According to a report, one of the Jaguars’ sponsors is suing the team because of how bad and embarrassing of a season it was.

Seriously.

Nothing’s really going to change until the McCaskeys fire themselves.

I'm not expecting to turn into the Patriots all of a sudden but seeing Fields with even a remotely competent coach is enough to get me excited.

I graduated high school with George's son and was in a lot of the same classes as him, so I was able to meet George once or twice and they are genuinely really good people...but they really do need to fire themselves. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening. George's son works for the NFL HQ in New York, which I assume is a move meant to groom him for taking over the franchise.

At some point shouldn't inheritance taxes force them to sell?

Here's George and Ted's full presser from today:

As far as GM/head coaching search is concerned, two main takeaways:
-Former Bills, Panthers, and Colts GM Bill Polian will be part of the GM/head coaching search.
-New GM will report to George instead of Ted.

In regards to Arlington land, they said they won't close on land until the end of this year or Q1 2023.

For Bears fans, any really good Bears forums online?

The Chicago media is eviscerating McCaskey so far. I agree with the doubts that anything will change until they give over full football power to someone. He admitted he is a fan without in depth football knowledge, but will be making the decisions anyway.

Bears have requested permission to interview with Bills OC Brian Daboll and DC Leslie Frazier for the head coaching jobs.

They've also requested an interview with two members of Browns' front office, VP of Football Operations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and VP of Player Personnel Glenn Cook, as well as Colts' director of college scouting Morocco Brown for the open GM job.

Adofo-Mensah is seen to be a rising star in NFL front office circles, having interviewed for Panthers' GM job last offseason. Cook served as the Browns’ Assistant Director of Pro Scouting from 2016-19 before being promoted to VP of Player Personnel. Cook also spent time with the Green Bay Packers as a pro scout from 2012-15. Brown is one of the top GM candidates this offseason, having interviewed for the Falcons' GM job last offseason. He also worked for the Bears as their assistant director of pro personnel from 2001-07 and served as the right-hand man to Colts GM Chris Ballard the last several years.

Brown and Daboll would be fine with me. The Colts drafts have been stellar and the guy who coached up Josh Allen is a good vision for what Fields can become.

Why are they not hiring the GM, before interviewing coaches? I really don't get this. I have been a fan of Polian in the past, and think, if motivated, could help. But shouldn't the GM be hired ahead of even interviewing coaches. Otherwise, why not just make Polian the GM (I am sure that he isn't really interested in a full time gig at this point).

I got no problem with them casting a fairly wide net in the coaching search at this point. They most likely won’t be hiring their coach until right before or after the Super Bowl anyway. No reason not to get familiar with some of the coaches as you’re making your GM decision.

Some of the coaches they’re interviewing might be as much for background on the GM candidate as the coaches themselves. Bringing both the OC and DC from both Tampa and Buffalo, you think they might ask what they think of some of those front office guys?

A more cynical take also might be that if you look at who they’re interviewing right now, they’re getting the Rooney Rule out of the way before the GM comes in and can focus on who he really wants to hire.

From what I read, ideally they want to hire GM first, but are interviewing coaches simultaneously so they don’t miss out on a candidate if he really rises above other guys during interview process. Seems a little strange to me too, but they are interviewing what seem like guys who will likely be on everyone’s list of interviewees, so maybe makes sense.

I just don't want the excuse out there that the GM didn't get his guy, but was assigned a HC. It makes it more difficult to decide who the real culprit is (assuming failure, after all, we are used to it).

I appreciated this article posted yesterday from USA Today on the subject of poor representation of Black coaches in the NFL: https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/...en-more-poorly-represented-than-they-are-now/

"That’s not to say that any coach at any level should be hired because he or she is Black; it’s more to say that while the NFL keeps pace with white mediocrity and has always done so, it’s inarguable that on the whole, Black head coaches are held to a higher standard, and given far less oxygen with which to navigate any kind of roster and cultural architecture."

There’s been several studies done that show Black NFL head coaches get held to a higher standard and don’t get second chances at the same rate as White head coaches.

Mike Tomlin - The all time winningest Black head coach works for the owner the Rooney rule is named after.

Tony Dungy - The 2nd all time winningest Black head coach was fired after three consecutive winning seasons for the organization that to this day still has the worst winning percentage in NFL history. He did get another chance, never had another losing record, went to 2 Super Bowls, won 1, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame after retirement.

Marvin Lewis - The third winningest Black head coach might be the exception that proves the rule. 16 years without a playoff win, all with the same franchise.

Dennis Green - The fourth winningest Black head coach coached 9 seasons without a losing record and was fired after his first losing record. He was then out of coaching for 2 years before being brought back by a moribund franchise and only given three years to right the ship before being fired. He never got another coaching gig.

Lovie Smith - The fifth winningest Black coach took his team to their only Super Bowl appearance in the last 35+ years and was fired after a 10-6 record. He was later hired by the aforementioned losingest franchise in NFL history and was only given two years to turn the franchise around. He’s now an NFL DC.

Jim Caldwell - The 6th winningest Black coach had two winning seasons and then got fired for having a losing season when his star QB got hurt. He was out of coaching for a couple years then got hired by a joke of a franchise, had winning records in three of his four seasons there, including his last two, but was fired. That franchise has not won more than 6 games in a season since.

Art Shell - The 7th winningest Black coach had winning seasons in 5 of 6 seasons, including his last two, and was never worse than 7-9. He waited 12 seasons to get another HC gig and was only given one season to win for a franchise that had 5 or fewer wins in the 3 seasons before he got there and would do the same in the 3 seasons after he was fired.
