I get the math but to heck with that. Make a statement. So we need to win by 1
That Michigan game was pure fun and the lowest my blood pressure has been this season.

Or win safely (not sure this board can handle such a tight game) and hope they beat NW and IU at home and win one of their road games at Rutgers or Penn State. Of course, a Maryland win at Wisconsin would certainly drive them up.So we need to win by 1
How quickly people forget about the Tyler underwood experience midway through the first half.He is. Brad knows he is....BRad put the freshman in for him as a get your head out of your you know what. That's all it is....coaches do this all the time. Brads done it a ton in his 6+ seasons here.
Which is why Brad wants to send him a message to get things together.Sure hope that's not the reason. Harmon is an asset IMO.
We switched less against Michigan. More fighting through ball screens. As Brad said you are going to get clipped in the ball screen fight through it and recover like Trent, Andres, Monte did.Maybe it was my imagination, but did we blitz a ball screen against Michigan? Could we mix more of that into our defense going forward? Coleman certainly has the foot speed to blitz and recover.
Tough pass but rather see that than a lazy pass, traveling, stepping out of bounds, moving screen, etc. If he connected, easy two points.
I don't want to disagree with BU, but I think the most devastating open court player in college basketball ought to be leaking out on the break at every opportunity rather than staying back to crash the boards on an already great rebounding team.Interesting comment on TSJ rebounding by Brad
Good Morning, Illini Nation: What more could Terrence Shannon Jr. do?
Illinois guard nearly hit his career high Tuesday night against Michigan, but Illini coach Brad Underwood keeps asking for morewww.news-gazette.com
Given TSJ size and athleticism he could get more. TSJ is getting 4.2 rbg in 33 minutes
Luke gets 4.3 rbg in just 20 minutes but you see him fighting on every play

We were 8th in the country defensively this year before TJ was out and that was with the switching everything style....Looking at Kenpom, right now this is our worst defense ranking-wise since the 18-19 season.
Any reason why we changed our defensive philosophy so drastically from what has proven to work in the B1G? I understand that our roster makeup means we can be one of the few teams in the country to switch everything, but we also do have the dawgs who can fight through screens (TSJ, Harmon). Why go away from what has worked well for several seasons....?
Just curious because IMO switching everything on defense is fine and all (especially against great outside shooting teams) but once it's scouted out....can be abused indefinitely against us to get the opponent's preferred matchup on the weaker defender (has happened to us several times this year since early December).
We didn't have Shannon last game. Will he guard Young? We need to either slow Young or Reese down. Are they gonna go balls out on stopping Young? He's the one real threat to go nuts and keep them competitive in a low scoring game. It was just too darn easy for him last game.

Personally don't think we have the "dawgs who can fight through screens" as much this year. It's not all about being dawgs... it's also about physically being smaller/able to squeeze through tighter spaces. Trent was elite at that because he was quick, slim, and had the conditioning and work ethic. Our guys now might have the work ethic, but they're larger for their position for the most part (Domask, TJ, Rodgers)Looking at Kenpom, right now this is our worst defense ranking-wise since the 18-19 season.

The article literally quotes BU as saying "defensive rebounds"I think Brad meant on the offensive glass.
Rebounds are a highly positional stat and have large diminishing returns. Terrence plays a bunch of his minutes with either Ty or Quincy or both and they grab a bunch of the rebounds. I've seen Brad mention this about Terrence but I think his rebounding is fine.Interesting comment on TSJ rebounding by Brad

Some times we go small ball with Luke, Coleman, Justin, Marcus and TSJ. In this lineup TSJ needs to help more on the boards as niether Luke or Marcus are big leapers.Rebounds are a highly positional stat and have large diminishing returns. my recollection from listening to presser after the game: I 'heard' offensive rebounds since he mentioned or implied putbacks and/or getting fouled. The article literally quotes BU as saying "defensive rebounds"
Rebounding is almost entirely about effort. There are balls to be rebounded all over the place -- near the rim and on out to the three point line. Going after the ball involves moving your feet (like on defense), anticipation (like an outfielder in baseball, you can get really really good at reading shot trajectories and playing the odds on resulting carom direction), and willingness to battle physically. It's about want to.Rebounds are a highly positional stat and have large diminishing returns.
