Wonder if Keegan Murray will play tonight, kid is very good. I feel like the Illini will come out with a chip on their shoulder, something to prove.

Sure we had high hopes for him! But to be fair he was on Twitter personally commenting on various outlets that didn't include him in their top PG expectations this year. He was very public about being the guy.

No idea why he isn't playing ball right now but if he is redshirt-able it would be crazy not to do that and save some eligibility.
That I agree with, if you are going to be vocal about being a top PG, then you need to walk the walk. I think he felt he had to put the team on his back while kofi was gone, and opponents we played tried to take him out of the game. That is where it comes back to game planning - underwood had to know that teams were going to try and force curbelo to be uncomfortable. So I don’t isolate it to just him. I think there are a lot of factors, not having kofi for those few games, having guys sick and hurt, the concussion, inability to execute. I also agree that if it doesn’t look promising for his return, then redshirt him. But if he can play this year, we are better with him. Iowa and Arizona will press us.. and Trent still isn’t 100%, so I definitely want him out there for those situations. Just my Opinion.

It’s insane. The “a day in the life” video with Kofi should be mandatory viewing. These guys are giving everything to the school from the crack of dawn until well after sunset, while going to school, traveling nonstop, etc.

Social media has enabled a generation of keyboard warriors that should know better.
Anyway, I digress. Hope the come out breathing fire tonight and that Kofi has between 10 and 40 dunks.
Hey he is also driving a $60,000 car in that video though too.

Along the lines of what LvilleILL said, I think we forget that he is a 20 year old young man. He has been a golden child for years. He tried to play, and wasn't nearly the player that we ALL know he can be. Many fans turned on him, some viciously. He lives far from Puerto Rico. He probably has the weight of the world on his shoulders right now. I wouldn't have handled that well at 20 years old, and most wouldn't. And 0440 is telling as much as he feels he should, and gave info that we didn't have. Would those criticizing him rather he hadn't given that info? In my mind, 0440 is as legit as they come as an insider, from his posts here as well as other reasons.
As for Iowa, I remain unconvinced that they are as good as many now think. They beat Virginia (who also lost to Navy), and their best game was against Purdue, which they lost. DW and TF had 3 TOs against Rutgers, and hopefully have gotten into a rhythm. The B1G is a hard league to press, and that is why BU's offense is no longer the swarming press that he had so much success with at previous stops. Illini by double digits tonight.

he's going to play. time for Coleman to slow down another all big ten level player
I just hope they let them play, but watching B10 road games for twenty years leads me to the following predictions:

1. Coleman is whistled for two quick fouls before the under 12 timeout.

2. Kofi is mauled continually while touch fouls are called on the other end.

3. Iowa shoots double our free throws.

4. Despite 1-3, it’s a one possession game under 8 minutes.

the new motto in the social world now is "" Hey , I'm a fan so I need to know "".............Uh , NO you don't ....There are laws against knowing personal info of someone else...medical or otherwise........When it's appropriate we will know....maybe it never becomes appropriate for us to know....

I'm fine with BU's standard answer to all the media questions ...No news today .......That's OK with me ...

Next man up.........I know everyone wants answers but maybe we need to focus on who IS playing and give them our undivided support.....I continue to support Belo as he is a member of my favorite team and I will wait patiently for his return...he is a special talent and we should treat him with respect , not expecting to be included into what he is going through....

Would your life be better off if you knew what is going on with Belo???? ....Really ????....My life will be better off after we get a roadkill win tonight and continue our recovery from a weird beginning to a season that could still be a special season ....think about how we are playing right now ....Is there that much of an urgency to get Belo back on the court right now ???..

I remember how he looked the last game he played .....lackadaisical and bent over like he was going to collapse or start throwing up......

I suggest we give Belo and the team all the time needed to get belo back to the player we all know he is ...And he will get better ........

Just have some patience and cheer on all the players who are playing ......

