Without comment on whether Belo should redshirt.

NCAA medical hardship rules (medical redshirt):
- The player can compete in no more than 30% of the games.
- The redshirt must be taken before 50% of the games on the schedule are completed.
Both of these round in the players favor.

It looks like the schedule has 31 games, which means Belo can compete in 10 games, and must claim hardship before the 17th game starts. The 17th game appears to be Michigan Jan 14th.

Folks,

Do not much about BB. BUT, with Kofi turning out to be an "elite" passer, I do see more 2 digit wins than I had in mind at the start of the season. And, if Kofi thinks it will help his $$$ in the next level (and I think it should), it could get real nice AFA wins are concerned.

Combine that with a lock-down D and ....................

IL: 80
IA: 65 or less
Yeah it's really impressive how he's been passing. As someone in here mentioned, he had several "hockey" assists after the person he passed to hit the open person for 3.

One interesting thing Mike LaTulip pointed out on the Illini Inquirer podcast a few weeks back is that Kofi taking on double or triple teams may still be the higher percentage move since he's so strong and skilled around the rim. He makes shots at a ridiculous clip and draws tons of fouls. And with him shooting FT better this year, it's even more dangerous.

To me, seeing Kofi leading the country in scoring for a few games was insanely impressive given that he rarely generates his own shot so to speak. He's just an incredible player.

Iowa has come out of no where this season, it'll be interesting to see if they keep it up. They were ranked 9th in the B1G media poll, one spot behind Rutgers and just barely beat out Wisconsin for the 9th spot (150 to 149 points in the poll).

I know they nearly beat Purdue without Keegan Murray, but they nearly lost to a mediocre Virginia team with him. Other than that, they haven't really played anyone so it'll be interesting to see if this game exposes them and the Purdue game was more of a fluke, or if they might be for real.

Besides the 1-2-2 press we will no doubt see, interestingly they didn't double team Edey or Williams in the post when playing Purdue (to my recollection). They may have to with Kofi, but it was an interesting strategy. Looks like a chess match forthcoming.

Am I missing something or is my math off? Isn’t before 50% of games (31) completed before 16th game. And not 17th?

I wouldn't be surprised to see various types of full court pressure the entire game....creating an up tempo play would keep the ball out of Kofis hands to some extent and also Illinois has been prone to turnovers as play becomes more hap hazard

Damonte and Trent talking about Iowa City immediately after the Rutgers is game is all we need to know. They will have the team locked in tonight.

Prediction: We go up by 20, Iowa cuts it down to single digits, but we stop the comeback and win by 12.

Finally starting to show an offensive identity with our 3pt shooting and Kofi playing cleanup/postup. This is the kind of offense that can get streaky and go deep in the tourney hopefully. We are also very versatile and deep except for maybe Kofis position where he needs to stay out of foul trouble for us to play well (missing Georgi here). Todays game will be a difficult one, given the last time we played in Iowa City we lost our 7 game winning streak and then proceeded to lost 4 straight. The model has us losing this game against a really good Iowa team but hopefully Im wrong. This Iowa team again is averaging 90pts per game and Keegan Murray is averaging 25.

(17) ILL 72 35%
(22) IOWA 76

I was surprised by Rutger's lack of pressure on our ball handlers. They waited too long to extend their defense. We seemed to play a little out of control when that happened, though it didn't matter by then. I expect Iowa to come out with a lot of pressure. Teams would do better to keep Kofi from getting the ball as opposed to rushing to triple team him once he has it.

One other note- one of our first plays, Coleman was supposed to feed Kofi on the high-low, and Rutgers denied it and went out for a fast break. CoHawk didn't throw another pass to Kofi until late in the game. I'm guessing that changes for tonight, and they find a way to get Kofi the ball.

Didn't know if right thread or not Dan...............But it's a cool article and i love the misery write up.....

Injuries, illness and the three-game Kofi Cockburn suspension forced Illinois coach Brad Underwood to shuffle his playing rotation during the season’s early weeks.
But the Illini powered through this uncertainty with a 6-2 start. Last week they handled Notre Dame 82-72 and Rutgers 86-51 at home despite missing point guard Andre Curbelo, who has been dealing with the effects of a concussion suffered in an exhibition game on Oct. 29.

The results for the rest of the area’s Division I teams were mixed. Here is how they stack up heading into this week:

MISSOURI (4-4): Let’s not sugar coat it: The Tigers might be one of the worst power conference teams in the country this season. They don’t move the ball on offense, they can’t make shots from three-point range and they can’t finish at the rim either. They fell behind 33-7 at Liberty Thursday night. Thirty-three to seven! They should be able to handle undermanned Eastern Illinois Tuesday at home, but then powerful Kansas, Utah, Illinois and Kentucky await them in non-conference play before the start of the Southeastern Conference season. Given the competitive depth of the league this season, this is going to get ugly.

Biggest key here is going to be Coleman, Kofi and Damonte, IMO. Kofi needs to have an enormous game because he’s our biggest mismatch, and Iowa has one of the weaker frontcourts in the conference this year. Expecting Coleman to get the early assignment on Murray at the 4 — need him to be as locked in as he was against Ron Harper Jr. on Friday. Really think we can outmuscle these guys on the glass too. That’s where guys like Damonte can shine, winning extra possessions. I think we actually match up pretty favorably against these guys. Yeah, they play tough, trap defense, but Iowa isn’t particularly long like Cincinnati where anything short of a perfect entry pass is going to get deflected. Might boil down to a shootout where I trust we’re a little better defensively on the perimeter and have a guy in Trent who can lock down their most capable shot-maker (JBo). Of course, factor in a hostile crowd and a home whistle, and it’s a pretty even game, even without Belo in the mix. Like our chances to pull one out if shots are falling, but we win this game with our bread and butter (defense, energy, rebounding).
