I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried about this game. It has trap game written all over it. I refuse to believe OSU is as bad as they have shown in Big Ten play. I'm also keeping the same starting 5, Dain and Epps are too important for us.

OSU had lost three straight games by 17 points or more and 8 straight overall heading into last night's game against Penn State. They then played fairly well against PSU, but still managed to lose a second half lead at home in the final 5 minutes, making it 9 losses in a row.

I can't imagine how the Buckeyes or their fans get inspired for a noon Sunday start. If we've ever seen a team just ready for the season to be over, it's this one. Trap game or not, it would be inexcusable to lose to a team this broken right now. Not impossible mind you, but inexcusable.

Hopefully the fact that the Illini have not won a road game in nearly a month will have the team fired up to end the roadkill drought after some close calls at Iowa and IU.

I think Dain and Epps should still be the starters for sure, especially with Zed Key out for the year. Although TSJ should obviously be back starting for RJ. Although RJ has earned more playing time too.

Agreed. And Dain and Epps having bad nights was purely a function of what Northwestern does: moving screens and doubling the post really, really well. There's no reason for either of them not to start against OSU, at least that I see.

They've really not been the same since Key got injured the first time around. They don't have anything in the post and it's shown -- only one of their last nine opponents has shot less than 50% from inside the arc, and Key's FG% was almost 70% before he got hurt and has been 46% since so it's kind of unsurprising that he's been shut down. We should be able to make some serious hay in the paint, hopefully that will be enough.

I also forgot to mention it's our 4th game in 9 days. It would still be pretty inexcusable to lose though.

Late season Sunday game at tOsu. Anyone else have that memory rise up like a bad burrito? Preventative dosage of antacid required.

We need to start Dain and get him going at all costs. He needs to be primed and ready for Little Dickinson and Eddy in the two games that follow.
I think Dain feasts against OSU and gets his Sunday.

But...

I have nothing to back this other than a belly full of beer, but I'm feeling CoHawk against Dickinson and Dain against Edey. Hawkins will be better able to chase Dickinson, while we'll need Dain to bang with Edey.

My only fear is that with the game being at Purdue, Edey is gonna get all the home cooking he wants and we're going to end to having to throw Hawkins and Serven at him

I agree. I think Dain needs a get right game after some frustrations against Indiana and NW in particular and this is the roster to do it against. A healthy Key would've been an interesting matchup. As it is, I just want us to bring that junkyard dog defense again Sunday. We have the physicality to be a ridiculous defense, we've all seen it in multiple big time games. Weirder things have certainly happened, but I think we're gonna throttle them. On their court. Like historically coach firingly bad.

Sure would like to see Lieb get some time against Edey just so he can put it on his resume. Don't care how he does, just want to have some video in the libraray for future reference so Lieb can show his kids and grandkids and as a reward for sticking with the program. Is it too much too ask?

I imagine this game will be closer than anyone is happy with. I doubt it will be a blowout.

Road games in the B1G rarely are.

Also, I fear all the games stacked like they have been may take a toll.
The only reason I'm not afraid of this is the rumor floating around that there's something off in OSU's locker room. (I have no details, just heard it in passing on the Big Ten Sirius XM station). They're too talented to be playing like this. There has to be something more.

Then again, they're a caged animal and we're coming off a huge comeback win against a team that spanked us earlier. This could turn out poorly.

One of their pivotal playerr is out.
Possible Dissension in the locker room

Coach may be on the hot seat.

They may have packed it in for the season.

They give up a lot of points in the paint which is our particular strength

We have good depth. Somebody is tired, not feeling it, taking the night off we people ready to play.

I’m gonna counter that this game time is ideal.

1. Set your DVR
2. Go to church
3. Stay off social media
4. Come home and watch the entire game with no commercials

You get to keep your priorities (church over sports) and you don’t have watch commercials. My service ends around 1130 and I get home around 1140. With a 30-40 minute head start in college basketball, you’re back to live by the last couple minutes or at worst like 5 minutes behind (the game ends for you 5 minutes after it ends in real time).

For anyone wondering, to accomplish the same timing with college football, you need about 45 minutes to an hour. This is the only way I watch sports now.

Sounds familiar…
OSU is an even more extreme version of us this year. They had only 3 returning players. 7 freshmen & a few transfers.
Talented, for sure, but to this point little continuity or chemistry. At some point things could start to click.
Hopefully we come out with some intensity to start, but we tend to be “mild mannered Bruce Banner” in the first half & have to go all “Hulk Smash” in the second.

Could not agree more. Need to come out strong, throwing haymakers and hopefully crush them mentally in the first half. Would be nice to not need to expend so much energy in the second half for a W.

Make sure you record the next show after the game too. Nothing worse than finding out you missed the last five minutes of a game cause it went into the next show
