RIP Bob Love

Smooth and slender Bob Love.

Crafty one-on-one master Chet Walker.

Tough-as-nails Jerry Sloan.

The feverishly driven Norm Van Lier.

The hub of the Offense – Tom Boerwinkle.

These guys were something. The first really good group of Bulls players as a franchise.

They played like a well-run machine on both ends of the floor. Offense was run from the high-post... all five guys defended like maniacs and opponents hated to play the Bulls because they played D like no one else.

They damn near knocked off some highly-talented Laker teams in the playoffs and scared the hell out of them. Had some epic battles with the Bucks when they had Jabbar and Oscar Robertson and Bob Dandridge. Had old Chicago Stadium packed to the rafters and shaking from the foundation. Set the table for the highly-talented Bulls teams that would follow later on.

These Bulls got every ounce of talent out of them as God gave them.

Commitment... passion... energy... hard work. Made Chicago proud. Will never see Defense in the NBA like that again.

Edey and Dalton Knecht are good and TSJ can't get off the bench.

I went to a few games while he was playing (more when "his heirness" was there.) Bob Love was my favorite bull. Never was interviewed because he stuttered, but played so hard on the floor! One game I went to, he must have had SIX three point plays from shots along the baseline, before they had three point shots!

I think the bulls discovered him running an elevator in Seattle after his retirement, brought him back to Chicago, got him speech lessons and ultimately promoted him to community ambassador. Well, well loved... but also a kind, classy move by the Bulls.

On my HS friends text chain, one guy was telling us that about 3 years ago he was in a suite for a game. In his role as ambassador, Bob Love came in and none of the young bucks knew who he was. Friend said it was a little sad, but he asked for Love’s autograph, which he seemed to appreciate.

I just can't believe the wolves traded for Divincenzo and buried their two NBA ready rookies.
There were complicated big-picture salary cap related reasons why that deal made a lot of sense for them even though it meant giving up KAT.

The crazy thing is the way they keep grinding away with only 8 guys. I don't know if TSJ will be the beneficiary, but that's not sustainable.

I met Bob when he was inducted into the Small College basketball Hall Of Fame in 2017. Great guy, very humbl,e & fun to talk to.

One small correction. There was one instance when Love was interviewed after a game by Jack Brickhouse (when he was doing Bulls TV many moons ago).

I don't know how or why they got Love to do this as he looked very uncomfortable and could not communicate much. It was tough to watch. But I do give Love credit for having the courage to do this even though the Bulls TV people should have had much better sense to not put him through that.

One line that Brickhouse used was something like, "Well, it's not how you say it, but what you say"... or something cringe-worthy like that. This did nothing to help the situation or put Love at ease.

Brickhouse was the big shot at WGN Sports and got to do other sports besides baseball. But he was not a great football or basketball announcer. He even did some games from Chicago soccer teams back then but he was not good at that either. He should have stuck to North Side baseball only as he was also not much of a Sox fan even though they had him also doing Sox games. So my guess is that someone pressured Love to do the interview due to Brickhouse' perceived status at the time.

But as for Love... he made things look effortless out there. And he usually led the Bulls in scoring every night.

It was great that he later developed an ability to communicate much better in the way he did.

Reinsdorff owns the Whitesox and Bulls. My goodness it shows. Bulls roster is baddddd. I'll take TSjr. playing with Ayo all day and on Sundays. KAT goes to Knicks for a scrub. Why, didn't bulls make that deal. I have to turn this off, painful.

They really just sent a 1st rounder to the G league.... why even draft him?
That's a viewpoint of a decade ago. 1st rounders play in the G-League all the time now, it's a very strongly integrated part of the player development process, which the league wants and intends for it to be. It's a way to get guys on-demand game time within a franchise's "system". And these aren't permanent assignments, all the affiliates are local-ish, you just send them there for the day to play a game and then they come back to the NBA team.

Now, a big part of this push is because most 1st rounders are 19 year olds now, so it is a little different with TSJ. But the heuristic of "our first rounder is in the G-league he must be a total bust" is outdated thinking.

Well i’m in my 40s now. So that makes sense with the “old way of thinking” lol
