No way 15 wins outright. You really think MSU is going to go 6-4 down the stretch? Or Purdue 6-3? FWIW I think at least one team gets to 16. Think it can be us, but really gotta win at least one of the next two, because it's the Big Ten and there's always a chance one of the teams we should beat comes to play and we drop an unexpected game.

I agree I don't think that will happen, all I said was a decent chance. It's the B1G, everyone's schedule is tough...anyone could go on a 3 or 4 game losing streak with each game going down to the wire. The margins are very small right now.

Torvik predicts MSU to go 1-4 in their last 5, BTW.

And pertaining to this matchup specifically, Torvik gives IU a 14% chance to get to 14 wins and a 4% chance to get to 15. They are technically still in the title race.

I heard that your first paragraph will be Brad’s pep talk before we take the court on Saturday.

LOL I'm just trying to talk people off the ledge ahead of time in case we lose this one 55-52.

If we can feed Kofi early and often, I think we'll be ok. If Kofi gets in foul trouble or we struggle to get the ball to him, it will be a long game.

Am I missing something here? Looking at the schedules, it looks like the Illini, MSU, and Purdue all have 9 conference games left. Do we play 19 to their 18? I'm probably reading something wrong. They say that when you get older, you start forgetting things. But, I can't remember what things you start forgetting. Thanx in advance for whoever corrects what I'm missing.

Torvik has us losing both games by 1 point (so basically toss ups). And he has MSU ranked 17 and IU ranked 16th. I just don't see anything scary about MSU. You could argue they don't have a single player in the top 30 in the B1G. And they don't do anything at an elite level. MSU is just a very ho-hum solid/balanced team.

Indiana OTOH, has TJD who is a top 5-10 player in the B1G and they have an elite defense.

I guess it's pick your poison. Well balanced team, but nothing special. Or a team with some elite parts (defense and TJD) and some mediocre parts (offense).
The loosiers made a big upgrade by letting Miller go and getting Woodson , but as i have consistently posted , TJD is the most overrated player in college BB now....If he got paid for every shot he has missed from 10 feet in , he would be a rich man now .....his selection for the list of top defender's is the biggest joke of a decision in college BB awards that I have ever seen ........I'm a lot more worried about Race Thompson than TJD.......Kofi will take care of TJD , but who do we have to stop Thompson .....he could have the effect that Wahl had in the first half last night .......

I expect a win Saturday based on personnel matchups and think it will be............

Illini 78
loosiers 70

Go Illini !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MSU and PU both need to reschedule their home game with UMich.

Wow, was reading this IU preview, and it’s shocking but at the same time not surprising that Frazier’s 3-point percentage fluctuates so wildly depending on where he shoots it!

He’s frickin’ automatic from JUST left of straight on and not great from the wings. I have like subconsciously totally known that, lol, like when he pulls up after dribbling like three feet to his left, I practically start cheering already! Interestingly, Plummer is somewhat the opposite - loves the sides.

That's a nice write up. Are any Illini writers doing this? Or they all behind paywalls?

It’s supposed to stop snowing in Champaign this afternoon. Hopefully the can start getting the highways cleared of snow and jackknifed semis so the team can get out.

I don't think additional snow is the issue. It's the continued well below freezing temps and wind that will just cause a consistent issue. Not ice, so I don't think salt would help. The dry snow (because of the cold) will continue to blow around as long as the wind blows and the temps stay low. That seems to mean that the roads will continually have drifts where drifts want to lie. Unless you are running a lot trucks all the dang time, or you have snow fences up all over the place, roads will continue to be bad. These are my thoughts based on my 36 years in Central Illinois.

oh tell me about it. having lived in Indiana for a bit I couldn't stand that delusional loosier fanbase. Purdue fans are spot on when they refer to IU fans as "reversible jacket" wearing fans (because during the fall they are rooting for Notredame football and then turn their attention to IU basketball when football season ends. Rinse & repeat every year) and of course the vast majority of them never even went to either one of those colleges (or any college for that matter haha)

I sincerely hope we go into their place and Kofi & company put the fear of GOD in their team to the point that it makes the entire Loosier roster pee in their goofy candy cane pants.

