused ... [and] difficult to follow", but praised side two, writing: "The songs, the sounds ... [and] the rhythms were solid ... [the] saxophone hit the air, the band rocked and rolled".[114] Rolling Stone's Loyd Grossman described it as "a fine album with a textural and conceptual richness that not only invites, but demands involvement."[115]

Throughout March 1973, The Dark Side of the Moon featured as part of Pink Floyd's US tour.[116] The album is one of the most commercially successful rock albums of all time; a US number 1, it remained on the Billboard chart for more than fourteen years, selling more than 45 million copies worldwide.[117] In Britain, the album peaked at number 2, spending 364 weeks on the UK chart.[48] The Dark Side of the Moon is the world's third best-selling album, and the twenty-first best-selling album of all time in the US.[118] [119] The success of the album brought enormous wealth to the members of Pink Floyd. Waters and Wright bought large country houses while Mason became a collector of expensive cars.[120] Disenchanted with their US record company, Capitol Records, Pink Floyd and O'Rourke negotiated a new contract with Columbia Records, who gave them a reported advance of $1,000,000 (US$5,247,638 in 2020 dollars)[121]. In Europe, they continued to be represented by Harvest Records.[122]

Where to start ????????????????????..............Pink Floyd WAS and IS my most favorite band to listen to ,and The Dark Side of the Moon was my first experience in mind bending tunes that made you sit up and wonder how beautiful music can be........I will highlight more of their albums later on , but this album baptized me in the Pink Floyd religion of the Holy grail......

Hello all music lovers ............................I'm setting here tonight having a Moody Blues festival in honor of my best bud who is in the hospital right now.....

A-Fib and other various issues , but he is strong and will recover..................(fingers crossed).........................

I probably will start doing only one " pick of the day " daily as I have a lot of catching up to do on the GifsAnon thread and of course I HAVE to do my Old-Age thread to keep me sane.........

With this Music Anon thread I will be also posting thoughts and background of the music I am referencing here........There really needs to be an awakening of the sub-culture of music going on as it pertains to the time frame of when it was released......

The Moody Blues festival tonight is bringing back so many memories that I am having a melancholy meltdown and I am associating their music with the current events pertaining to what I was doing in my small town life existence then........

The Vietnam war was going on in 1969 when i got hooked on the Moody Blues....I believe they were the first recognized band back then to emphasize orchestral accompaniment as a backbone to their music.......Strings were a big part of the MB's and when we were taking as many trips as possible , it left a deep and long lasting slant on how we were feeling about the world as we knew it back then......

Most nights when our crowd of HEADS would get together it would be somewhere secluded with a bonfire going and music playing as we got as wasted as possible......No cellphones......no internet.......but a lot of communication and thoughts shared.....some good thoughts ....some bad....and some just idiotic, but we laughed, talked and had one whale of a good time....The ladies were always in abundance so there was that avenue we could tread, down . but whatever path we took it was always in HARMONY with each other ....Didn't matter whether it was a gathering of 10 or 30. we ALWAYS got along.....those friendships have endured the test of time and , for me , music has been the glue to bind all my memories together for recall when need to keep from going insane.....

Sorry for the soapbox manifesto but I really hope some of you that are reading through this thread daily will listen to the music that I highlight .....

The music of my lifetime will go down one day in the same zeal and love as the classical works of the past genius'...

Peace out.............

Traffic (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Traffic were an English rock band, formed in Birmingham,[1] in April 1967 by Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason.[2] They began as a psychedelic rock group and diversified their sound through the use of instruments such as keyboards like the Mellotron and harpsichord, sitar, and various reed instruments, and by incorporating jazz and improvisational techniques in their music.[2]
Initially, they released three non-album singles, including "Paper Sun", "Hole in My Shoe", and "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush"[1] in early and mid 1967, their first full album Mr. Fantasy was released in December of that year, and while it was never released as a single, the track "Dear Mr. Fantasy" from the album became a signature song for the band. Dave Mason quit the band shortly after the release of the first album. He rejoined briefly during the recording sessions for the band's self-titled second album, but was in and out of the group at various times over the next several years. The three-piece Traffic (with Mason appearing in limited capacity) released one more album, 1969's Last Exit, which contained only one side of new studio material. They disbanded in 1969 when Winwood co-founded the short-lived supergroup Blind Faith, with Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Ric Grech then reunited in 1970 to release the album John Barleycorn Must Die, their highest charting album in the U.S. In 1971, the band reshuffled the lineup for the album The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, with Capaldi moving to secondary percussionist and backing vocalist as the band added drummer Jim Gordon, percussionist Rebop Kwaku Baah, and bassist Ric Grech to the official line-up.
Traffic were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

