I’m just glad he set us all straight. Here I sat thinking Trent and DW had never lost a game in their Illinois careers. My comment was about mindset, if you didn't catch that.

Stared down the defender and called him a F$cking b!tch right in front if the ref. Not smartI would love to see Tomi and Z do some hi low action. Any word on what Z said to get the technical? Give LaMarcus credit on that last shot. At the end of the game I thought Z and LaMarcus almost got into it.
Just awful
The irony of this post is that soooo many fans clamor to want to win games when we play bad to prove a point too.
Do you really expect that he'd have been benched all game for two bad practices? Against a ranked conference opponent? After having 20 points in his last game?HE STARTED HIM AFTER SAYING HE HAD 2 BAD PRACTICES……THATS ON THE COACH!
What is it that you don’t understand
Was Z t'd-up for hanging on the rim or for his vocal actions?Pretty apparent Z is marked by the Big Ten officials so he has to be really careful and not let emotions get the better of him the rest of the season, especially in Big Ten play. Is it justified? No, not in my opinion. These are college kids, it can be handled in a better manner than Ting up a specific guy at a crucial moment in the game for demonstrating towards an opposing player when this stuff goes on all the time and nothing happens.
So, here's where I'm going to balk at your comments(which are well thought out unlike others). If we're going to cut the wins vs OSU and Tennessee off at the knees because of how they looked, how can we not elevate Nebraska based on how they looked by absolutely beating TF out of Wisconsin(30 point win, shooting 54%), then coming into our house and beating us shooting 46% from three? How good those wins are...whether they are actually "quad 1" remains to be seen. Ohio State just barely fended off a mediocre West Virginia team in OT at home. Tennessee has not looked good at all since their upset of Houston.
As for "what do (I) expect," I expect our top-10-nationally-paid coach to coach like he's a top-10-nationally-paid-coach. For example, rather than moaning during postgame interviews about how bad practices were during the week, I expect Brad to have done something about how those practices were going in real time. When a player is absolutely destroying us, I expect Brad to adjust our defensive scheme rather than wait until we're in a big hole. And I expect Brad to utilize all of our players' strengths on offense rather than spouting post-game head scratchers like, "Going into the low post was a waste of time." And I expect him to accept the responsibility for a loss like this onto his own shoulders rather than trashing players in his postgame interviews.
9 layups in the second half for the Huskers - no need to over analyze this loss.I already posted it, but after sleeping on it, I feel like this needs to be posted again.

Ok, let's attack this in a different way because the discussion is coming across as an attack on Mirk, which is my fault. My use of adjectives has been poor, so let's back up.Yeah, that's a completely different post than:
defending outside the paint. His lateral quickness is a problem, as is his explosiveness. He's most effective on the perimeter and is damn hard to stop.....when hitting the three.
Critiquing his bad game is not lazy with regard to a "technical game" standpoint.
Trying to tell us that he most effective on the perimeter, while being slow and clumsy, with a lateral quickness problem is what I was referring to.
His statistics don't even remotely tell us that. And logic would dictate that if you are slow, clumsy, and lack lateral quickness...you are not going to be most effective on the perimeter.
Because that's not what the technical was forWhen someone is under you contesting your dunk you can hang on the rim to prevent injury. Why are we not playing by the rules? Why did coach not raise a fit??
It seemed many people needed that reminder. Or did “this is the type of game Trent would have never allowed us to lose” mean something else? People used to get mad at Trent too after losses.I’m just glad he set us all straight. Here I sat thinking Trent and DW had never lost a game in their Illinois careers.
No, no it’s on the young kids that are on campus for the first year ever. Possibly America for all I know. Coach has to throw them under the bus. Has to. Its not him. He certainly doesn’t need to change. /sAfter every loss, Coach takes responsibility, says he didn't have them ready to play. So coach needs to change that. Stop using the word "elite" and get their attention to play a full 40 minutes and not allow 32 points to one guy again and again. Take the ball to the rim.

