Illinois will finish this last stretch 6-0 and win the B1G outright. Rutgers will get beat down again by 25. The only concerning game is against scUM, since Dickinson has been hot from 3 recently and will give Kofi some problems.

I'm knocking on wood to make sure this happens, but man it's going to be tough to finish this last 6-0. Purdue got bounced with their road game against scUM.

It also leads eventually to a pick and roll action where all the defenders are already in motion and worried about following their man and not as able to help on the roll. If the defense isn't dialed in the weave is almost always going to lead to an open look. BU has talked about it numerous times that the more actions and the more the ball moves sides the more likely the defense will break down.

It just really confuses me that people complain about the weave because they get soooo many good looks out of it. I would love to see the numbers but I bet they're really high which is why they keep running it.
People only remember the games when teams blitz the handoffs and mess up the timing, so that it doesn't look very good. To be fair I can name a few games over the last couple of years where we stuck to that action too long when it wasn't working, and some of them were high profile games like Baylor and Loyola. I'm guessing that's where the negative feelings come from. I've seen other college and NBA teams using it this season and it worked fine for them too.

This has little to do with Rutgers but I don't care. About 50 minutes before game time Sunday, Chet comes out of the dressing room and walks up to Coleman Hawkins who is shooting around, they talk for a minute and then just the 2 of them walk to the other end. For the next 20 minutes just the 2 of them work on pick and pops and slip screens with Chet stopping every few minutes to talk with CH. CH also rotated in earlier than normal and I believe got 13 minutes.

What I am hoping this means is that CH has looked better in practice recently and has now become coach Frazier's personal project. Let's see what happens at Rutgers.

In their win at Wisconsin, Rutgers was diving all over the place, especially McConnell. That level of effort was rewarded with a victory. We will have to match that intensity.

What they did consistently was run the shot clock down and shot under 5 seconds. They made Wisky defend the entire time, then many times it was a one-on-one play. Our half-court defense is good enough to withstand that approach, so I wonder if they will run out in transition and shoot quickly, even if ill-advised at times.

Also, as mentioned by earlier posters, we have KOFI. Omoruyi will have 2 fouls in the first 5 minutes. He reaches and swipes. They may play him with 2 fouls because they have to, but I think Kofi goes for 27 pts and 11 reb. Plus, the King has his performance against NW in his mind. You could see his disappointment in the presser afterwards. He'll come ready. Look out Cliff.

Illini: 82
RU: 74

Agreed. Kofi is a HUGE problem for Rutgers. Stanley Johnson gave Kofi enough trouble for them to nip us at the RAC last year. Stan is on the other coast now...

Let's play two halves this time out. Not just one. Rutgers at home is going to be a heavy load.

Mike Tyson quote. " Everybody has a plan till they get punched in the mouth." We need to get back to punching teams in the mouth. We are playing a little soft, lately

If by lately you mean the last 60 minutes of basketball, sure, but I remember just 9 days ago giving Indiana quite the punch in the mouth on their own floor… how quickly we let one or two bad halves of basketball overshadow the rest.

I agree with BU in his post-game presser. Hawkins looked very good last game.

He was not sensational by any means --- but he was calm and under control. His one weak moment was the foul from behind when his man got into the lane, very late in the shot clock. In essence, he let him off the hook.

Thinking he'll be valuable for us again on Wednesday.

I did notice that, when I was looking for our 5 star. I have been predicting Coleman shinning bright any night now all year. So I won't jinx it now but sure am gonna watch for it.

Agree with much of what you say. If you look at the box score of RU at WI, RU had nearly a perfect game. The players played their roles very well ... no hero ball. Omoruyi was effective and had only 2 fouls. Their help defense was outstanding. I think you are right about what Kofi will bring, and I expect an explosion.

I'd like to experiment (for at least one game) with the Bruce Weber offensive scheme from 2005 (with Augie/Kofi getting a minimum of 12 shots/game). We have
comparable outside shooting to that team.

Give me some constant player movement, screens, back doors and lots of excellent passing..........let's try a true offensive set.

When we run the weave, we typically waste 15-18 seconds off the clock and we end up having Trent with the ball up top, with just 12 seconds left on the shot clock.
Please please don't mention Bruce Weber ever again. Don't get me wrong, the 2005 Illini team was outstanding/amazing but that was literally the only highlight of the Weber era. It went to crap right after that.

Your post is giving me horrible flash backs of his inept /awful recruiting , constant whining and throwing hissy fits on live tv, him being BFF (aka best friends forever) with that annoying little twerp Izzo and that voice of his is like nails on a chalkboard (I know that sounds mean and that its not his fault due to a childhood accident ) Look I wish Weber and his family all the best but I am so thankful he isn't our coach anymore (ditto on Groce too. Outstanding hire there to that former AD of ours. Thanks for setting Illinois' bball program back even further down the tube whoever you are. Good riddance to all of them.

Very happy with our new AD Mr Whitman and him hiring Brad Underwood . So thankful Coach Underwood is our coach. Its like night & day compared to those two clowns I mentioned. . Izzo knows this too and it terrifies him (remember when that jerk off called out our beloved program when Weber was fired ? Cause I remember. Hey Izzo you might want to focus on your own dirty program and vet your players/ recruits better too (Sparty has a bit of a "rapey" problem in their 2 biggest money making sports) Oh and 2 words...Larry Nassar. That entire university is a disgrace.

Sorry for the long winded rant but I had to get that off my chest haha. In conclusion, I love where our program is at right now and hope we go into Rutgers place and beat them by 35 points but this time in front of their stupid guido fans

Be careful, I got scolded for calling him “Chet” on this Board last year.

Dude is tough as nails. I’m fully expecting Underwood to casually mention, after the season ends, that Trent has been playing with a chipped vertebrae, four broken toes, a ruptured spleen, and a collapsed lung or something.
honestly it wouldn't surprise me either. My heart immediately sank when he went down to the ground in West Lafayette. I thought the worst but thank the Lord it wasn't a season ending injury. Trent is one of the toughest SOBs to have ever suited up for the Fighting Illini imo.

I, too, like watching a terribly boring brand of basketball that was only really entertaining for one season because of the outstanding cast it had.
