Cut it to 5 and then Andrew Funk goes on an 8-0 run which includes a three off of an OOB play where there was 1.8 on the shot clock.

Only positive takeaway I can find is that hopefully the freshmen learned a lot and will grow from this.

That play was a coaching mistake. Brad has Coleman guarding the player passing the ball in. Why not just double Funk / Lundy instead? There is no way the in bounder can get the ball back and shoot anyway.

We overclose on 3 pt shooters that aren't really that quick triggered. We just got trust that we're quick enough to contest. Funk hit some crazy ones but most of their looks were wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open.

Also our off ball defense and off ball offense had 0 intensity.

11 am Saturday morning games and Penn state games are our achilles heel.

0-2 is not ideal but our schedule is still very favorable compared to most teams in the conference. The only way to turn it around is to go on a winning streak, win some games you aren't favored to win. This team is more than capable of doing that they just have to do it.

Where were our seniors/upper classmen pulling this team together? I saw 4 freshman on the court during our brief second half run.
We were absolutely confused on offense. Can Coleman Hawkins be any worse? You think maybe he could post up a 6-4 guy guarding him instead
of standing 25' from the basket pointing to guys? that's not leadership. PITIFUL.

Forget the shooting. Why was Jalen Pickett allowed over and over again to get into the paint with no resistance?
They will both lose you a game. Especially when both happen in one game.

We miss Trent Frazier and Damonte Williams cause no way buddy from Penn State Pickett would've got off like this. I was hoping Coleman or Ty Rodgers would be our enforcer but we don't got anyone really I guess.

OK that’s what I thought. Underwood got outcoached. Made zero adjustments - just impotently screamed at his players and randomly subbed people in. PSU schemed the hell out of our D and we didn’t respond.
I'm not convinced we needed adjustments to our scheme. I think our scheme would have been fine if anyone other than Harris and Clark had come to play (probably forgetting someone). Everyone else just looked flat on D.

He and Clark were the only two players to even shoot one today.
Dainja 2-7. Not good.
WORST performance I have ever seen by an Underwood team. So called team leaders-Shannon, Melendez and CO-HAWK never made an appearance in this one. Mayers 14 pts. in 1st half not a single pt. in 2nd. Shameful display of NO-DEFENSE. Penn State was wide open all day long and got to the basket like water poured through a sieve! Wonder which team they are-Jekyll or Hyde?
15 total points. And 2 of them are supposed to be drafted this year.

I hate to break it to you but Pickett punked Trent and Damonte last year too. Did the exact same thing. Difference was we had Kofi and they didn't.

Failure to properly gameplan is squarely on Brad.

BU said in the pregame presser PSU was good from three and it seems like we were not prepared to defend that at all. need to figure it out quick so this 0-2 hole doesn't get any deeper

One of the biggest regular season disappointments of the last 5 years.

You just never know what this team will give you from one game to the next. Which is not great.

I've always maintained that this team will struggle for the first couple months of the season before they hit their stride. But this game certainly plants some doubt in my mind. Very few (if any) Final Four teams have ever lost to Penn St. at home.

Most of all, I'm worried about the defense. For as many problems as it causes it gives up easy, open shots. Some will say that every once in a while you just run into a team that shoots 60% and there's nothing you can do about it. But the reason PSU shot 60% is because they were mostly uncontested.

Oh well. Placing trust in BU that he can figure it out.

Yeah Kofi makes up for alot mistakes I guess. I just don't remember it being as easy for him last season

Penn State could very well be a tourney team this year. Would not say that. This team will figure it out on a night to night basis soon. One loss does not change that.

That was rough, to say the least. Seems the most glaring stat was 3 point shooting...12-24 vs. 7-23...15 point difference right there. Skyy had a couple open looks that just wouldn't go down, and Funk hit some ridiculous shots. It happens.

We knew there would be some early bumps in the road. Some slight concerns going forward for me. Dain can't continue to miss FTs at this rate and Mayer has to learn to play some defense. I'm guessing that's why he saw limited minutes in the second half.

Anyway, on to the next one.

They found a glaring weakness in our current switching defense. If you have hot 3 pt shooters spread the court, screen until you get a wing on a guard, back hIm into the lane and bingo. Rinse, repeat

Skyy was 0-10 a few games ago. I don't think it matters if he's open or not. Let's skip the they are so athletic and find some shooters. When it's said and done you have to put the ball in the hoop. You can run and you can jump, but can you shoot?
