We will be fine.
We had trouble with Wake b/c we couldn't effectively drive with a chance to finish at the rim vs. the two 7 footers, forcing us to live and die outside.

NW cannot do that to us.

Expect a lot more dribble/drive vs NW, and expect a 7-10 pt victory.

ILL

But if they play a zone, dribble drive is tougher. NU will probably play some zone so hopefully they bring their outside shooting to Rosemont.

Underwood previews Northwestern

Underwood: Really good practice yesterday. Talked to the team at length about self-inflicted things that hurt us vs. Wake.

Underwood: They scored 12 points on fouls we committed in the backcourt. Then you include 19 turnovers, those are things we can really control.

Underwood: I loved our fight. I loved our competitive spirit. I loved our composure when they made their run.

Underwood: I was pleased with what our bench did when Michael was on the bench.

Underwood: A lot of teaching moments in that game. This is a young team. We've got to quit the silly fouls. Talked a lot about that.

Underwood: I loved our practice yesterday. The one thing that keeps giving me really good feel-good moments is that we don't have to beg them to do extra work. watch film. Very committed.

Underwood: There were some guys that were hurt in that locker room on Tuesday. I like that. That means we're invested in each other & what it takes to win.

Underwood: Early minutes of the game on Tuesday was what our offense can be. Small dose of what scoring under 7 seconds can be like.

Underwood: Northwestern is well-coached. Schematically, they're very skilled on the offensive end. You can tell this is a veteran team.

Underwood: If you look at where our turnovers came against the zone, came in the high post and in the short corner. If you keep getting the ball there, I'll take that every time. Have no problem with our offense against the zone.

Underwood: Spend as much time or more thinking about who's coming off my bench. Don't care about who starts a game. Want production off my bench. Try to find a balance.

Thinking of grabbing a few tickets and dragging the wife to the game. She had fun at her (and mine) first Illini football game last weekend. It won't be my first Illini basketball game (I was at the '05 game vs. Arizona), but yea it's been a while. I figure it'll be a good crowd and atmosphere, Palatine isn't a far drive to the Allstate, so why not? It'll be cool to see a basketball game there with an actual college basketball feel to it. I've been to many DePaul games there where it seemed there were about 500 people there and you could hear a pin drop.

So excited for game tomorrow night! All I want from Santa is an Illini victory against Northwestern (and an NCAA berth this year)

That feels a little to me like "I want a tie" and "oh yeah, a Hugo Boss suit, too"
But I want the same.

The first one, you may get in your stocking. I'd say 50/50.

The second gift...I'd say cross that one off the list. I'd revise it and ask for competitive games vs Michigan State, Minnesota and the majority of our games on the road.

A good :illinois:following will surely help the team, and glad they had great practice. This game will again show us more to where we are at. Ready for a good defensive game, look for us to be prepared for zone, but hope to see offense in full force. Big difference with this trip, we won't be going to Welsh-Ryan , which has always made it tough to win.

We get off to a good start, shoot ball from perimeter, drive and dish against zone, stay out of stupid fouls, we win. They won't roll over, so the best game of the year will be needed. All being said, and things fall in place,

That's a mixing slogans violation. Basket counts and a foul called on #43.

Upon further review there really wasn't any violations committed so count the 3pt basket...give the ball to NW under their basket...and charge the Illini with a TO...just because the officiating crew thinks that would be better than actually following the rules:D

Really hope for nw we have a couple more zone sets ready. We run a couple pick and roll sets but I think nw will be ready for those when they go zone. If I’m any team playing us right now I’m going into the game planning to play about 75% zone.

me too, except I would put the planning number at 100%.

Vegas-Illini +6

I wonder how much emphasis is put on home and away. This is a unique situation to the computer because the road team will probably have the majority of the crowd in a neutral court conference game. So i would question that with a 6 point dog.

This is a game the Illini certainly can win but it will be tough. I think the awful level of competition they have played besides Wake Forest is a factor going into the Big season. If you want to get better you at least need to play a couple teams that are close to tournament caliber. This years non conference schedule is the worst I can remember an Illini team ever playing and if they end up near the bubble at the end of the season will probably be what keeps them out of the Big Dance

At 7 now...What do you guys think of that?

I think Vegas is giving us the same points they thought we should have won by at WF after seeing the game.

However, the next WF game, the line is +7 for the referees.

It means that an awful lot of people subscribe to BTN2go and BTN and have seen our poor zone offense and below average on the ball defense.

I guess what I mean is do you like the Illini getting 7 or do you see this as a game where it is close but in the end NW wins by double digits?
