F! Myron Medcalf, what a hatchet-job team summary of Illinois on ESPN's "every team explained" https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/page/FirstLookField-39723129/march-madness-2024-every-team-mens-ncaa-tournament-bracket-explained Dude clearly has an ax to grind re: TSJ's alleged assault. Folks want a basketball summary not a tabloid.
Won't dignify it with a click, but throw this clown in the car full of clowns including Parrish. No talent hacks.

Our opponents' coaches are thinking, "damnit, of course we get the team with the most electric take-it-to-the-basket player in the tournament and three different guys who can go for 30-burgers!"

This matchup thing works both ways. I think this year's Illini are well-equipped to survive and advance through a variety of roadblocks.

Initial thoughts I have on the brackets:

-3 of last year's Final 4 in the East. Also all top 4 seeds in the East won their conference tournament this year.
-Lol at Alabama and Auburn getting shipped out to Spokane for the first 2 rounds. Feel bad for Dayton getting sent to a site in Salt Lake City with 3 teams from the western part of the country.
-Will be interesting to see what kind of run Arizona can make with the road they would have prior to the Final 4. Early rounds in Salt Lake City and West regional in L.A.. I'm sure they'd love to make it to the Final 4 with it being at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

-Pittsburgh: Andrew Catalon, Steve Lappas, Evan Washburn
-Salt Lake City: Brad Nessler, Brendan Haywood, Dana Jacobson
-Brooklyn: Ian Eagle, Bill Raftery, Grant Hill, Tracy Wolfson
-Memphis: Spero Dedes, Jim Spanarkel, Jon Rothstein

Champions of the Big East, Big 12 and Big 10. We’re in the toughest bracket. Perhaps the most overtly biased tourney by the selection committee yet. And of course North Carolina has the easiest path. Puke.

University of Utah is the host actually
I guess maybe it's because Kansas is the 4 seed there, but they only played each other once during the regular season, so technically they could have been there (at a disadvantage regionally to Kansas)

I want to us win this thing as much as the next person, but can we stop whining about the teams in our region.
If you want to be an elite blue blood program you find a way to win and don’t make excuses.

Exactly. Every team complains and th funny thing is that given the upsets that happen, all of the fortune telling never comes to pass.

This is slightly dramatic.

From a matchup perspective, the draw is favorable for Illinois. 2 very winnable games in Omaha, where there should be plenty of orange and blue. Iowa State is good, but every 2 seed generally is, and upsets happen all the time in first two rounds. I think the path to elite 8 run is there. After that, it's March, anything can happen.

Buckle up!

Slightly dramatic? Every single analyst from CBS to ESPN is saying the East bracket is unevenly/unfairly drawn, especially for Connecticut, the #1 overall seed.

Favorable? How about just not extremely unfavorable?

Loyola was top 10 on KenPom and an 8 seed.

Houston was top 5 on KenPom and a 5 seed.

The actual committee thought BYU was the 17th best team, which equates to the best 5 seed. And that's who we likely get to face in the 2nd round, as a 3 seed.
BYU is just another Iowa. We can beat them
