Wouldn't surprised me if what Boston gave Philly was what they had offered to the Bucks for Giannis, but Bucks probably wanted more players from Boston alongside Jaylen Brown.

If it were VJ instead of George, then I think it would’ve made a lot more sense.

But now it’s a hideous trade.

Did they HAVE to get rid of Brown? If the offers are that underwhelming, then you don’t need to move him.

The more I read about the whole Jaylen Brown thing, it's obvious to me that this is all a really interesting litmus test for the application of advanced metrics.

According to Boston and detractors, the metrics do not like Jaylen Brown.

He is an inefficient, volume scorer who takes bad shots, turns the ball over, and doesn't do enough of thr other helpful things like rebound and generate turnovers. Analytics say that the rest of the deep Boston roster, not Brown, gets the credit for keeping things going with Tatum out. Some have pointed out that Boston's record over the last 4 years in games that Brown has not played is an absurd 47-10 (which paces out to 68 wins over an 82 game season). People have also pointed out on/off splits showing the Celtics doing better when Brown is on the bench. They outscored opponents by 5.7 points per 100 possessions with him on the court, and by 9.4 points per 100 with him on the bench. Of course there are other ways to interpret this data, and I'm not convinced the analytics are as bad for Brown as the Celtics seem to now be suggesting. He was #11 in PER, #21 in Box Plus/Minus, #21 in VORP, #32 in Win Shares. So a lot of metrics do like him (though do suggest he was a bit overrated). But it'll be interesting to see if the theories about his impact on the Celtics' success hold.

Obviously, Brown has had a ton of success in Boston so it's kinda shocking the Celtics are willing to take a massive bet on the analytics being right. Why fix what's not broke? Most NBA front offices would look at the analytics, maybe agree with the analytics, but then still not make this move because if it backfires you look terrible.

I absolutely would not take this risk if I was the Celtics, but honestly hats off to Stevens for going for it. It's going to be a really interesting test that tells us a lot about whether analytics is using the right models and inputs to determine player value.

I really don’t think the Brown trade was that bad, and I feel sorry for Brown. Do people really think Embid is going to stay healthy enough to win more than one playoff series? As for the trade, Boston was ready to move on from big contract that was only going to get bigger. Don’t love George, but he’s still a good player and gives them much more financial flexibility. And they picked up some trade assets.

We still think getting TSJ minutes is gonna be a priority if the T-Wolves land Lebron?

I really have to wonder what this all looks like from the Ayo camp. What was communicated to him about his role next year? From looking like starting in the backcourt alongside Ant, to maybe starting at the 3, to now a pursuit of Lebron that would almost certainly push him to the bench, I have to imagine this wasn't what he had in mind right?

You just have to read the whole tweet...no mention of either of them on 'LeBron's Dream Team'

You'd think with that lineup, LeBron would be primarily playing as a 4. (McDaniels is their best perimeter defender. Doesn't make sense to play him inside.) At this point in LBJ's career, that probably the best spot for him defensively.

Obviously, Ayo is playing a lot regardless of who they bring in. They didn't give him 20 million a year to watch.

TJ is going to have to keep proving himself, like Ayo did. That's life in the NBA. Until you start getting paid like a "DUDE", you are always going to be treated like "just another dude".

Well yeah, but to do that you need opportunities.
The downside of being a first round pick is you have no leverage over your role. He has played well when opportunities have come. That's really all you can do. Eventually he will be able to choose a better situation for his career.

He is in a better spot going into this season than he was last year. I don't think he will taking any detours in the G-League, but there is competition on the roster for minutes. I tend to believe he earned some trust in the playoffs from Finch, but he does tend to keep his rotations tight.

Even if the LeBron thing happens, you also have to take into account that he is entering his 24th season. If they get 50-55 games and 25-30 mpg out of him, that's about as good as one could reasonably expect. If LeBron still wants to be the top option somewhere, Minnesota won't be where he signs. He wants to win, but I think he also understands he needs to take care of his body during the season to be healthy enough in May to be in his best form at that time.

There will still be opportunities.
