Agree ... My problem is Brad thought having Hamer as DC was a good idea, to begin with ... Then to continue to go with it ... That's something ...

When has Brad ever adjusted schemes in season? I’m not at all surprised here. We died on the “over play the passing lanes to cause turnovers” defense for two years before it was scrapped. It took me two Big Ten games to realize it would never work.

hot take... Hamer or whatever his name is rightfully deserves to get major criticism. But most of our defensive woes have nothing to do with scheme and everything to do with grit, toughness, and effort. Scheme didn't tell harmon to get back doored over and over again, scheme didn't tell coleman to let the post player easily get to their 1,2 dribble and shot move with ease, scheme didn't tell coleman to foul a 3 point shooter, scheme didn't tell our guards to play matador defense and allow PSU to get in the lane at will, scheme didn't tell Domask to leave a 3 point shooter when you don't want to give up a 3 to guard the layup...Scheme didn't tell the players to CONTINUOUSLY swipe with weak a$$ fouls on countless and 1's game after game.

I've been pretty vocal in this thread but the only reason I'm this mad is because we are actually GOOD so losing games is surprising. The reason we are in this position in the first place is BU. It's all to easy to remeber when winning games was a surprise.
I hear you, and he should be commended for what he's done with the program. However, it's time to be an "elite" team--a term he uses often. It's time to take that next step. For me, after last year's debacle and how some of these games are going this year, he is not an "elite" coach. How long do we have to accept this?

Aren't his errors glaring ones? Being stubborn can hurt a team as well. I accept the PU, Marquette, Maryland (no TSJ) and Tennessee losses. The other losses to MSU, NU and this one? Can't accept it. This team with this talent should be 22 - 4 presently with a great chance at a 2/3 seed. Instead, they'll be a 4/5 seed who will barely beat the 12/13 seed.

Last year, I was called crazy because I predicted (when the Illini were playing very well and most likely a 5/6 seed) that they would end up being a 9th seed. In the end, they were a 9th seed, because I saw the writing on the wall. And bu lost that team. That was his failure. This is following the same path.

I would not want to be in that locker room. Can only imagine what Brad said to them, especially Coleman
Me neither, lol! And they deserve to hear it, good and hard.

But Coach Underwood ought to then take a long look in the mirror and think about just why his team can't execute anything sensible against a full-court press. Or in-bound the ball. It looks very much like the team doesn't work very hard in practice on these key things. It's been very noticeable all season.

And the lazy, sloppy, weak passing is a problem.

I can imagine. Missing 2 FTs and fouling a 3 pt shooter was just the culmination. His head wasn’t in the game from the start. Easily his worst game.

I guess that tells us how important Coleman is to this team. TJ with a career high. Double them up on rebounds. But Coleman has his worst game? We still lose.
: eye roll :
If Hawkins had his head in the game and played like a good college player much less a future NBA player then we win easily. Probably removed from draft boards after today. Too much fun for him after Maryland. Not professional or consistent.

This is just the nature of college basketball. Anyone can beat anyone. Not making excuses for the poor execution down the stretch but this team can still beat anyone and should have an opportunity for an exciting run in March.
I respect your optimism, but I don't think this team can still beat anyone--especially the way they've been playing. We shall see, though, and I certainly hope I am wrong.

He gives us so much on both offense (3pt shooting) and defense (switching into guards) that it's almost impossible to take him out for long periods and win.
I was hoping that senior year maturity would kick in, but he was flopping all over the court tonight. Every time he doesn't get a foul, he's chirping at the ref and flailing around even harder next time
The problem with Coleman switching onto guards is that it leaves the paint wide open for cutters to slash to the rim. That’s been our Achilles heel all season.

Maybe BU should have our best FT shooter and ball handler catching the damn in bounds pass.
The foul was awful but Hawkins shouldn't have had the ball. Also with all the trolling n crap I knew he was going to miss those FTs and for this to occur makes me believe in karma. Domask needs to.lead and if he had the ball at the end more we win
He doesn't take screw up mentally. Others do all the damn time

So if we have 3 really good defenders in Coleman, Ty, and TSJ, and 2 decent defenders in Marcus and Quincy, anyone have thoughts on why we can’t play defense?
We don't have a physical big down low that provides any sort of resistance. Coleman is good at guarding smaller positions but can't play down low. Hansberry is our best low block defender
