If I had the time, I'd rewatch every Iowa game that DMFV and Trent have played against Iowa this weekend. There have been some battles. Love to see them get some road kill.

Living in the QC right across the river from iowa on a day with a strong westerly wind I can smell the stench of Iowa City. There is no more hated Big team in the area for Illini fans then the sqwaukeyes. Their fans are whiners even when they win. Just the sight of mccafferey on the local sports shows raises the bp. The importance of a win for the Illini fan base in the QC cannot be overstated. So guys please, for the mental well being of thousands of loyal fans put a whipping on those %$#&$!#. I-L-L

Iowa came back in a losing effort to Purdue. McCaffrey, perkins and murray led them in scoring. played 9 players 15 min or more. Monday will be a fun game to catch and a great early B10 quick turn road test for us.

Pretty impressive by Iowa without their best player. Looks like Hawk gets one Murray, DMW gets the other.

Reflections after 8 games played:

- We seem to have dropped the out-front weave; Yea!!! it now makes just 3-4 strategic appearances per game. Much more effective!

- Plummer is a top 5 Illini transfer, all-time; currently hitting 43% from 3-pt range

- Kofi is Kofi; he's a monster in the paint and the #1 Illini center of all-time; he is vital to our success and NCAA title aspirations; however, he will never become Dirk Nowitzki

- We have a ton of complimentary players around Kofi, each with unique skills and contributions; and with Curbelo out, we're getting an opportunity to see those complimentary players flourish

- We'll be even better when AC returns

A ROAD WIN IN IOWA CITY IS FEASIBLE

A win here would set us up perfectly for a 5-0 conference start, with Michigan and Purdue at home back to back after that.

Still early in the season, but by the end of the year I expect Iowa to be around a 7-8 seed. I think Keegan Murray is a little overhyped and he won't be able to carry Iowa all season.

I hope when we get through with them Monday night, they'll have to change their name from Hawkeyes to Buzzard Bait.

Not arguing here per se but keep in mind:
1. Does he need to be Dirk? Hopefully forges his own path when he gets to the NBA and creates a new mold that changes the trajectory of big men.
2. Based on his growth over the last few years, remember he hasn't been playing basketball that long, who's to really say he can't be? He seems to learn awfully darn well and develop his skills and add pieces to his arsenal every year. Can he be as mobile as Dirk? I have my doubts, but I certainly wouldn't count him out.

I predict we're going to make some turnovers, especially early if they put the press on us. And Loyalty will give 100 posts about how awful we are because we're making so many turnovers. But we will have shooters all over the place, and Kofi will be a man among boys down low. Should be a fun and exciting atmosphere. And I want to crush them so badly.

FWIW, we're about equal in KenPom based on the early returns, so I'd expect the line at Iowa to favor them by 1.5.

And not a better opposing B1G arena to do it in... For all of us in the QCA especially. Jacked to see a bigtime statement by the boys on Monday night!

Ridiculous to think Kofi would ever be close to dirk

Couldn't be true. All transfers are disappointments, so says Loyalty.

I don't necessarily disagree. It is practically impossible to imagine him popping out to hit a 3, but I think it's safe to assume that we never envisioned him dishing out of the post like he has this year. And, he has shown a little development in the mid range jumper ( but I'll wait until further into the season to say that is a success). My point is, don't underestimate him. The coaches are just scratching the surface of his potential. If he can do what he's done so far, what happens when NBA coaches get ahold of him?

KenPom Update:
We now sit at #17. Iowa is #21. We're the second highest rated team in the BigTen behind #2 Purdue.

Prediction:
80 Illini
74 Iowa

I expect to be 7-2 heading into the Arizona rematch, with national TV coverage/exposure next Saturday. Perhaps Curbelo comes off the bench to give us a much needed spark and to stop a Hawkeye run. And Fears commits after the game.

We gotta be ready for their trap press. They are 100% going to throw that at us with Belo out.
I watched a video of mccaffrey at a coaches clinic a couple years ago and he talked about how they run their 1-2-2 based on who takes the ball out.

Basically, if a big or guard who isn’t a great handler is back with the primary point guard, they will shade the point of the press a little harder to the pg side, so he will reverse it. They won’t guard the other guy (other than the occasional stunt) until he gets to a trap zone. That’s why you see a lot of teams get stuck in between against it, because they kinda force the non pg in the situation to make the play.

I’ve adopted the approach for my high school team, and it’s pretty effective. I think Hawkins is the X factor in that secondary spot. He’s got decent enough handle, but also the height to see over the 6’8ish guy Iowa usually keeps up there.