Here is the video, not sure if it was posted earlier?
Nobody’s punishing anybody … Facts are this … 1 second weekend since 2017 …
That’s unacceptable at elite level programs … And hey if we wanna be a good program, maybe 1 second weekend since 2017 is acceptable …
Maybe losing to Nebraska at home is acceptable for good teams …
I don’t wanna be f’ing good … I want to be ELITE … And both of those things are UNACCEPTABLE in ELITE programs …
I said this during the OSU game that we don’t take advantage of mismatches in the paint and make post entries. You have to definitely use your size advantage as much as possible.Tomi would flash open in the high post against the zone but the KJ skill of getting him the ball with proper timing is missing on this year's team.
ps - I hope pru survived this game.
If he’s not his sure playing himself into one.I've said the same thing about Keaton being better than Will was at this stage of the season, only to be ridiculed. Not sure he's lottery pick level yet, but he is something else.
Then BU should have taken his own advice, from his quote of Bob Knight, and sat his !!! on the bench to start the game and started Ben or Jake. That also makes a point, probably more so than talking about it after the game in which you just started him.Do you really expect that he'd have been benched all game for two bad practices? Against a ranked conference opponent? After having 20 points in his last game?
The point of bringing up bad practices is to teach the idea that bad practices lead to bad games, so you better bring it in practice.
His back is to the camera so how can you see him screaming and I don’t see him coming at anybody. So our perspectives are different and we’ll just leave it at that. Go check highlights of what the Fab 4 did on a regular basis back in the day, this pales in comparison. Could have been handled better. Pull him aside and if he does it again then T him up. For the benefit of doubt, maybe that had already occurred and all the refs know it has. then yes the T is justified. Kinda like a warning ticket you get for speeding. But if you speed again soon afterwards you get a ticket.I really don't know why people are complaining about the T. He pretty clearly goes towards the Nebraska player and screams in his face. You cant do that in college ball.
You should perhaps watch other teams play basketball. I assure you it is something nearly every team struggles with.I think there are some serious questions that the coaching staff has never answered about several Illini teams.
1. Why does it seem that Illini teams over the years have games they just are not ready to play, they have no emotion?
2. Why do these all of these teams get off to slow starts?
3. Why does it seem they are never a good defensive team?
4. Why does it seem they never play 2 halves.
5. Why does it seem the coaches never seem to have a set play for game on the line time on defense or offense? [Teen. driving ball 60ft with 6 seconds left for a layup and not touched, wide open 3 yesterday, where was the pressure on ball?
6. The excuse that this team has had injuries and hasn't had practice time together is boloney. These guys with the exception of Wagler and Lee are SEMI-PRO players, They look like high school kids who have never played ball at times.
7. I am sure Brad's post-game he will just say Nebraska was a better team, I don't think so. I do think the Illini were outplayed, outhustled, outcoached.
Put the 5 best players on the floor and leave them there. Stok. Mirk setting on the bench?
play Big Z over Tommi if he isn't ready to play. Get mad, throw a chair across the floor ala Bobby Knight and wake this team and coaches up!
I heard Brad say he benched Mirkovic because his head was in Serbia. Hey Brad why don't you bench yourself? There are a lot of games I wonder where your head is, although I have a pretty good idea-where the sun don't shine!
Not directed at you or anyone else, just pointing out that he asked to come out which a few people on here didn't know at the time and assumed that Brad pulled him for no apparent reasonI guess that it was kind of inferred I blame Brad but I really don’t. There is only so much Brad can do, the players have to show up. I didn’t catch he asked to come out, I simply said it seemed like poor timing. If we want to talk about Brad, we could talk timeout management.
You’re damn right he’s sitting. Like Knight use to say “ !!! meet bench “. If he doesn’t get the message of what’s expected what it takes to play at a high level for the University of Illinois then he needs to find another place to play. If you want to compete for the B10 Championship and 2nd weekend then these guys better understand what it’s going to take. My bad Coach don’t cut it.So, two bad practices are on the coach? When is it on the player? If I'm coaching and the practices are sub par, you're not playing, but what's option 2? I'll tell you, it's Ben. Would that sit better with our fanbase? No, what don't you understand? We're not deep enough at ANY positional group to have these issues. Quote frankly, Tomi has been bad as well. The crummy post play isn't limited to one.

Tell you want, let's do this: Underwood is now in his 9th year at Illinois. Please list all the games where we upset, and I mean truly upset, a better team (especially on the road), let alone a much better team. I honestly cannot think of a single one.
In all of his years here, we have basically won most of the games we should win, lost most if not all of the games that we were expected to loss, but had many (too many) upset losses, and got embarrassed few times (too many).
Go ahead and list all of Underwood's "signature" wins (and compare with all of his "signature" losses). The closest thing we have to a signature win is beating Iowa State in the S16, and that was a 2-3 match up.
Again, I'm not saying Underwood is a terrible coach, but that is the problem. he's good enough (especially in recruiting, and winning just enough games) that you may never be able to fire him.
