What a three days from a weak slap on wrist to firing. Mismanagement galore from Northwestern.

The timing on this will be devastating for Northwestern. When we fired Beckman the season was only a week from starting (terrible). There wasn't realistically enough time for guys to transfer and still play that fall.

The players for Northwestern on the other hand have almost a full month to transfer and still be able to be a part of most training camps.

Good luck to the next guy trying to keep that thing intact.

Yep, this was inevitable. Depending on the fallout from here, if it doesn't go much deeper he should pop back somewhere in a year once it's blown over. If it gets worse and worse based on additional info, then well...
I really can’t see him getting invited back into any college program

some level of pro ball ? yea, maybe
he was never a DC anywhere , not sure what his coaching chops are at a position besides ILB or OLB

Fitz was already in trouble with 3-9, then 1-11 the last 2 years.

I wonder what NW would have done if this was coming off his one of his 10-3 seasons.

With 16 years of success came arrogance.

He was the most successful football coach in NW history and it ends like this. Better to retire too soon than too late.

Guys who went out on top - Michael Jordan, John Elway, Jay Wright (Villanova) Barry Sanders, Bill Russell, Pete Sampras, Rocky Marciano adn Jim Brown

Coaches - Jay Wright, Bill Walsh, Dick Vermeil, John Wooden, Al McGuire
