A lot of chatter on Stroud returning to Ohio State
He should be top 3 pick, how does this make sense? Not disputing what you're hearing, as I have no inside info, but to skip that for another year of college? NLI must be an insane number for him to consider this.

I don't care if they're paying him $10 million, he'd be making a mistake to go back.

Not least of which because his chances of going #1 overall next year would be hurt by being in the same draft class as Marvin Harrison Jr.

I know that a number of GMs don't care to trade with Division Rivals, but looking at a 2023 NFL Trade Value Chart, Detroit looks like the perfect trade partner. PFF has Detroit needing QB, and they have 2 first round picks.

The Bears #1 pick has a value of 3000

Detroit has the #6 pick value of 1600, #18 pick value of 900, #48 pick 420 (Pru) and then throw in a couple of late round draft picks to make the numbers mesh. I know that most GMs will not trade away that much draft capital from one draft (Unless you are Ditka at New Orleans), but unfortunately, this doesn't show the value of future year draft picks.

Those kinds of charts are useful when you're digging into the nitty gritty of later picks, but at #1 it's kinda useless since it's a question of what's there at the top.

The #1 pick last year wasn't much of a commodity. And what the Bears have isn't really to be thought of as "First Selection of the 2023 NFL Draft" as much as "the rights to Bryce Young on a rookie deal".

All of which is to say the Bears should be seeking more than that, and anyway the Lions believe they have their long term answer in Jared Goff who was sneakily outstanding this year.

It'll be Texans, Colts or Panthers, would be my bet. Perhaps Raiders or Jets.

My guess (and my hope) would be that good players on cost-controlled multi-year deals will be something Poles really covets in the trade return, as opposed to the picks-for-picks form these deals usually take.

Caleb Williams would be the #1 pick this year and next year
Yeah, I did think of that as well. Obviously QB's will always be a priority.

Not sure I'm 1000% sold on him as a pro though. A totally thrilling playmaker who you can't take your eyes off of, but he's so off-schedule, and how translatable has Lincoln Riley's offense proven to be?

The comp you can't avoid is Patrick Mahomes, which will certainly help.

Harrison though has to be the best WR prospect since Calvin Johnson. The surest of sure things.

"But what about his ability to come up and support in the run game, how can a guy built like that tackle on the edge?"

<rolls the tape on the hit of the year in college football against Indiana>
Physically, football can be a funny sport. A skinny guy like Spoon makes hits like that and pops back up to celebrate, but our previously mentioned brickhouse in Vontae Davis does the same thing and knocks himself out of the game (OSU in '07).

I know there are people on here who know much more about strength, especially training, than I; but I've met people that one might assume are the proverbial 90 pound weakling who actually possessed great strength. Spoon may be one of those people.

Just turned the Hula Bowl on - why doesn't Luke Ford have an Illini helmet?

Why? I thought he just "opted out"? What did he do to get thrown off the team?
I specifically asked that too but the only answer I got was he declared for the draft. Apparently it’s been kept quiet and the few who know aren’t talking. Which is completely fine by me. I have no desire to disparage Luke even IF (not saying he did) he screwed up. He was still an important part of our successes the last 2 years.

I am also in the camp “I don’t really care what happened”.

However, there is a big difference between “opted out” and “got dismissed”. Unless we hear from someone with more knowledge, I’d be weary of using the term “dismissed”; for Luke’s sake.

All that said, I am glad the Luke Ford saga is over. From not coming here in the first place, to the NCAA jobbing him with his eligibility when he transferred, to him playing like a 4th sting TE, to whatever happened over the last two weeks, it just never seemed like he lived to the hype. Instead, it always seemed like some sort of drama.

I do hope he gets drafted and does well, though.

Do you mean wary? Or do you really need a rest?

I love me some spoon but I'll have what they are drinking please
1. I think CBS has been higher on Witherspoon than everyone since gam 2 if not earlier.
2. College fans are still puzzled with draftniks are much on Levis
3. I am not a Bears fan, but I am expecting them to stay within the top 4 unless the haul is insane and I would not be surprised if the haul staying in the top 4 is still insane
