Will be in Minneapolis this coming weekend. Seriously thinking about finding a polka festival or a lutefisk eating competition or, really, anything else besides this game. Watching us lay down against Rutgers this week was about enough Illini football for awhile.

The good news first: I'm red hot with my football predictions this season!

The bad news? Three of those predictions follow below:

A) 2-10 season record (still looking highly likely)
B) 34-24 loss vs. Rutgers
C) I'll leak this one early........yes, I'm predicting another loss next week vs. MN. Haven't yet decided on the score

Very winnable. Take them one at a time.

Climb the ladder. No, that's not fair. This will be right. Just probably not this year. We need to support this team now. I can't be at any games, but I would if I could. Fans in the stands are the "12th man."

Or everyone can stay away, especially when potential recruits can see what kind of support the team gets.

Nothing would make me happier this season than us putting a hole in their row boat Saturday.

Just want to see more individual improvement from the freshman. Who is the next Isaiah Gay, Bobby Roundtree, Mike Epstein, and Ricky Smalling to give the glimpse into the future? That is what I watch for, so while everyone else is pissed about losing, I’m stoked that Ricky Smalling is winning most if not all of the 50/50 balls thrown his way.

I think we should open up with the pass to setup the run. George is making strides and can move better then I thought. Just needs to work on accuracy and placement on the out routes. Let Smalling,Green,Dorsey, and Turner loose. Turner needs more targets.

Disagree. He is consistently wild and displays poor decision making. That being said, George is the best option the Illini have if they are so stubbornly holding onto Cam Thomas' redshirt. George is a freaking turnover machine and that isn't likely to change.

I for one will be dialed in 100% for this game.

Minnesota just played a brutal hard hitting game with Michigan State and they looked banged up

Did he not have a BEAUTIFUL catch this weekend? Very talented kid. I'm glad he got some longer balls from GJr. Hope to see a lot more.

What are you basing this being a very winnable game?

I think it's winnable because Minnesota just hasn't been that impressive. Brian Barnhart mentioned correctly I believe that we see a lot of good things happening but not at the same time. If they put it all together, who knows. So nothing specific but if we limit the picks, I think we can do some damage.

If we run away from punts we don't catch, it might be a closer game. I don't mean to be harsh, but that was a metaphor for Saturday's game. We seemed to be doing everything we could to give away that game.

really hope it's Cam Thomas time... otherwise not much reason to watch

Agree. Without much to go on other than 2 camp practices, I can only say that Cam Thomas has a fluidity to his running, a glide, and a quickness about him that no other QB has. Some have said he's not as good a runner as Scheelhaase, but I disagree.

His arm is stronger than I anticipated, and he flicks the ball out so amazingly on the run. With two QB coming in next year, with the full court press on for Isaiah Williams in the following year, there just isn't any need to preserve this kid's redshirt.

The game reps he could have this fall will make everything he does in the offseason more sticky.

Lovie previews Minnesota

Lovie: Turned the ball over too many times on offensive side of ball.

Lovie: Defense got takeawys, but we lost the battle up front on both sides of the ball.

Lovie: Mike Dudek is "banged up." Didn't finish the game. "We'll see how that goes."

Lovie: Watson banged up. Both guys have knee injuries. Julian Jones left with knee injury. Shogbonyo and Phillips have shoulders

Lovie: Minnesota has lost 3 games in a row. They can't wait to try to get on the winning track.

Lovie: A Big Ten win on the road would mean a lot for our confidence.

Lovie: James Crawford and Ricky Smalling were bright spots. But we need more.

Lovie: When injuries happen, it's the next guy up. Once the season starts, there's no waiver wire.

Lovie: They just beat us up front. They pushed us off the ball.

Lovie: Roundtree and Gay playing like everyone else on our team right now. Younger players aren't playing as well.

Lovie: No thought of playing Cam Thomas. "Guys we played are the guys we thought would help us win."

Lovie: Minnesota has a lot of same personnel we played last year. Also playing WMU, we're familiar with their schemes.

Lovie: When you don't play well, you got to improve. Simple as that. Can't worry about feelings. When you play bad, should feel bad

Lovie: You tell recruits you have an opportunity to play. You're pitching the team when they're there.

Lovie: Hopefully they saw (playing time) from some of the positions (on Saturday). That's why Smalling & Roundtree came here

This was in response to a question about Corbin: Lovie: In order to get more carries sometimes, you need to have a better start.

Lovie: You need leaders when you have a group as young as we do. Nick Allegretti is in that role for us.

Lovie: Allegretti going to fight you until the end. That has to be good for young players, OL to see daily.

Lovie: We would like to be a balanced team. When we pass that much, we need to, we have to.

Garrick McGee made it pretty clear Reggie Corbin didn’t play due to his early chop block that cost a big play to Dudek inside the 10.

While I would love for this to be the game in which the collective light bulb clicks on in the young Illini brains and they put it all together, until I see an indication of that happening I will continue to pick them to be blown out. For the third week in a row they play a conference opponent desperate for their first league win. Minnesota 40, Illinois 14.

Um, no Illinois/Illini logo on that shirt Lovie was wearing at the press conference.

You have to look really close. It's a white block I on a white shirt.

It'd be nice to pick up a surprise win these last few games, but I'm just hoping they keep fighting.

Doubt they're as banged up as we are and certainly not as banged up as Rutgers. Rutgers was letting anyone with a pulse play defense cause they didn't have enough bodies.

But, yeah, I'll be going to the game. Looking forward to watching this staff turn this all the way around and a conference road win would really help morale. Despite the fact that Fleck said Minny was 3 minutes away from being undefeated or something equally Beckman-inine, they really aren't much better than us. And if 'Cuse can beat Clemson...
