Will Northwestern lose any recruits we have a shot with?

Fitz can’t & won’t survive as NU coach with this .
His days in college football are done . His only future football jobs are in one of the pro leagues .

fwiw, his star had sunk anyway . doubtful that team was any good this coming year anyway , and they might have been forced to fire him in November .

who can they get to take that job ? even on a one year deal ?
I nominate Tim Beckman.

Too soon?

I bet this guy would be willing to accept a paycheck to sit around and not haze kids.

indeed
it’s their version of our slush fund scandal from 55 years ago

whoever they get as next permanent coach , needs to be a home run. good luck
You are absolutely right. They also need to make sure they pick a coach that is an outsider (so they can get distance for this decade and a half cultural abuse), but I think that will prove very difficult -- in the home run pick sense.

It took us many years, and 2 coaching changes, to feel like we fully overcame the Beckman scandal. I think it will much harder at a place like Northwestern. Get used to hearing the "you will work for us someday" chant at NW games, because they are going to be very bad for a long time.

At which point they’ll need to get used to our “we’re gonna file a report with H.R.” retort.

OK.. I'll veer slightly off-topic in the service of slamming NU...

I've never been in a position to work for an NU grad and never will be ;). And I'm in a field where they and Michigan grads are thick on the ground like seven-year cicadas in their death throes (though providing a far more satisfying crunch when you inadvertently step on one.)

I was a fan of Jeff Carter's Points and Figures blog (he's now moved it to Substack). He's a UIUC alum, former futures trader in Chicago, and now a VC (he has a wonderful recent piece concerning living in a cabin during the summers on the north shore of Lake Superior, and the community of self-reliance required there.)

He wrote last fall at one point of the general hollowing out of the liberal arts in universities over the past 20-30 years, and the plummeting value of a degree as the constituent disciplines have become heavily politicized and diluted. He cited a recent anecdote from his wife via their neighborhood listserv about a woman in her late 20s, with an NU liberal arts degree, seeking employment as a dog walker in a fairly robust labor market.

He noted his UIUC background and an old favorite joke of his:

Q: "How do you get a Northwestern grad off your porch?

A: "Pay him for the pizza."

They don't all become attorneys and investment bankers. ;) And I'm decidedly not a fan of the place.

"Nay-ked hay-zing!!!" clap, clap, clap-clap-clap should be the standard Illini fans' retort. Tailor-made to bring them to their knees. (Sorry, that was gratuitous.)

I'll refrain from copyrighting that and will offer it to the Big Ten public domain as a charitable contribution.

Is that too brutal? I'd like to see a survey on that. I mean that is BRU-TAL.
Will never happen. We are terrified to play a song that has no words, in the event someone might be offended by music. Plus this would be just rude. Hilarious, but rude.

I really don't like to feel good due to someone else's misery, but smug faced Fitzdick calls for an exception.

Thanks very much for the blog reference - I read the "Living Rural" post and agree it's a great read.

The Alabama sound man greeting Cam Newton as the NCAA was investigating recruiting allegations surrounding his committing to Auburn.

This guy set a pretty high bar.

I was thinking of replacement coaches today and kept thinking that Paul Chryst might be the right guy at the right time for NU. Similar (albeit less talented) player as he had at Wisconsin. He is a decent coach and from what I recall, a decent human being.

He knows the Big10 and could jump in this year. There would be zero pressure. If he doesn't perform at 1-3 years, he could just retire.