GO ILLINI!:chief:
I too lived in Indiana for a time. My first game I attended in person was actually the 2nd round game vs ND in 03. I went to the open practice the day before the game and was interviewed by someone from the Gazette. The next day there was an article in the paper that quoted me talking about how the game will be important bragging right between me and my Hoosier classmates.

Not the result we wanted that day but I came away with a signed Dee Brown hat and some cool memories.

So Frazier's strongest area for 3s is Plummer's weakest. Not surprising.

To all the illini fanatics here , I highly recommend watching The Journey on BTN........if you already are a viewer then you get where I'm coming from ......If you don't watch it or seldom watch , I have found a lot of insight regarding the other B1G teams and their makeup .....

I stated my opinion that the loosiers making an upgrade with Woodson over Miller based on a recent episode of the show........I was on the fence about Woodson and i gained a different perspective about him after seeing that show about him and the loosiers .....I'm not touting him as a savior or savant , but he has brought some sense of stability to that program that has been kind of a dumpster fire as far back as Cellphone Scamscum and the walking Creaner...
Miller clearly was out of his league and a good comparison would be our experience with John Groce .........

Anything i can glean from whatever source about our opponents in the B1G is what I thirst for , as my goal now is an annual 20-0 record in the B1G ......is that attainable ??.......lol , too tough of a conference for that , but you never know ......And my hope's for my beloved Illini are finally getting that NATTY and at worst making the dance every year with no bubble doubts on Selection Sunday .......

As always , JMHO

… as i have consistently posted , TJD is the most overrated player in college BB now....If he got paid for every shot he has missed from 10 feet in , he would be a rich man now .....his selection for the list of top defender's is the biggest joke of a decision in college BB awards that I have ever seen ........I'm a lot more worried about Race Thompson than TJD.......Kofi will take care of TJD , but who do we have to stop Thompson .....
Not sure why so many here think TJD is overrated… He’s averaging 18 a game on 60% shooting, 8.5 RB and 2.7 BLKs. He’s the kind of quick, agile, bouncy athlete Kofi sometimes struggles to guard. Race gives them a nice 1-2 punch. The real “trap” of this game could be how it’s called vis-a-vis Kofi’s fouls/playing time. If the teams are allowed to play as they were in the WI game, I love our chances.

Agreed that TJD’s defense - other than blocking shots - is over-hyped. Just as we may have a hard time guarding their bigs, they have no one capable of walling off Kofi. If we can get him the ball down low (and he stays out of foul trouble), he could go off for another 30+.

Considering that in their 3 matchups so far, Kofi has dominated TJD, I guess I just am not very worried that TJD might be the bouncy athlete Kofi struggles to guard.

Good post bro......................my opinion of TJD is based on the results I see when watching one of the loosiers games ........As everyone should know , stats sometimes can be a little misleading ........His PPG average importance is and has been inflated somewhat as a result of scoring late in games already decided , kinda like in baseball where a player gets 2-3 hits late in a 12-2 blowout where those hits had nothing to do with the outcome.....

EVERY game i has seen of TJD , there are 4-5 times where he has missed a bunny or 5 ft shot so terribly that i shake my head and wonder why all the hype........I have NEVER witnessed him stopping his opponent consistently and efficiently affecting the outcome of a game......Trent does that in every game we play.......the hyperbole about TJD has reached an epic proportion of gagging and spewing for me ......

I just don't see where the praise is warranted in his play........Might just be me , but that's JMHO..................

I'm going to be driving through Texas during the game and intend to try to listen to the radio broadcast on my phone. I'm a bit of a technoresent (not quite a technophobe...) and have never had occasion to look into this before. Can someone please point me in the direction of a reliable Android app that I can use to listen to the game while also running Waze?

Much appreciated!!!

Well, sir, I hope Saturday goes exactly like the other IN games you‘ve seen.

To me, there’s no more soaring joy in my sports fandom than whipping up on the Loosiers, and nothing that crushes the soul like a loss to those clowns in their clown pants. I lived there for 18 years, and got so sick of hearing about those NC banners. 🤮

Inside the Hall is a solid site. I read that write-up this morning and it struck me that, in their analysis of the Illini players, at no point do they mention our defensive prowess.

In my mind…It seems like Trent’s pretty lethal from the deep corners too. But maybe the #s show something else?
