I think our run play calling is a function of our poor run blocking. Seems like we try to be too cute with little forward pitches or delayed handoffs 7 yards deep trying to fool somebody. Either way, the line has got to be better than they were tonight regardless if you are going against a top 10 D line or not.

Ya, we were clearly overmatched talent wise. But if we are going to win with that disadvantage, we have to be almost perfect in all other ways, including coaching. And we were far from it tonight.

I do want to call out Luke. Last year he was faced with a ton of pressure from PSU and turned the ball over a ton. He still had guys in his face all day today and did a much better job of taking care of the ball. Wasn't pretty but definitely growth.

In the post game, Franklin talking about their great defensive play at the end of the first half. Huh? We shot ourselves in the foot, along with questionable intentional grounding call.
Agreed, i saw that and thought that was strange take. Our snapping the ball over the qb’s head was a great defensive play??

Said the same thing after that hit lol
He’s an absolute freak athlete. He’s one of our best 11 on offense or defense and feel we need to be creative to get him on the field as much as possible…assuming that’s what he wants too.

I expect to win … Every game … We as a fanbase have to expect to win … Every game …

I know Bret does … I know Josh does …
I want the coaches, staff, and players preparing through practice to have an expectation of winning.

For me, as fans, we need to expect the team to be competitive each and every time the team takes the field (at this part of the rebuild), and we are beginning to do that. And most importantly, fans need to fill Memorial Stadium each and every home game. I believe unrealistic expectations is what leads to less fans packing the stadium.

With that said, I  expect this team to get to at least 8 wins this year, and I expect this coaching staff to continue to hit recruiting hard to make this team championship quality in the years ahead.

Very happy to have only given up 21. Would have thought we had a real chance of winning the game if you told me that mid-week.

Only scoring 7 was by far the toughest and most unexpected part!

P.S. Congrats Carson Goda

Besides the opening drive the defense really battled to keep them honest. We benefited from some bonehead play calls on their end but big props to our guys to keep giving our offense chances. Didn’t think that would happen with how the game started.

It's not just this. We got bullied on the lines and their fans were in it. If we'd scored going into the half, the mood would have shifted. But it didn't and we lost to a better team. That's life
Why, when we have a quarterback with an alleged cannon arm, do we not throw downfield. I'm sick of RB dives on 3rd and 8, or screens that go for 5 on 3rd and 6. Run downfield routes and let Altmeyer do his thing. He could be such a great QB with a better a better OC. Lunney learned nothing from the Nebraska game, and went right back to his usual MO for this one.

We have enough athletes in our skill positions to compete with anybody, but we don't have the linemen to match, so we are going to have to scheme with that in mind and stop with the wishful thinking calls. We have to script plays that slow down the rush and make the defense have to hesitate a second before pinning their ears back. No Valentine and no RPO's? We will still have a great season we just need to readjust to compensate more for our inferior line play.

Say what you will about both lines, and about play calling, and talent deficiencies. Bottom line is we were still in this game late into the 4th quarter. Play calls and poor kicking, we were in this game late into the 4th quarter. Improvement is showing, slowly but surely. 5 years ago could we say the same!!!!!

Yes move Feagin to inside linebacker and Valentine as the starting RB.
Yes. I have no idea why Valentine isn’t getting more action, from the eye test he is the best back, certainly the most explosive.

Feagin slows down before contact against CBs when he’s running the ball and has poor vision. That tackle on the other hand… he destroyed the guy. Best tackle of the night.