When the Eagle Flies

When the Eagle Flies is the seventh studio album released by English rock band Traffic, in 1974. The album featured Jim Capaldi, Steve Winwood and Chris Wood, with Rosko Gee on bass guitar. Percussionist Rebop Kwaku Baah was fired prior to the album's completion, but two tracks feature his playing. Winwood plays a broader variety of keyboard instruments than most previous Traffic albums, adding Moog to their repertoire. This was the last Traffic album for 20 years, when Winwood and Capaldi reunited for Far from Home in 1994.
When the Eagle Flies was the band's fourth consecutive studio album to reach the American Top Ten[1] and have gold album status. It was far less successful in the United Kingdom, where it entered the charts at number 31 only to drop off the following week.[2] Traffic toured to support the release, but they disbanded in the middle of the tour in 1974.

For those of you not familiar with this band , you are in for a treat if you listen to this album with a buzz on .....Stevie Winwood is an icon in rock and roll and has been called the most soulful white singer ever by numerous prestigious members of the industry.....His keyboard skills are vastly underrated in my opinion....Traffic at this point in time was as tight as a band could be with the songs " Dream Gerrard and Graveyard People " being my fav's....
Winwood went on to form Blind Faith with members from Cream , but this work and ""Low Spark of High Heeled Boys "" being my first choice of their music....

George Michael

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Michael (born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou; 25 June 1963 – 25 December 2016) was an English singer, songwriter and record producer. Known as a leading creative force in music production, songwriting, vocal performance and visual presentation,[2][3][4][5][6] he is regarded as one of the greatest artists of all time[7][8] and an icon of popular culture.[9]

Michael rose to fame as a member of the music duo Wham! and later embarked on a solo career. Born in East Finchley, Michael formed the duo Wham! with Andrew Ridgeley in 1981. The band's first two albums, Fantastic (1983) and Make It Big (1984), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. Their hit singles included "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Last Christmas". Certifying themselves as a global act, Wham!'s tour of China in April 1985 was the first visit to China by a Western popular music act, and generated worldwide media coverage.[10]

Michael's first solo single, "Careless Whisper", reached number one in over 20 countries, including the UK and US.[11][12] Before embarking on the production of his first solo album, Michael went on to release two more number-one singles, “A Different Corner” and “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)”. Michael’s debut solo album, Faith, was released in 1987, topping the UK Albums Chart and staying at number one on the Billboard 200 for 12 weeks. The album sold 25 million copies worldwide and remains one of the best selling albums of all time. Four singles from the album—"Faith", "Father Figure", "One More Try", and "Monkey"—reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Michael became the best-selling music artist of 1988 and Faith was awarded Album of the Year at the 1989 Grammy Awards. Michael released his second solo album Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 in 1990. The album was a UK number-one and included the Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "Praying for Time", and the worldwide hit "Freedom! '90".[13] A duet with singer Elton John in 1991, "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", was also a transatlantic number one. Michael went on to release two multimillion-selling albums, Older (1996) and Patience (2004).

I never have been the type of music lover to let an artist's personal life dissuade me from acknowledging their musical ability and i won't start with George Michael..................His personal life has been documented and recorded....For me, his voice is one of the top 5 in my history of listening to male singers and their genius.....His range is beyond compare.....If you need any proof then just listen to this album.....The dynamics of the songs , along with the background singers only aid to the beauty of this man's skills......The numerous times I have listened to this album only reinforce's the thought that he was one of the greatest male singers of all time....Do away with the judicial rendering of his personal life and let his merits as a singer stand on it's own and I think you will agree with me that he deserves to be held in high esteem on his vocal ability......
