You guys are wild 😂 The Postgame thread shouldn’t open for 24 hours after a loss.

Get Tomi back, we’ll be fine. B10 title is gone but we can still beat anybody in the country and get hot in March
Ummmm…..sorry but Tomi may not be right the rest of this season. Probably lost a lot of weight, isn’t practicing and will take time to get stamina back. I like your optimism though!

Humrichous plays so much because of the money he is making... If you are the big $$ donor(s) who wrote big $$ checks (as in several hundreds of thousands) because Brad told you "We need this guy to compete for titles" and then he sits for 2/3rds of the game, will you be writing checks next year when Brad tells you "We need this guy to compete for titles"? If it was me I would put winning above all else, but there's a reason Brad doesn't come to me for money (I don't have any). Not saying it's right, but it's the reason
This is it

I think it’s important to put this team into perspective compared to last year:

Last Year: 16-5 Overall / 7-3 Big 10 / 3-4 Q1 Games

This Year: 14-7 Overall / 6-5 Big 10 / 4-6 Q1 Games

We’re not THAT far off from last year. Yes the vibes were definitely better, but this team has so much more up and down. Hopefully we can go on a little run and get good vibes for March 🤞
Except this year we are in free fall and moving hard in the wrong direction.... and the player we need the most to try to get right is out indefinitely with mono. I feel way better about last year's team at this point even with TSJ out.

Nova was his second best offer … They’re mid at best …
How do you think the team would have looked if we had gotten Maddox? I got the impression we really wanted him and he isn’t necessarily lighting it up at Xavier so wondering how different the philosophy for the team would have been.

Welcome to the roller coaster!!!

I'm still backing this team and excited for March! Why? Because they play hard and they care, just struggling to make winning plays right now. But we've still got a month to figure it out.
The last time I was on a roller coaster like this one, they shut it down for a major overhaul.

Bingo. People underestimated everything that he does for us on both ends. The offense ran through him. He's a great passer out of the post, he'd get you the easy bucket, he drew doubles ......

He is irreplaceable and it would be nice if he got back this year before it totally gets away.

We’ve just not shown the toughness to go on a “run,” which fundamentally requires consistency, focus and mental toughness. :/

I'm not sure i understand what you are saying? If we showed consistency and focus, we would already be on a run lol.

The whole point of "going on a run" is taking a talented team, coaching staff pushing the right buttons, finding that consistency and focus, and we start rolling.

This team can 100% do that.

Maybe I just don’t know what NIL deals are really like, but it seems extremely wild to me for a coach like BU to make pt promises to a DIII guy who is also getting paid a ton of money and letting that affect winning. Mad world.

I don’t think it’s the money that is influencing playing time. Underwood clearly thinks that Ben’s floor spacing is essential. He’s bought hook line and sinker into the 3 point math game. He believes that is the way you win,

And he’s right in that when it’s cooking like vs Oregon, that is our highest upside. But the problem is 3 pt shooting is so variant you can’t depend on that system to win night in and night out.

We’ve traded competitive tough junk yard dogs like Harris, Hansberry, Rodgers for shooters. Unfortunately they can’t shoot good each night

Geez

Is it possible that both a coach who vetted a player for NIL and the donor or donors who footed the bill also want to irrationally believe in their investment. It's not easy to cut losses for anybody in this picture.

I think Brad is stubborn and refuses to shake up the staff …

No secret I’ve been calling for changes for a couple years …

Hamer stinks … Tyler should’ve got his coaching start elsewhere … You don’t get to start your coaching career at Illinois … Not how it works … Gotta prove it …

Brad sticking with Tyler and giving him and Hamer responsibility has been part of the reason we’ve lost good assistants to other jobs …
Nepotism at its finest. Rarely works.

Nobody will listen bc I’m not an “insider” but enough! Brad has brought a WINNING program here. Ben has been a miss so far. He might turn it around or he might not. Brad took an educated guess at him. All you can do in this era. These “know it all’s” seem to know which guy will fit and which one won’t. Then why aren’t they coaching at a high level D-1 program? It’s a crap shoot at this point with strategic guesses. Flat out. This teams ceiling is crazy. It might flame out(odds say it will) but it might make a run. Jesus Christ, let Brad figure it out and determine if it was a good gamble or not!?
Humrichous is not turning it around. He's add 20 games to turn it around. At least with White and Riley, you see more consistent flashes of good play. You barely see it with Humrichous. Do you really expect him to turn it around in the next few weeks? He is who he is...a poor major conference player who should be playing at a mid major

For a team that is supposedly full of shooters, we're not very good at making shots.
With the exception of a few games, this is absolutely correct. To advance in the tournament the 3 point shooting must improve and be markedly more consistent.

Let’s face it - Underwood’s coaching tonight was brutal. Not having GibbsLawhorn in the game at the end is horrendous ! One would think that a coach that makes 5 million $$$ would make better decisions

I'm no PJ Carlesimo, but I think I understand basketball. Can someone explain to me what our offense is. We score a lot of points, but all I see is 4 guys standing around the 3 pt line and 1 guy inside. The guy will the ball dribbles around a bit while the other 3 on the perimeter stand perfectly still. I think the defense can't see them if they don't move. Then we either take a contested 3 or swing it around the perimeter until someone decides to shoot a 3. Maybe every once in a while someone will drive to the hoop.

Underwood seems to be convinced, just take a lot of 3s, it doesn't matter if you don't make them. If you get enough shots up, you'll score. Well for decades there was another way. You ran an offense. Players were constantly moving, they were setting screens the were working to get open looks from all 3 levels. Remember how many open shots from 6 ft in James Augustine used to get from actually running an offense? That was great.

He was awful tonight - I think everyone saw that
I totally agree! He needs to be coached during the game and the bench has a very effective way of teaching a player what they are or are not going to tolerate and the expectations. Playing time and taking it away is the most effective way of altering a players Performance!

I also wonder how much brad's own demand for money for a player he wants and how much individual say a high value donor has when they make a nil donation for said player means.

As in, brad wants ben h, donor says he'll pay x, who has the say in how much he plays? Both want the investment to work but who pulls the plug if it doesn't?

Because you can't piss off donors and coaches want their own recommendations to work.
