We played a stinker (which happens sometimes). Our best effort isn’t gonna beat Oregon but like 2/100 times anyway. So in reality, not the worst game to have a stinker. Obviously not the outcome players and coaches wanted. Oregon is just several levels above us.

Didn't seem like we came into that game with a well thought out plan on Defense or Offense. We gave the best QB in college football all day long by not bringing any pressure and he carved us up like Thanksgiving turkey. Then on O, more up the gut hand-offs, which haven't worked all season. Ugh.
We aren’t going to see a better team the rest of the year. We should finish 10-2, 9-3 or 8-4.

I would be totally fine with this week sans the injuries… but I guess we will have to see
We didn't play well but Oregon had a lot to do with that. Strong OL and DL and 3-4 player on both sides of the ball that were a notch or 2 above us athletically. On to Minnesota at home. These next 4 games are all winnable and if we can hold our own we will be 8-4 or better and in a very nice bowl game.

At the time Bryant got hit, Illini had just come off scoring a TD and forcing an interception. It was the beginning of the 4th quarter. I am not really mad about keeping him in at that time. If Illini go in and get another td it is a 3 score game, with a bit of momentum, and a lot of time left.
I do question why Luke was back out after Oregon made it 38-9 with 9 minutes left in game, though.
Beat Mn. I would like to hear the BigTen office and explain the targeting call. They called Newto for targeting last year was a joke.

This was not Bielema best coaching game. Coach like an NFL coach, go for the extra point and go for the field goal. He also left key players to long after the game was decided.
Oregon beat us twice, they were overly physical from the start, from a head hunting perspective. The refs no calls on several extra crap allowed it to continue, Illinois also didn't match their intensity. The game was too much today IMHO.

100%. Started out very timid defensively & they just ran right through us. The weird no-call on facemask of Altmeyer/sack/intentional grounding (whatever happened there) gave them the ball right back. Terrible punt. Smashed right through our D again and that was pretty much it. Just looked totally and completely overwhelmed. And LA has been amazing all year...today he looked like last year LA.

Here’s my Eugene experience for those of you that consider it in the future. The weather was perfect and atypical for this time of the year, which made everything better.
* the campus is very pretty. Lots of trees and landscaping
* it was the best crowd environment I have experienced. The crowd was into it and loud the whole game. They did chants and sing alongs where 80% of the crowd participated. First and 10 on our second series was as loud as a key 3rd down defensive stop in the fourth quarter at Illinois. It got really loud on the 4th down at the goal line. Can only imagine how loud it would be with the game in the line
* they stayed quiet when they had the ball until a big play. Ha ha.
* the fans were cool. Two people bumped me when I headed up to concessions and thanked me for coming. Three started ill chants with me, however with two of them starting with INI. They at least tried.
* I was at an athlete alumni event, and went to the other side of the table to serve myself at the buffet. The numerous Oregon fans lined up on the other side looked at me. I said, “well there are two sides and two spoons”. One guy said “there’s academic thinking for you”. I wanted to tell them they understood their place in the academic pecking order but I restrained.
* I was shocked how few Illini were there. Least I have seen at any Illini road game. I counted seventy five orange shirts on the other half of the field. And there was about the same behind me on my half. My friend said our guest section was half of normal.
A worthwhile trip if you can swing it.

10-2 is actually attainable if they beat Minny but most likely either 9-3 or 8-4. Probably more likely 9-3.
Welp, that was the game that was. Silver lining:
1. No more top-10 schools to play the rest of the season. This was our hardest contest. The next four games are Minnesota, Michigan State, Rutgers, and Northwestern. Two of those are home stands. We should get at least two wins...if our play isn't sloppy.
2. We are still bowl-eligible. We got our 6 wins before Kaden Feagin was yanked for injuries, thank heavens. More wins equals better bowls.
3. We can't lose anything from the win column for today's disappointing performance. Very glad we can't slip from 6 wins to 5 wins. We didn't hand them the win, either - we were just outplayed. There's a reason Oregon...and IU...are undefeated.
4. It was not a shutout. We got something on the board. The offense wasn't completely absent.

I think our team is realistically somewhere between 30-40 in the nation. Oregon is top five. It's tough to beat those stats. With that said, we're SO much better than we were five years ago it's not funny. The staff started building this by picking up overlooked talent. Now they have to start signing 4 & 5 stars. On to what looks like a rejuvinated Minnesota team. They looked tough at home today.
Ehh we’re still top 25 good just not top 15 good or top 5-10 good yet.