Go Illini !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If last night's OSU/PSU is any indication, you'd be correct. 10-2 in favor of PSU with less than two minutes to play.

Love your posts but don't understand what the point of posting this is. Especially on the day we are playing at f$#)$*@ Iowa and all the crap Deon Thomas took with the Blazer

Well, for one, it's totally legal now within the scope of the NCAA NIL rules.

Two, we have a not-insignificant number of fans wondering why our players aren't getting a bunch of free stuff like some other schools. This directly illustrates that they are.

JBo and Plummer will be an interesting matchup...I give Plummer the edge on pure scoring ability and Bohannon the edge in range. And Plummer may not be a lockdown defender, but he sure as heck has better footspeed than old man Bohannon. I expect him to get some layups in transition and put pressure on the Hawks frontcourt in halfcourt sets by driving the ball.
TF should be able to handle Toussaint just fine - and I like DMFW vs. Perkins matchup wise.
Kofi should have a big night assist-wise. It'll be interesting to see how Fran approaches him. If CoHawk can drop some early 3s, that's obviously going to make a huge difference.
I'm more worried about finding parking than anything else - should be a great game but my money is on the good guys to pick up a beautiful roadkill tonight.

Actually very curious on matchups for Plum and Trent. I would put Trent on JBo and Plum on Touss. May change during the game based on the hot hand. Would be great if Hutch was ready to add to the mix.

Yes - would love to see Hutch get some significant minutes.

Trent has absolutely shut down Bohannon in games past so might be worth it to keep that going and let Plummer handle Toussaint.

Do we see Verdonk in the rotation again? I know he's been out due to illness, but the Illini struggled with the interior feed against Rutgers, and he seems to have a knack for feeding Kofi. Maybe he's CoHawk's sub instead of Goode (though Goode has been playing really good ball). It's nice having enough depth to worry about who's playing.

Fair enough - that answers my question. Thanks.

There's a generation of Illini fans sensitive to being accused of cheating every time we start to turn the corner as a program, and that's especially true as we get ready to play at flippin Iowa

I look for Iowa to apply full court pressure with Curbelo out. Can we handle the press in a hostile environment???
As well as this team is currently passing the ball, that might mean layups and wide-open threes all game for us.

Didn't know if right thread or not Dan...............But it's a cool article and i love the misery write up.....

Injuries, illness and the three-game Kofi Cockburn suspension forced Illinois coach Brad Underwood to shuffle his playing rotation during the season’s early weeks.
But the Illini powered through this uncertainty with a 6-2 start. Last week they handled Notre Dame 82-72 and Rutgers 86-51 at home despite missing point guard Andre Curbelo, who has been dealing with the effects of a concussion suffered in an exhibition game on Oct. 29.

The results for the rest of the area’s Division I teams were mixed. Here is how they stack up heading into this week:

MISSOURI (4-4): Let’s not sugar coat it: The Tigers might be one of the worst power conference teams in the country this season. They don’t move the ball on offense, they can’t make shots from three-point range and they can’t finish at the rim either. They fell behind 33-7 at Liberty Thursday night. Thirty-three to seven! They should be able to handle undermanned Eastern Illinois Tuesday at home, but then powerful Kansas, Utah, Illinois and Kentucky await them in non-conference play before the start of the Southeastern Conference season. Given the competitive depth of the league this season, this is going to get ugly.

Uh......Kentucky is in the SEC.

Am I missing something or is my math off? Isn’t before 50% of games (31) completed before 16th game. And not 17th?
If I read the NCAA docs correctly, if there is an even number of games, e.g. 30, the hardship can be claimed after game 15. If there is an odd number of games, the rounding is in the players favor. i.e. 31. This surprised me as well.

How is it free? Kid works his tail off, and has earned every penny.
Not only is he potentially the NPOY, but he is also a remarkable ambassador for the university and the basketball program.

Concur. Plummer and the rest of the team has been doing an admirable job filling the gap for Belo, maybe not with the same flare or style, but they've been very suitable substitutes.
