Honestly, any other time Malcolm drives and falls to the floor in that situation and there is no call, I have very few complaints because I'm good with the old adage, "let the kids decide the game."

But the ticky tac that was called a second earlier totally negates the concept, "let the kids decide the game." You can't have it both ways, either the whistles go away, or their used, one or the other.

I understand that the stripes were awful, etc. Let's talk about 50% FT shooting (small sample size, I know), and more importantly 37% from the floor. A team should never put itself in the situation where the zebras get to call the outcome of the game, because it's never going to be right when they do.

At least we say a lineup without the two 'pg's' in it. Now if he would quit playing the other one.

Absolutely!

What is so bad about that last play is that the arm for the ref goes up just as Malcolm raises up. Clear indication of continuation. Really frustrating that refs make a difference. They shouldn't, but that is just how the year is going.

Couldn't agree more. But as a player on the floor, the inconsistency of the whistles in college basketball has to be maddening. Pro ball is so much more consistent.

Were all of the refs named Homer? Just like a cell phone. A lot of missed calls.

JCL is looking quicker and more athletic lately. He must finally be getting back into game shape. He absolutely left McIntosh in the dust off the dribble, but instead of pulling up for an easy mid-range shot. He ended up getting a offensive foul which was questionable anyway.

MH gets more points taking away because of Phantom fouls on the floor being called. Every time he's driving and gets advantage there's a whistle right about the time he's making an easy layup.

Yup! Every possession counts.. had a couple of missed layups.

Terrible call before the no call. Ref shouldn't have blown the whistle. That being said, it would be really nice to have a decent out of bounds play running off a pick or two for a face up jump shot or drive towards the basket instead of a lob moving away from the basket with 2.4 seconds. MH could never gather himself to make a quality move toward the basket. JG is just in over his head from an X and O standpoint. Still waiting to figure out what JG's coaching MO is other than being wildly inconsistent and subpar in every facet of the game. It's time to move on.

Odd game. Defense and rebounding weren't too bad. Needed to make a couple of more buckets is all.

If I heard Groce correctly on the radio, it wasn't supposed to play out like that. Sounded a bit peeved about the play.

The refs controlled from the beginning. It was the only reason it was close to begin with. This game should be sent immediately for review by the league and the refs should be held accountable. There is no reason to call the first foul but not call the second. I'm not sure I could count on both hands how many times Malcolm has been taken out at the knees but no call.

Sorry a few too many beers.

If we shoot 80% and hold the opponent to 20 pts per game, we will usually win. Of course, we could have played better and won, but how captain obvious could that be. College basketball games *do* come down to one or two possessions a lot of the time, which is why the calls can be really upsetting, especially at the end of the game. Ask Dee Brown, lol.

1. I hate losing. I really hate losing to a directional school. I really, really hate losing to a team coached by Collins. I guess I just have a lot of hate right now.

2. To be honest, it was a pretty boring game to watch. Maybe the Northwestern match-up zone does that, but neither team was really exciting on offense. Both teams actually shot poorly except from three, and they both shot well from three.

3. Tre Demps did huge damage in a very short stretch with his four consecutive three-pointers. Lindsey also hurt us from deep early on. Still, we were actually better from deep than the Wildkits, and they are pretty good.

4. Malcolm Hill had a poor shooting night, but he had 13 rebounds and 8 assists, so he did contribute.

5. JCL continues to look good for a freshman. DJW started out nicely, but he was quiet after that.

6. Mav had another nice game. He has become a solid Big Ten center, and that is a lot more than I expected from him this season. It was good to see Finke back out on the court again. He was rusty, but we need him for the rest of the way.

7. One thing that was impressive is that we outrebounded them by 42 to 33, and they are a good rebounding team. We did put up a fight.

8. That was a tough call on the foul when Malcolm hit that final two. That probably would have given us the game if it is not called on the floor. It is a game of close calls.

9. Well at least we have Rutgers coming up next. We beat them at their place, so I have high hopes for that one.

Go Illini!

BINGO. You are absolutely right. The ref never blows the whistle.

Honest question, if we are in the bonus, do you think there is any chance with under 5 seconds that official makes the same call?

With this crew, I'm guessing zero chance cause on a similar slight bump two seconds later -- when in the bonus -- the whistles were swallowed. Not sure how the strike zone changed so suddenly. Maybe somebody wanted to go home.

What a terrible finish to that game. Not sure how the refs could call off the shot by Malcolm Hill. I don't think I've seen anything that bad in recent years. I guess it shows that a team with a poor record doesn't get any breaks, so you have to work hard to stay ahead. Poor game overall, and sorry to see any Illini team lose to the Wildcats.

I'd like to see Groce blow his top in the presser. What the hell. Get a fine. Get a one game suspension.
