We really need a Jeckel to pair with Heckel.

vs Michigan, 1983 is still the gold standard of biggest games in Illini history.

And though it was before my time, at Michigan State, 1963 has to be right up there.
I respect naming other games. My point was if we beat Indiana we aren’t just a top 10 team in 2025. We are putting ourselves in a position that if you ranked the current top 15 programs in the country that you are going to have to name Illinois.

There aren’t many games in our history that has been true and there are none that if we win we are putting ourselves in a strong position to make the CFP. Winning creates more winning and I think we are entering that world with a win against Indiana.

Not to mention an opportunity to be on a 10 game winning streak (say that again) playing #1 OSU who would also be on a 10 game winning streak (the two longest active streaks) in what would be without a doubt the #1 game in Illinois history and a shot to be the #1 team in the country and be able to play for an undefeated season.

My point isn’t that all of those things will happen. Only that this is a very special time in Illinois football and the Indiana game would be a huge win and cause a lot more of very special moments this fall.

Scott being out hurts, no doubt. Time for someone to step up.
It sucks. It would have been tough enough with Scott and Clarke. They will most certainly exploit it. I don't think a lot of people really understand what this means. Scott is all BIg. Anyway, hoping that someone steps up. Maybe the front seven can get a turnover or two.

Welp, that's it, no point in even playing the game then. We're 4-0 now...bring on the Trojans! See you all at Homecoming!
Lol, and I bet Southern Cal (Someone told me they hate being called that) has never won an early game in the Midwest after having played a night game the week before. Time to start making arrangements for a home playoff game?😄

And maybe an outside chance GameDay would come to that one? 😄
If there are no decent games in the SEC, that is...

If we can beat IU, USC and Purdue we would be 6-0 probably ranked #6 or #7 and hosting #1 OSU. If we knocked OSU off we could claim the #1 spot. Penn State plays Oregon 9/27 so one of them will have lost. It will be up to the voters. However we would have great chance to run the table to 12-0. Of course then the BT title game vs Penn State or Oregon - ughhh. I doubt anybody will be undefeated by CFP. I would like a Big 10 football championship!

An undefeated top 5 matchup against the #1 team in the country with both teams tied for longest win streaks in the country (10 games) dating back to the previous season won’t get it as Texas Oklahoma play who have a combined 4 games against power 4 teams going into the game including losing to one of the teams above.

Again, ND had a 99 yard TD run on the their first run of the game when IU's safety fell down taking a bad angle. After that they were held to 94 yards on their remaining 34 carriers for <3 ypc. ND had one of, if not the best rushing attack in the country last year. Nobody has been able to methodically control the ball and clock under DC Bryant Haines. ND won that game because they had the secondary personnel to cover one on one while they consistently brought 7-8 guys and got home on an immobile QB. OSU was successful in doing this as well and won despite having one of their worst offensive outputs of the entire season.
So you're saying IU is susceptible to chunk plays.

See?!
All you need is a little 30 year old, single malt kool-aid, and we are talking some serious OPTIMISM here!
I like it!
Now - pass the bottle!

Indiana gets a lot of negative play off losing 2 games to the two teams in the National Championship and both were on the road.

This is a silly comparison:

(1) why are we comparing a finishing season stat with where a team is ranked after three non-conference games?
(2) This is also true: Cignetti is 0-2 in his career at Indiana v opponents that finished the season in the top 79 of scoring offense. Illinois is currently #15. But that would be ridiculous to point out because of the timing (5 of the 6 games played by these two teams are going to be the worst in FBS or they're FCS teams).
(3) Again, this is why it's silly: Indiana played against the following offenses last year as ranked in scoring offense:

#5 (lost)
#9 (lost)
#80 (won)
#94 (won)
#98 (won)
#99 (won)
#100 (won)
#103 (won)
#123 (won)
#126 (won)
#129 (won)
#134 (won)
#NR FCS (won)

It’s more about Bielema. And 7 games is a pretty large sample size to conclude he’s struggled vs teams with good offenses.

Now you can certainly argue Indiana won’t finish in the top 45 this year, but I expect they will since they were #2 last year and have a better QB now

Oh, I agree. I just think that, even if it is a minority of both fan bases, I have seen WAY more arrogance that shouldn't logically exist from the IU crowd. In fact, I think most overconfidence on the Illini side is just an emotional reaction to that, and the vast majority of us always thought this would be a tough game. Meanwhile, I have seen more than a few Indiana fans online tossing around 3-score win predictions like it isn't even a remotely hot take.

Point is, and this plays into your post, both of our fan bases should be excited right now but also pretty damn humble given what we have been through.
I'm not arrogant in the sense that I think we are gonna come out and dominate this game or think that we are some heavy favorite

I am arrogant that I think we have one of the best coaching staffs in college football. But I'm also worried that a lot of our Assts will start getting looks from Blue Bloods.

from the numerous podcasts I have watched he was their 3rd rated RB , although he is noted far behind the 2nd rated RB who is a transfer from twerp-land named Hemby............

The general predictions of the many podcasts boiled down 50/50 pick'em although the spread is now loosiers a 6 point favorite....
Actually Roman Hemby is the starter. Kaelon Black is the #2.

I would be very interested to see those 7 games listed.

2021: vs UTSA (30-37) (IL -5.5)
2021: @ Virginia (14-42) (Virginia -10)
2022: @ Michigan (17-19) (Michigan -17.5)
2023: @ Kansas (23-34) (Kansas -3.5)
2023: vs Penn State (13-30) (PSU -13.5)
2024: @ PSU (7-21) PSU (-19.5)
2024: @ Oregon (9-38) (Oregon -21.5)

2-5 vs spread

Have they released next year's schedule? I'm curious when you have us losing next.

Great players. I hope the young men can get back on the field soon.

@Retro62 and I drove 650 miles today to have dinner at The Beef House. Then we drove another 40 to Champaign so we can hang out here tomorrow before heading to Bloomington.

I pull up the Board over a beer at Murphy’s for the first time since Weds afternoon and what I’m hearing you people say is that the $&@@!# plane has flown into the mountain and we should now just turn around and drive home.

We expected more from you. :ROFLMAO::illinois:
