I think we are very capable of winning, but man it's going to be a tough atmosphere. I will probably bet whichever team gets any points.

We have faced adversity and came away with a win in a tough Week 1 while KU played an FCS school without their QB.

Advantage, Illinois.

However, a blackout game for KU with their sweet helmet logo, first road game for Illinois.

Advantage, Kansas.

Two programs on similar trajectories with coaches who have success building programs, should be a great game and atmosphere Friday night.

Will our trench play look better in clogging running lanes and creating holes for our RBs? That’s what I will be paying attention to. Only problem is, it’s karaoke night.

Taking this opportunity to thank Dan for the ignore button. The button makes it quite easy to enjoy rooting for your favorite team, alongside fellow Illini diehards.

Between the incessant whiners/gloom, in the game thead and the same old idiot savants (less the savant), who seemingly only post the same derogatory comments, it’s a godsend!

I thank the remaining posters for injecting some good analysis, sanity and perspective. Go Illini!

I'm really hoping that our offensive and defensive coordinators were holding back some things or not showing our whole hand for the Kansas game.

We need to get the run game going. We certainly do not need a shootout against KU in a road game. A strong run game will wear down the defense and provide even more opportunities for us. We cannot leave our D on the field too long. Granted the penalties kept them out there too long last night. That must get better.

I would love to see one of other other RBs step up (like Feagin or Laughery). McCray was not where I hoped he would be and Love was ok. We cannot continue to have our QB as our leading rusher.

My prediction:

ILLINOIS 31
KANSAS 28

Just win!

We know nothing other than Altmyer is the real deal. Let’s throw it out there and see what happens. #allwhiteillini

Our two toughest games of the first six are in week #2 (@KU) and week #3 (PSU). We will definitely play better than we did in the opener, but will it be good enough to win our first difficult road test of the season. The realist in me says NO. We really need better LINE play on both sides of the ball.

KU -- 34
ILL -- 28

Kansas covers.

(I'm turning pessimist, but if the Illini do happen to win, it will make this coming weekend's road trip all the more enjoyable! I really want a shot at Penn State in week #3 with both teams 2-0 and ranked in the Top 25!)

Unless more top 30 teams lose next week, even with a win at Kansas, I doubt Illini jump in top 25 for Penn State game (it could be close though).

I am more optimistic for this game. I feel like tougher competition will have Illini in better position than Kansas. Illini might not win, but I will take 3 or 4 points most books are giving currently.

First road game of the year. Haven’t beaten a non-conference P5 team on the road in 16 years. Night game. Stud quarterback.

I see a Kansas win and cover:

31-20

But - I feel like our game against PSU will be very close.

Hate that we travel and they get an extra day of rest. Game comes down to our lines, if they play like we think they can we win, if they play like they did against Toledo we lose.

We can win this game but we can't do it if we only rush three all day in passing situations. Even an average quarterback can pick you apart with no real pressure and all the time in the world. Daniel's is rated the best qb in the big12. We have to keep him off balance and running for his life. We should be sending people after him early and often. Rushing the quarterback with three should only be done if they are getting home or just to change it up once in awhile. This is how we should come at every team we play. I believe we have one of the best defensive backfields in the big10 but we can't expect them to bail us out all year. The coaching staff needs to make sure we are pressuring the quarterbacks consistently no matter how they have to do it.

I love our Illini, but I figured out Saturday we are basically very young and not a bunch of snap together as units.
Kansas is old and have 2 seasons under their belt. I hope I'm wrong, but have my doubts going to KU.

Just looking at the stats from last year I'm hoping Daniel's is not 100% for this game because he is dangerous. Accurate passer, 18td to only 4 ints, and can do some running.
