Casey's pizza is a pretty big deal all across the state of Iowa. It's hard to believe that a gas station/general store can make something so non-gas station-y :D Most people I know prefer it over the typical pizza delivery chains, as do I.

OK, you and BananaShampoo have convinced me. I am going to have to check it out sometime :)

Caseys is legit. That breakfast pizza is second to none as well.

Don't know about all of them, but the Casey's in my hometown not only has great pizza/ breakfast pizza, but they also have great donuts that are baked fresh daily as well as the best biscuits & gravy in town. It's my go to place every morning for breakfast on my way to work. They also just renovated the store and opened up a sub sandwich bar for lunch. Great place to stop for a quick meal when you're on the run. Now, back to your regular scheduled Illini basketball thread :D

I am partial to thin crust pizza and I have traveled to every state but Delaware, Hawaii, and Alaska (and just finished a week in Italy) and I have yet to find a thin crust pizza...when done right and served fresh....that compares to Monicals. That cracker thin crunch is unique and freakin' delicious.

So, I'm not saying it's "the best", and i'm not comparing it to Chicago casserole pizzas. It also holds a special place because of it's ties to Champaign. :illinois:

Also, beat EIU.

You need to try Old Orchard Lanes on RT 45 near Savoy. It supposedly is the ORIGINAL Monicals recipe and is the thinnest, crispest pizza I've ever had (also incl 49 states and a trip to Italy).

Ha! Lunch almost every Thursday for about 3 years! Pizza special!
We loved it, but I never heard the original Monical's story. :thumb:

OK, this pizza discussion has been so intriguing I am going to weigh in on this. If you haven't tried Dominoes (of all places) thin crust, give it a shot. Put whatever toppings you want on it. It is not bad at all. So, what is the starting lineup tonight, anywho?

Yes basketball please. But real quick, what about Pequod's and Malnati's? My two favorites.

Ah, Pequod's. Home of the caramelized crust. Maybe my favorite. Started by the legendary Burt Katz who invented the caramelized crust. Also started the original Gulliver's (and Inferno's in Evanston if you want to go that far back). He now has a place around the corner from Pequod's called Burt's Place which seats maybe 10 people and by appointment only.

Alas, Burt is no longer with us but his place still is, at least last time I looked.

It's a convenience store and a whole lot more,
It's Casey's General Store.

You knew your Central Illinois po-dunk town was big time if you had a Casey's. Where I grew up, unfortunately, only had a Fast Stop.

There's like 8 places that claim to have the original Monicals recipe (I know for a fact that Roy Moncial sold his recipe to Stoufer's for their pizza bread), But Old Orchard has legit good pizza.

Casey's and a Dairy Queen gets you a dot on the map. Throw in a Dollar General, and baby you got a stew goin'.

Back to the game tonight. Looking at EIU's stats from last year, looks like they only lost 1 of their top five scorers, but he was their leading scorer.

Had 7 guys that averaged 20 minutes or more. 4 of them return. If they don't go very deep, we should wear them out quickly. Goodwin and Lewis both shot close to 40% from 3pt range. Didn't get to the free throw line very much.

I've never had better pizza than Antonios on Green Street. Been all over the world and only Italian pizza compares. So sad it's gone :'(

What I gathered from BU and players discussing Damonte in the past.

He seems to be in the right position/smart player
Anticipates well, nose for the ball, gets rebounds and steals
Quick first step and closing speed
Great hands. Catches, handles and passes well. Makes the right decision.
Also has an edge and is aggressive.

Sounds like a very solid start for Damonte, great to hear he is doing well with his recovery.
