Ohhh I get it!!! So exhibitions only matter when if fits your agenda!! Makes perfect sense!!

Well one of them happened 8+ years ago directly after inheriting a train wreck of a roster and one happened recently and that team went to an E8

Are you for real?

How bad is Nebraska resources actually? Do we know? I actually don't hate Fred, this isn't some anti Hoiberg point.

But I was alluding to the Fred Hoiberg Iowa State versus UAB*** - where Iowa State was a 3 seed - and got bounced out by a 13 seed in round 1. Tbh, probably much worse than the Loyola game.
Hoiberg made the same number of second weekends in 6 seasons at Iowa State as Brad has in 9 seasons here.

Hoiberg is working with a fraction of the resources and salary he would be working with here, and is outperforming us this season in spite of this. A loss to Georgia State with Nebraska resources isn't anywhere near as devastating as our number 1 seeded teem looking outclassed against Loyola Chicago with Illini resources.
In what world is Hoiberg outperforming Brad?

KenPom ratings for Illinois since 2021:

4
20
35
10
17
14 (this year)

Nebraska:

109
140
94
30
46
20

Brad’s *worst* years are on par with Hoiberg’s *best*.

I believe Josh erred after the 21-22 season. Brad completely mismanaged that team. I knew Brad was not “the Guy” after that season. We are simply a team that will get to the Round of 32 and lose. TSJ and Domask willed us to the second weekend. Brad in his initial presser stated that winning a Nattty is something that can happen here. Hmm, we haven’t sniffed a Natty and he has been out coached in many a game. I want a new direction. Michigan has passed us, we are not a Purdue’s level, MSU is better, Nebraska has a coach that will win, UCLA is better than us. Those 5 teams are better than us this year. We will be fighting with OSU, IU and USC for the 6th spot in the conference. We will never reach the S16 again under this system. We have a defensive stud riding pine while we fail to stop players who light us up in the first half.

nebraska has a coach that will what/?

Fans overestimate how talented their team is relative to the rest of the top teams. There are people, including Mike Carpenter on his podcast today, that say this team is top 10 in talent. This is by no means something anyone can confidently say. I think it’s unlikely.

People also say we are among the very top in NIL. This also seems unlikely to me. We have pulled out of recruiting several players because of money. We have money compared to most. But other teams have more and many others have a similar amount.

A sure fire way to make yourself miserable is to make unrealistic assumptions.

Nebby could be a Top 4 team in the Conference this year. They have the offense I want here. Lots of motion, quick ball movement and easy looks to the basket. In the grand scheme, Hoiberg’s ceiling should be our floor. He is getting players that fit his system. We are getting players that fits no system. If Hoiberg had the resources we have, they would be a conference contender every year. Fred can flat out coach. I cannot figure out what we are doing half the time.

It should have been good enough to beat EIU. They went 12-19 from the OVC. I was just replying to the guy who posted the Box. LOL

And Nebraska should’ve certainly been good enough to win the game the original comment referred to, but you miss this critical point

Who said Self and Kansas even took it seriously? Who says he wasn't messing with lineups to see what worked?

Yes I'm real. What's your next excuse?

Maybe this is just looking from a one sided perspective - but I feel like one of the issues with our fanbase is that, compared to other passionate fan bases, we never appear to be that crazy, vigorous, or... just have that "us against the world" mentality in terms of supporting OUR team against the opposition. But rather pessimistic and negative when we lose a game... which doesn't seem to back our team up, but rather throw them under the bus. I really can't imagine it's all too helpful. I believe TSJ described us too as one of the more "nervous" fan bases.

No, I didn't see it as an "attack" on Mirk. Your comment about lazy posters with nothing to offer with regards to the "technical" part of the game was the "attack".

What Mirk does well and not well is born out in his stats....or the technical part of the game if you will.

That's why I recommended you check those and recalibrate that take.

He had a 19 year old Euro freshman "how do you do" vs the B1G game. It won't be his last struggles.
I agree with you on that. I put him in the same point as Tomi and Z when it comes to our bigs defensively. If we are going to put bigs on the wings, the ability to move laterally and recover is absolutely paramount. The ability to not bite at a pump fake is paramount. Between the three of them, I don't think any of them move well. I just don't. I think that once ONE defender breaks down, even a little bit, the entire defense breaks down. You saw in in our ability to get to shooters, then when the adjustment was made to run guys off the three points line, it turned into a bit of a layup line. It was definitely a problem. IMO(PURELY IMO), we're slow, unathletic and can't make up for even one mistake defensively. Great defensive teams have the ability to read, react, recover and impact a play.

To be clear, I'm speaking for the bigs, not our guards. I really like Boswell and I really like Wagler.

Now, for those getting all worked up after yesterday's game, they weren't paying attention in the off-season. We knew that given the teams profile, we were going to score a lot, but we might have to win games 95-90. A couple of posters were concerned that we'd be Fran coached Iowa on steroids. These concerns are personnel driven and it goes back to July. It was made worse when we lost Ty. How many plus athletes do we have on the roster? Maybe Stojakovic? POSSIBLY Wagler? You don't see too many Final Four teams with this type of a team profile.

I think defense is going to be an issue all year long, but it's a recruiting/personnel issue....no need to go into the money issue until April.

Ive said it since year 2 of the tenure, but Brad isn't the answer. I watched the game again (don't do for your sanity). No out of bounds plays (as always), offense was more stagnant and 1 on 1 than I originally thought, defensive breakdowns almost every possession, and he never talks to his senior assistants (O.A. or Geoff) ever, just Tyler. What has he done, daddy?

I don’t agree with a majority of your post. And optic call outs to me never hit the mark because I fully understand I don’t know any of the context.

But… I do wish OA and Alexander were the two sitting next to Brad. I’m sure it’s a player/coach relationship thing where those two can better postion coach down the bench, but I agree sometimes I don’t love that look

Great post because what we saw yesterday is the type of offense Brad wants. All five guys who can shoot with a couple of bigs that can score and equally (or more) importantly be able to pass out of the post. That's what he envisioned last year and he double downed on it this year.

Who says we took the Eastern game seriously, maybe we lost on purpose like you claim Self did?

You skipped excuses altogether and went straight to pure fabrication of reality lol

No. I don't care about exhibition games.

I just find it funny when we lose one it's end of the world but when we win one then all of a sudden we are legit

Exactly. This is the team he wants. It’s why Morez wasn’t a priority. Or Dain Dainja.

But the big guys aren’t really in the post area that much. Def not down there to posting up to score and not really down there to pass either. They pass from the elbow though.

Say back in October you gave me this thread to read and blind guess our record, we've played 11 games, 6 power conference - I would've likely guessed 5-6, no more than 6-5.
