The Illini will roll through the Shuckers like a shiny new 2026 Massey Ferguson combine through a ripe plot of field corn. The Illini by 10, pulling away at the end.

Dragging around the anchor of a 10 game win streak, without Boswell, on short rest, heading on the road to play a top 5 team with much more rest and getting players back as they bounce back from their first loss?

If we win this game we are a dang WAGON
With a couple of extra days to prepare, I expect Fred Hoiberg to design his defense to take the ball out of Keyton’s hands. Easier said than done, of course.
The rest of the team has to be ready to take advantage of mismatches and open shooters. Nebraska has been very good at recovering off of traps, so taking care of the ball will be critical. They force a lot of turnovers.
Hope we can get Tomi down low to score on mismatches and draw fouls in their bigs. Seeing the ball go through the hoop may increase his confidence on pick and pops, too.

Tyler has no idea how to use bigs inside.

I’m such a sicko. I’ve been rewatching our first game vs Nebraska since late last night and finished it today. The game winner had the clock with .2 seconds left and we just inbound the ball to Wagler for a meaningless heave. I watched it in slow motion and the ball went through the net with at least .4 left. We had 2 timeouts left. I can’t believe we didn’t call one and make the refs check the clock. If would have been enough time for a catch and shoot. Obviously we would’ve needed a miracle to send it to OT but it was possible. Andrej going to be a huge key to this game. Mirk was a no show last time and I don’t expect that to happen this time. Wagler gotta continue the year he’s been on. We will miss Kylan a lot in this game. Of course they might be down 1 or 2 players as well. No stupid tech this game on Z please. Tomi didn’t score until the late 3 that tied the game. I think he could have a big game if they trap Wagler. We took a lot of bad shots early in the shot clock the first half last time and if led to easy transition points for them. I think this team is going to be very hungry for revenge. I think I’d be more nervous if we had won the first game. This team has grit and we’re going to need a lot of it on Sunday to win.
I remember thinking the same thing about the clock situation, but I also thought Jake Davis had a shot clock violation before his 3 at Purdue. I could be wrong, but I think the shot clock on TV isn't always aligned with the stadium one.

That’s why it’s so key the other guys hit their open shots. They will have plenty of looks if the opponent focuses on Wagler. I trust his decision making skills.

Don't know nuthin. But I know Nebraskie is very good; Illinoise gotta be very gooder by just one lousy point.

Can do.

Nebby shot 46% from deep and 52% overall last time around. Jake, Drej, Mirk and Ben are going to need to be closing out hard and not ball watching.

Going to need to work on fighting through double screens and hard hedges. The five out, pace and space gave us a lot of trouble last time around.

I think their weakness is in their ball handling. They really only have a few guys who can get their own shot off the dribble. If we can hard hedge Hoiberg and Lawrence and have good defensive rotations, we will fare better. Force Pryce Buyuktuncel or Mast to drive the ball and our length will give them problems.
Hard hedges aren't our strong suit.

Nebraska loss delayed our rise to get in the mix for a #1 seed, so it's fitting that beating them now will probably get us to a #1 in a lot of projections.

I thought Kylan would be in the mix for B1G POTY at this point, but Keaton is definitely in that mix.

Posted this right after nebby loss, I guess it sounded crazy to many;

Believe it or not, it really isn’t that crazy to me. That game just had so many weird aspects not go our way. Yes, the win at Mackey was unexpected and massive, but all we’ve really done up to this point is take care of business against teams we’re better than. Not sure what people expected… go .500 in league play? The nauseating doom and gloom comments will always present that attitude.

Yes, the Keaton part is absolutely crazy, no denying that. But in terms of team success - I think we’re right where we belong.

The Tennessee pregame thread after our UConn loss was pretty rough

Need to make threes and take care of the ball. Nebraska floods driving lanes as much as anyone.

In all honesty, nothing concerns me offensively as long as we have Keaton Wagler.
