NCAA Tournament Canceled

#27
I'm going to spend the weekend scouring YouTube for 2005 Illini games. I may have to watch the Arizona game 2 or 3 times. Probably skip the Final though...

I really want to be irrational, but I get it.

This was inevitable, and given the situation, the correct choice. Overall, I think people are being a bit overzealous and overly cautious, given the nature of the disease; however, since all the other American sports leagues have cancelled/suspended play, the NCAA had to follow suit. If any transmission of the disease occurred to participants/attendees of the tournament, the fallout would have been tremendous. The NCAA already has a reputation of caring about money more than the well-being of student-athletes, and that reputation would have been multiplied tenfold had they held the tournament this year.

I hate this as a fan, I hate it for the players, coaches, and staff, but it's the right thing to do. Life can and will go on without sports for a month or so. I'm not sure how, but I'll be trying to figure that out over the weekend. Something tells me that my "honey-do" list is going to get dusted off.
First thought out of my wife's mouth!
Careful how you present this, guys.

So we are saying everyone should stay home. There are people that go to worksites with thousands of employees every day. We are going to completely shut the country down for months. I think that is too much. 36750 people die in auto accidents in the USA in 2018. Out of abundance of caution, we should not drive.

If this virus infects the same amount of people as the flu does, there will be 1.1 million deaths. Kind of silly to compare to auto deaths. This is done to avoid that situation occurring.

There is also no telling how many player may have already contracted the virus. As player become aware of who has been affected, it could really change to look of some rosters. The whole exercise could have just devolved from "which team was best prepared for March" to "which team got infected the least."

so all the basketball players are going to avoid contact with 9 other healthy people and probably run across hundreds each day instead. what's your logic here?

That's the point I'm making. It's logistically nearly impossible to ensure that the players, coaches, staff, managers, announcers, etc. aren't getting infected "in the world" and then infecting each other, then going home to infect more people.

So happy we held on against Iowa. Can’t imagine the feeling if that one would of got away from us and then the season got cancelled. Also glad the seniors got to be recognized at home their last game. It’s a bummer no doubt but we go into this off season with more reason for feeling good about the direction of the program than we have had in a long time!

Like have a ton of people in the SFC to recognize them.....
😆. Not exactly....

was thinking some sort of awesome video about the season,

maybe hold a closed but livestreamed ceremony in the very near term where they give awards/recognition to the players and coaching staff

or maybe some sort of physical item recognizing this group at SFC

Kind of wish, at least for the players, partially for us fans.....that we could have at least had selecftion sunday before this announcement so the guys could see their team flash on that screen and get to celebrate a tad.
