True. It’s also hard to compare because the 3 point line didn’t exist until Altenberger’s senior year. Guards start practicing 3 pt shooting in grade school now.

Regardless, if he continues at his current pace many, including me, will likely consider Plummer the best 3 point shooter we’ve ever seen at Illinois. His consistency is what has surprised me the most. I thought he’d be more of a streak shooter a la Trent.

And it's not just the % or consistency...it's the type of shot he gets off..with that consistency and %. In the same mold as Curry and others who have revolutionized the game. They just pull up out of nowhere with minimal space...and still rip.

His mid range shot ain't too shabby either

Definitely not expecting a blowout, but I don’t think Minny is as good as their record indicates.

Regardless, having a few guys come off of COVID protocol (whether they had symptoms or not) will suck and may require some minutes to shake the rust off.

Plus the barn is a tough place to play when fans are there.

I’m just glad we get to play the game!

I will not disagree with this. But my FAVORITE three-point shooter was Matt Heldman. I sometimes felt like I was watching a 4th grader heave them from his chest six feet behind the three-point line.

Have yet to see another player with that jackknife form since!

Matt Heldman could shoot the rock, handle the ball like few I’ve seen and didn’t miss at the free throw line. One of my favorite players ever! I can’t think of any other guard I would want to have the ball at the end of a game.

Does the extra “week off” potentially help with Curbelo missing 1 or 2 less games? I would think after this game/week we will need to get a real update on his status for the rest of the season.

Glad we are back at it tomorrow BUT this game worries me.
We have not played in 2 weeks and many of our guys dealing with Covid and coming back from Covid.
This will be a difficult game.

Am I the only one that feels like this is a trap game? Going to Minny where it will be butt numbing cold, in a place that's hard to win in. On top of that, some of our guys have been sick, and all of their practice time has been disrupted..... Not saying we will lose. Just not expecting a blowout like last year.

It's a good thing we play the game indoors so the cold won't matter.

But The Barn's drafty. It's one reason why the floor's raised... so it's a bit closer to the warmth of the lights.
I didn't know that was the reason. I figured it had to do with throwing off the perception for teams that weren't used to it.

I've always assumed it was in the hopes of injuring opposing players not used to such a dangerous configuration. Frankly, I'm surprised that someone hasn't broken his neck diving for a loose ball at the baseline over the years. (To my knowledge, at least, no one has been permanently disabled.) I've seen some nasty spills, however, including one of our guys when Self was coach, IIRC.

It's actually a very cool arena, one of the classics. As I recall (it has been more than 30 years since I visited) that floor is raised roughly three feet. The opposite end of the building (a wall separates the two arenas) was for many decades the Gophers' hockey arena before they built a freestanding one across the street. It's now used for volleyball and such sports, I believe.

Isn't the idea of a trap game that it comes before a big game that the team may be looking ahead to? Maryland at home doesn't seem to fit the bill.

I was at a game in 2012 I believe. Was there on business so I got a ticket and was careful not to wear any Illinois identifying gear. Seated at the end of the arena in the nosebleed section. Suddenly just to my right as the game was about to start about 200 Orange Crush members ripped off their jackets to expose Illini Orange. Don't recall much about the game except the Crush were there.

I did that as part of Krush, but it was in 2007/8/9 (don't recall exactly which year).

I take it the social media posts this morning indicate confidence that we will be able to play?
