Been giving this game a lot of thought as it is the game in between usc and osu , and purdont has played us tough as evidenced by last years near fiasco..........but we should handle them as long as we contain their QB1 and not let him scrabble for big rushing yards....

From what I've gathered , their defense is suspect and we should see a lot gains by our offense and numerous scores......I have to believe that we win the turnover totals and therefore I predict.............................

Illini 48
p-dont 24

I guarantee that BB has stressed to the Illini that this is another 1 game opportunity and we will not be overconfident about this game.....It would not surprise me to find out that he showed film of last years second half to remind the lads of what is possible anytime in any football game..........JMHO.....

You make an !!! out of u and me
During a film session in high school, I made a mistake - can't remember what it was. But my coach replayed it a few times and asked me what I was thinking. I started with, "Well, I assumed..." This was a bigger mistake than the one I made in the game.

He said, "You know what happens when you assume, right?"

To which I responded, "Yes, it makes an a$$ out of you and me." This was my biggest mistake yet.

He then screamed, "NO! IT MAKES AN A$$ OUT YOU! NO ONE MAKES AN A$$ OUT OF ME!"

For those that need that refs to be part of the football experience, here's the crew for tomorrow's game:

- Tim O'Dey, head referee
- Has worked 3 games in BB era, Illinois is 2-1. Mich '24 (W), Purdue '23 (L), Ind '23 (W)
- In those game, his crew called 29 penalties against Illinois, and 16 against opponents
- Notably, against big brand Michigan last year, penalties were even, 6-6
- Against Indiana last year, Illinois was called for a whopping 14 penalties, to 7 for Indiana

This year the O'Dey crew has worked Old Dominion @ Indiana, FIU @ PSU, USC @ Purdue and Wash @ Wash St

Looks like O'Dey became a head referee in '23, having worked up from the MAC. O'Dey is from Nebraska and a Nebraska alum

Speaking of refs, there is no bigger POS than Bill Lemonnier. He would consistently give his alma mater, Michigan, calls all the time. How the Big 10 allowed an alum to ref a game is beyond me. His calls in the 2000 Michigan-Illinois game were egregious.

To this day, when they bring in that clown as a ref commentator I yell at the TV.

And that game is largely the reason we now have replay in college football. Its hard to miss the irony when they bring him in to comment on a replay.

I have used colorful language to refer to him more than once when they show him on those replay calls.

I'm thinking similar. Each passing week with Bret I become less concerned about us just not showing up for a game. Yes we have our bad stretches (or whole games at IU), but we tend to come out with a competent game plan and don't just completely pull a no show as Illinois made famous in bygone eras.

Also, I suspect that IU beatdown is the kind of thing that has a long lasting impact in terms of maintaining focus. I mean you didn't lose by 10, you lost by 53 freakin points. That should prevent getting over confident for a long time.

I quite frankly have not seen much of Purdue. However, what I have seen from the offensive side is that they can throw the ball pretty well.

At least our guys will be used to it:

- West Lafayette tomorrow: 84
- Durham on September 6 against Duke: 94
- Champaign on September 13 against WMU: 93
^^^ WMU was a night game, but was 93 at kick off, mid 80s by the end of the game.
- Champaign on September 27 against USC: 88

So this will be one of our nicest weather games of the year!

In Bloomington it was 82 and humid at the 7:30 pm kickoff. I was sweating long before the blocked punt.
