Big test. Iowa’s offense very good, 4th in Kenpom
Efficiency and they’re among national leaders in assists. IMO best approach is try to get Garza in some foul trouble - it worked for Maryland.

I see us winning one of the next three road games. So if we can hold serve at home over the next 5, I see us going 3-2 over this tough stretch.

You must’ve missed Kofi guarding Oturda outside, staying between O and the basket, then forcing a walk...
Well Oturu did still have 20, which isn't nothing. But more importantly, Garza is better than Oturu. Garza could well be first team all American right now. He's shooting 37% from 3 on twice as many attempts as Giorgi, and he's shooting better from 2 than Kofi on more attempts. He's going to be a handful that will take a team effort for sure.

Garza is going to get his touches. If we can limit the damage from Wieskamp, Kriener, and force Toussaint into some freshman mistakes, I think we have a shot. Toussaint is also a NYC kid. Curious if he and Griffin have any history.

Looking forward to the game, I'll be there with another former Krush board member who lives down in the Quad Cities. We went last year and enjoyed ourselves despite the game — this year's should be a good one. When I bought the tickets, I was not expecting us to be riding a 7-game win streak!

Really thought Oturu was a tougher matchup for Kofi than Garza because of his quickness and ball handling. Think Kofi is quicker than Garza and will be a lot tougher to back up than anyone he has faced to date. Foul problem could go either way but not likely to favor Kofi at Iowa. We can probably live with Garza getting 20 just not 35.

Garza will get his. We need to keep him off the offensive boards. Limit his second chance attempts. Shut down the threes and keep Kofi out of foul trouble.
This seemed to be the method against Minnesota--worked well enough, Oturu had a decent showing, but Carr was shut down. I'll be interested to see who guards Weiskamp. Iowa essentially plays 4 guards and Garza. The good news is if either Kofi or Giorgi get in foul trouble, I don't think we'll have a length issue.

Defend the three at all costs, don't let Garza rebound, and I think we have a great chance. Getting some foul calls would be great too, they aren't a deep team. If we get into a shootout, we lose.

Not sure if there’s any real reasoning behind it, but the Iowa message board seems fairly sure there will be a large Illini contingent ... probably nothing like my favorite live sports memory in 2005 (SIX THOUSAND Illini fans in Carver plus the Krush ... what a blast!), but it’d be really fun to see a large spattering of orange on top of their white out, haha. Who knows? Illini fans just might give these guys that extra spark they need to pull off that eighth straight.

You’re doin’ God’s work, man!!

Going to the game Saturday. Anyone know of any hangout spots to get food and drinks before the game? Any illini hangout spots?

Free throws might be the difference in this game. We have had a little of the foul bug lately and if it continues we will struggle.

I wasn't at the game in 05 but was at the game the last time the Krush took over Carver. I want to say it was Mccameys SR year. They had the entire section behind the basket. I still remember how pissed the Iowa fans were when tip-off happened and the Krush took off their black shirts starting the ILL chant.

If the refs treat Garza and Kofi equally the Illini will win. If they give Garza the same breaks he got against Michigan, Illinois will lose. The Illini are a better overall team , but this game is in Iowa City so hope for the best

That game in '05 was fun. The Hawkeyes gave us quite a challenge before we finished them off. '06 wasn't quite as nice...

I was curious about Illinois' opponents this year and their assist average for the year vs how they fared against Illinois.

Here is what I found (Assists for the game - Average assists per game for the year)

@MD: -0.7
MICH: -.3.2
@MST:+1.2
PUR: -7.5
@WIS: -7
RUT: -5.8
NW: -2.7
@PUR: -5.8
@MICH: -10.2
MINN: -10.7

That seems to match nicely what I'm seeing. The defense is not allowing good ball movement at all. Any offense is 1 on 1 stuff. That's not a good strategy for team success in basketball. Good for us.

Very interesting.

Dre seems to have his swagger back which is huge, especially when we didn’t have AG. If we get some bench production I see us having a chance in the last 2 min and see if Ayo can close another road win. #RoadKill
I'm honestly not sure. Iowa is very good.
Iowa can be very good offensively if they are hitting threes, if not their defense isn't good enough to stop the Illini if the game is called evenly. Cowan and the Maryland offense got about any shot they wanted last night.
