COVID messes everything up. There can’t be a simple “winning %” rule or a “who won more games” when all games aren’t played.
There are too many variables.
The B1G will simply have to assess this as they go, try to get some make up games in, and then make a final determination.
I mean, if two teams find themselves as the clear #1 and #2 of the conference but have a disparity in total games/wins/losses (for example let’s say 13-3 Michigan vs 14-4 Illinois) and those two teams haven’t played, maybe set up a one game regular season matchup the Monday or Tuesday before the B1G tourney and have the winner take the regular season crown. They would be a top seed and wouldn’t play until Friday anyway.
Heaven knows what they will do if it isn’t a 2 horse race.
Bottom line: They have to be creative with this. If it were simply winning % NW could have stopped 3 games in and won it all. If it is only games won, good teams may be wrongly penalized for there own or their opponents COVID cancellations.
Either method by itself is unfair. Have to use some critical thinking/decision making in this one.
