NFL Draft

I'd trade Fields and the #9 pick for hopefully the #2-#4 and a 1st next year, then see if you can get Williams #1 overall and Marvin Harrison Jr with that 2nd pick.

Extremely unlikely, but worth some phone calls

My understanding is that a trade return for Fields is more likely in the neighborhood of a 2nd round pick, possibly paired with a later round pick.

The common wisdom seems to be that QBs who aren't proven stars, or at least proven winners by the start of year 4 are not good gambles, particularly because of how inflated their salaries get. I understand the thinking, but it doesn't seem to account for how roulette-like the draft is for QBs.

I'm just a casual, but in Fields, I see a guy with a decently high floor (certainly not a bust) and who appears to still be improving. The league currently seems to undervalue that profile, and overrate the projectability of draft prospects.

Will one of the 2024 QBs become a star? Maybe. 32 QBs were selected in the 1st round over the last 10 drafts. 17 of them were top 5 picks. How many of the below would you be thrilled to have as your starter next year? I count maybe 6-7. If you see more than 11-ish, I'd be surprised to hear it. Either way, not a good ratio. And more of the best came from outside the top 5 than inside.
