I know that he did not single him out, but it’s hard not to picture Coleman in watching BU’s presser. We are a tough combo right now of young, with upperclassman who are not the most disciplined of players that we’ve seen play under Brad.

Every day guys, we are not just yet.

Why just point out TJS, what about C0-HAWK. I have never been a fan of his. He is a sloppy passer, has weak hands cannot shoot on the move. But don't be mistaken this was TOTAL TEAM LOSS!
It’s everyone, but I picked out TSJ because he’s the guy who “should” be our superstar. No one can really keep up with him 1 on 1 but I only saw him attack a few times.

Maybe our 5 out doesn’t give enough space? Maybe we should old school clear out and let TSJ iso on his man? I’m just perplexed as to why hes not able to consistently be our go to guy. I don’t know if it’s mental but he has all the tools and explosive athleticism to be that guy.

We are not THAT bad. This team is still trying to figure out how to play together. As usual, when we win a big game we over react and when we lose we over react. Truth is, we will probably be a fourth or fifth place team in the big 10 and hopefully be playing good ball heading into the tourney’s. Hopefully!

Maybe I'm the only one, but really, I'm not all that unhappy about this game. When you're a young team with a lot of new faces, sometimes you're going to have games where you don't do what you need to to win a game. Personally, I thought the effort was there, but the recognition of what was going on and the individual responsibilities to the team defensive assignments wasn't. And that's compounded when you go up against a team of veterans who are draining the ball. I thought we played a lot better overall in the 2nd half, but a few bad decisions/sloppy plays, a couple missed open shots, and PSU making some low percentage shots, and the hole we dug ourselves was just too much.

In a game like this, I'd prefer to focus on what we did right. Ty Rodgers had a good game, his best of the season. He showed a lot of effort, was tough on the glass, and played much better defense today than he has previously. Sincere Harris is another one who had a good game, though defensively, Pickett took him to school. This is the first time Sincere's defense has been tested all season and it comes down to strength and conditioning, and I think this game will be a great learning experience for him in making sure he doesn't allow strong veteran opponents to get good position on him when they receive the ball because he won't be able to defend that. The Sincere Harris in a year won't be bullied like he was today. Skyy Clark also had a good day offensively and was especially responsible on the boards. He was also bullied by Pickett today, and he still has quite a ways to go on defense, but he had an overall decent day.

And finally, a game like today allows a coach to hold his players responsible and get them to recommit to the team philosophy. While you never want to have these types of games, practices, or pressers, having one early in the season with a young team is a good time to have it as it helps them understand what the expectation is to step on the court.

Overall, I wouldn't take too much from this game or blow it out of proportion. Now if we come out our next few games similarly, then I'd say it's time for concern, but when you're a young team, you're going to struggle early against teams with veteran experience. That's how you learn and that's how you grow. And to be honest, a game like this could be the type of learning experience necessary to have a special season. I'm not overly concerned.

You think he didn’t know he had a timeout? And you think he didn’t make any adjustments? Also hard to make adjustments when there isn’t any effort given.
Whatever happened...it wasn't successful. I don't necessarily buy this was a loss due to lack of effort.

-They shot 50% from 3
-we had more turnovers than they did
-We missed alot of FTs

On our D...I like when we mix it up a little on D.

PSU 2d half was an offensive clinic against us.

Their coach is really good.

It takes a while or even years for a team to become what is expected of them. Even the 05 team wasn’t that awesome off the bat. They had to go through growing pains as well.

I didn’t like that at all. PSU is a good team that had a good day, but we didn’t show up at all on d and made it far too easy on them. It was like they were told to stay at home on shooters so they didn’t rotate, but they didn’t bother covering the shooters, either. Just stood and watched from no-man’s land all day.

I was particularly bummed out by how bad the upperclassmen were. TJ never showed up and Mayer was checked out all day. Glad Underwood called them out because they deserved it. I’m not a big “they didn’t try hard enough” guy for the most part, but today…

From listening to Brads radio interview I believe that was the plan. He said they didn’t care if he scored 60.

Out 3 point defense was horrible. Late recovery fly by’s.

Poor coaching. What film has Brad been watching this year? We have stunk defending the three.

What makes him think we would have been successful allowing Pickett to bully us?

I made the mistake of looking ahead and I could see a path where we won the next 20 games.

After watching today, and hearing Underwood ... Coach has to love this. This team needed a kick in the rear and they weren't going to listen until something like this happened. Think about it for a moment. Most of these guys have not grown in the Underwood system. He can now tear them down and build them back up and they will listen. If not ... as Dion would say, you know where the portal is ;)

Before I get ahead of myself and light the match on this dumpster fire of a game, let Daddy Brad do his thing. All I can say is I feel sorry for our next few opponents because they are going to be shredded.

This game put as at a crossroads.

TSJ: are you the go-to leader of this team or not? That isn’t a part time gig for great teams and Brad can’t be our team leader from the bench.

Hawkins: we’re at our best when he’s getting boards/ making amazing athletic hustle plays- we’re at our worst when he’s trying to play point guard and force things

Dainja: we will definitely need him. shoot 1000 FTs day and find way to get open more consistently in the post

Freshmen: all talented and getting better/learning. Their ups/downs are predictable/ understandable early in season.

This team is deep and extremely talented but obviously still trying to find a true identity. Oppty to become great, but time alone won’t guarantee they actually will.
Need to commit to more disciplined/ defined roles, clear game plans, and find their leader(s)
Dainja: we will definitely need him. shoot 1000 FTs day and find way to get open more consistently in the post

Without a major alternation in his form, practice will be of little benefit.

We only gave up 27 points in the 2nd half so I wouldn't call that a clinic. We win 95% of our games if we only give up 27 points in each half.

He punked every player on our roster nobody stepped up to oppose him.
He is a major match up problem for our guards. Too strong and experienced down low with great vision. Switching got us in trouble with Pickett. I know we want to switch but today vs him I am not sure it was beneficial. I would have like to have seen Rodgers get and stay on him. When we switched the other freshman guards were over matched one on one and to do nothing caused issues. Doubling hurt too because he found open shooters.

This is what I keep telling myself. I figured we'd have too many new pieces this year to gel in time for a shot at the Big10 title. This year is all about getting that monkey off our backs in March and making it to the 2nd weekennd.

Indeed he picked us apart from the jump ball to the finish. I would love to have seen Ty get after him but Pickett just too crafty and skilled. Penn State just a bad matchup for them got to play your A game to beat them.

this team shouldn't have acted like they're all that after beating Texas. they won but looked like garbage for most of that game

#173
We are not playing as a team yet. Not surprising given heavy freshmen amd transfer play/

Brad doesn't know what's going to happen when he presses any button on his Coaching Machine. We have a lot of good players but no identity or calling card at all.

We're nowhere even close to being a conference championship type team.

Penn State isn't better than Texas, but the gap isn't giant. A 4 seed versus a 10 seed.

But all in all we wouldn't have deserved the ranking we'd have gotten by winning this game, so lets hope it starts to be a catalyst to find something reliable within our group.

We'll keep trying hard, we know that much, and that's a place to start.
I think that this is going to be the norm moving ahead. When players are moving around every year, it is very difficult to generate chemistry and team play.

You are right not a full half clinic...from 12:11 to 9:41...Dread and Funk took game from 52-47 to 66-47....so I guess the offensive clinic was 14 points in about 2.5 minutes in middle of 2d half
