McShay has Spoon projected as a late 1st round pick to the Bengals. Noise around the DC aside (until Kane is promoted to the position) this will be an incredible pitch on the recruiting trail around the development at Illinois.

Crazy to think it Spoon would be our first 1st rounder since AJ Jenkins and Whitney* back in 2012.

it is, but we've just spent 15 years wandering around the college football desert, so its not that "crazy"

Any idea what Spoon's combine numbers will be?
just a guess but 8 ft tall, 12 foot wing span, 1000 inch vertical, 1 second 40, 100 yard broad jump.

He should run sub 4.4 which will make him a lot of money - he's got good height but his arm length and wingspan are just average, so he won't be the physical freak others are- but he's got the tape, cover skills and speed.

I think he's got a good chance of even moving higher on the board as analysts/teams get into their film prep before the draft. It's hard to be more impressive than he was - the knock will be the lack of real game changing WR's he's had to cover outside of the Michigan game

I love Chase Brown and appreciate everything he has done at Illinois. I don't always translate collegiate talent to the next level. What are some things he needs to improve on? I am sure some plays have been called back for penalties, depends on field position, poor QB play before this season but I was stunned by the lack of long homerun plays for Brown with this many touches.

676 rushing attempts + 58 receptions = 734 touches (hopefully more to come)

I was going to go with 50+ yard plays (only 1) but decided to go with 40+ yard plays and was astonished to find he doesn't have that many. He has a total of 4 plays with 40+ yard gains.

2018-2020 none

2021 80 yard TD run vs Charlotte

2022 49 yard TD run vs Wisconsin, 40 yard TD reception vs Minnesota, 43 yard reception vs Northwestern (up 34-3 and in game for yards)

the NFL "draft game" places so much emphasis on measurables . I don't know where he ranks with that
they also are now requiring rb's to be good pass blockers and pass receivers. I don't know if that can be improved with another year of college. Perhaps.
But when he's on the field for us, we need to utilize his strengths right now to help us win , so its hard to use his time on the field to develop NFL skills.

He can play pro ball. I just dont know if its here on Sundays , or in Canada , or here in the spring (the pay sucks tho in those two leagues)

I'm still getting my head around the idea of Sydney playing in the NFL while Chase is playing in college or Canada, etc. They are two of my favorite players of all time, but I've mostly thought about Chase when thinking of an NFL career. Playing RB is tough sledding.

Chase reminds me of David Montgomery on the bears. Gets through tights spaces and can make people miss in the hole but does not have the breakaway speed to take it to the house.

Chase is way faster than Montgomery. He does not have Montgomery’s leg drive however (Montgomery’s best asset). Brown is more of a poor man’s Travis Etienne.

Better comp for Chase would be Raheem Mostert. He's honestly probably best suited for a team that uses a zone running scheme.
