I can easily see this being a 38 point spread by game time

Overall....I've been somewhat happy with the improved play in the Illinois defense this season. Offense however, not good. Thus.....

OSU 45

The main thing is that no one else gets injured. That is the best IL football can hope for.

What I was thinking.

I wonder what, as Lovie, you would do about now? Maybe everyone get the Orange and Blue Flu and forfeit?

On the other hand, Lovie does bear some resemblance to Louis Armstrong. Maybe our guys will go to Columbus and refuse to bow down to king, and wind up dancing in the fiery furnace like Meshach, Shadrach and Abednigo. Keep the faith. https://youtu.be/6r1baNdgImo

Maybe an enterprising soul can figure out a way to give the entire Ohio State team severe lower gastrointestinal tract distress the morning of the game?

The Line opens Ohio State -38.5 as a Chalk.

Ohio State is a wounded dog- The Penn State hangover at Iowa sent shock waves. They rebounded nicely with a trouncing of a good Michigan State team.

I do not see Illinois scoring one point in this game on offense. Our Offensive line is paper thin and the QB is usually running for his life. Injuries abound for this Mash Unit of Proud players.

To be a underdog by 38.5 points in any game is reality check but to be faced with Ohio State next week is really going to put our Freshmen class in a tough position with a chance at some great experience.

The Buckeyes have no choice but to run up score to try and impress the selection committee the Lovely Iowa win sealed their fate and they know it.

Will Urban Meyers take is foot off the gas vs Lovie Smith ?

Lovie: We are improving. Not good enough to win. Looking for small steps.

Lovie: Some areas have improved but not enough. When you can't run the football, it's tough duty.

Lovie: Louis Dorsey and Ricky Smalling stepped up. Front seven did well.

Lovie: When you get into 17-14 game, have to get over the hump.

Lovie: We're a little banged up. Should get some players back this week and could lose some.

Lovie: I used to have hair (when I was at Ohio State). Didn't have grandkid when I was there. You know when you're there, it's a traditional program.

Lovie: Urban Meyer has been a good football coach. He has had a lot of good players. He's an excellent football coach.

Lovie: Offensively, JT Barrett is a mobile QB who can throw it.

Lovie: Defensively, Ohio State is great up front.

Lovie: Record says where you are as a program. As you look deeper, our program is in a lot better shape than what it was.

Lovie: We've had a lot of young guys play. Safe to say it's trending up. We're taking steps. Eventually we'll get over the hump

Lovie: Recruiting is going well, just like it was last year. Our future is looking bright on and off the field.

Lovie: You always have a list of people at every position you're looking at. I have an idea of what direction we're going to go.

Lovie: You always have a list of people at every position you're looking at. I have an idea of what direction we're going to go. This was in reference to 10th assistant spot

Asked #illini Lovie Sminth how important college or NFL experience is: Said he just needs to be a good coach and recruiter.

Lovie: James Kirkland "has meant a lot" to the staff. I've been in draft rooms with him. I knew what we were getting from him. Love what he, Pat Embleton and Nate McNeal have done behind the scenes.

Lovie: "It's not looking really good" for Dudek to come back. "Probably not, but we'll see."

I live in Columbus and could probably go to the game, but I think I'll pass. It will be bad enough watching the game with friends. Well at least the beer will be real close.

Anybody home?
What's the report on Cam? Can he play? What's the protocol on college concussions? I don't really think he should play even if they give him the O.K.

One of my wife’s students had a concussion playing field hockey (Div II) and was out for a long time. Recovery can be slow and unpredictable. Cheers.

Asked about the Illini:

URBAN MEYER: Their defensive line is really good. That's one area that -- and obviously today is Monday, we're right, knee deep watching them. I've not watched their offense yet like I normally -- just don't have any answers for you on offense.

But defensive line catches your attention and they're penetrators and they're big dudes, 310 pounds and 290, the other guy. But the defensive line catches your eye as a strength.

I wouldn't be opposed to running the football on every down. Keep the clock running to avoid a massive blowout, wear out their defense, and run some option with Chayce and the RBs.

Who knows, maybe we could pull a Georgia Southern from when they went into the Swamp and beat UF without completing a pass. :D

At worst that strategy would keep the game within 35 points by chewing up clock.

I'm sure the defense will tire quickly. Penetrating 5 yards deep in our backfield and making the tackle down after down would wear anyone out. :D

Being kind. Our guys aren't there...yet. Ohio State will just put them in a meat grinder and make that four or five yards every play, just like everyone else has. Well, that's not really fair. The guys have held when they've had to, but we haven't had the havoc in the backfield that we were promised.

And what would you say about Illinois offense if you were Meyer? "We're going to score two every time Illinois gets the ball?" That would be a little tacky.

Jeez, I hate talking about our team like this. I hate moral victories, but I really hate getting blown out. I'll be happy to beat the spread on Saturday.
