I'm glad that walk-ons can also benefit from NIL. Might be a good way to add players even after scholarships are filled up. Just over compensate on NIL offers. I wonder which school will be the first one to sign a 4/5 ⭐ player on a walk-on spot with big NIL money.
That is crazy but sounds plausible. Let's maybe start the experiment with three stars (or 2/1 stars in mid-majors.)

Is this like a bad joke? Anybody know how much he is getting? I feel like Sheets & Giggles stole the thunder of Gatorade (or the dispenser maker).
Walk ons know what they sign up for. They know they’re never gonna play. Now they get an out of nowhere benefit that they didn’t have to do anything extra for. That’s not a bad joke, that’s karma (the good kind).

NIL question- If a local business wanted to request a player for an autograph session, how would one go about doing that? I know of a business wanting to promote some of the team but ownership has struck out in their efforts to reach out.

I'd tell them to get in touch with the proprietor of Ryno's Collectibles in Mahomet. He's a great guy and I've gotten tons of current players autographs from his events

I am not sure how autograph sessions are set up, but I know that it can be done. On our way home from my daughters' USAG State Meet in Iowa last weekend, we stopped at the Corral Ridge Mall. The Murray twins and their father (former Iowa player) were signing autographs in the Scheels. When we pulled up there were fans lined up outside the store. The line zig zagged front to back and the throughout the store. I am not sure how much the Murrays made off the event, but I can tell you there was definitely a large number of Idiots Out Wandering Around!

Do people not understand that saying NIL will pay them instead of scholarship = a 50k per year (or whatever the cost of tuition and fees is) paycut?

Why in the world would a 4-5 star player WITH OFFERS FROM EVERYWHERE go somewhere and make 450k in NIL after school costs, when they could make 500k if they got a scholarship to cover school costs.

Looks like something wasn't clear in my question. Let's assume 5 schools offer a kid 450-500k along with scholarship. But a 6th school which is equally elite offers 750k without scholarship. Why would you choose the other 5 schools? Is being on a scholarship really that prestigious?

I agree that if this ever happens, it'll be a rare thing, but it's not an impossible scenario, right?

That would be more useful in a big football school that face worse numbers crunch with scholarships because players who don’t play as freshmen could still become contributors with development. Realistically if players don’t make the 2-deep as freshmen it’s unlikely they become major contributors for basketball (yes I’m aware there are always exceptions). I don’t think being the 14th or 15th man is overly appealing and as others have said you already have to make up for the lack of scholarship.

It would probably never happen, but it seems feasible.

Are there any other non-tuition privileges in the program that the scholarship grants that a walk-on spot doesn't? Somebody probably answered already but LAD on the recruiting thread has broken my will to scroll back on this thread.
