Win the turnover battle, win the game.
Absolutely. Both have some offensive fire power. Neither D is great but Washington is much better at stopping the run. Statistically this game isn't in Illinois' favor given it's on the road.

I hope the Washington Michigan game is physical and goes 12 overtimes. Of course I am for Washington. It would be great for Michigan to get knocked out of playoff contention next week so we would not have to listen to Klatt and others singing their praises. Also maybe Washington will have a few minor injuries going into our game. After we beat them, they are knocked out. Etc. I think you get the picture. Most everyone is not picking us to sniff 10-2. Most of the pundits are picking either USC, Nebraska, Michigan or anyone not named UI. I think we have a real shot to win this game. If so, I really think we win out. Did not feel that way going into O. State.

Just got through listening to Kirk Curbstreet and his bud Joey. They mentioned Michigan, USC, Nebraska and Washington as the possible 4th team. We were kicked out to the curb. Went on to trash the BIG as a whole and lift up the high and mighty SEC. BIAS never stops at ESPN.
I guess Illinois sucks but somehow a loss to Illinois won't hurt USC.

We won at San Diego State in 2002 & at Cal in 2001. SDSU had fallen off by then & Cal in 2001 was awful. Pre Rodgers. Those are the only west coast wins I can recall since 89. And often times we have gotten rolled out west. I do remember Tepper's crew just throwing a game away at Oregon in 1995. Other than that we got smoked by USC in the Rose Bowl, Oregon last year, Arizona in maybe 1996 & Arizona State in Lasagna Boy's first year. All of those were well over by half time.
I remember another screw job by the officials in a late night game against Fresno State, I think Scheelhaase was QB whatever year that was.

that time we played thrm at home in Dec and it was 15 degrees ? we lost on a fluke play

you and about 4,999 other fans were there
No, Illinois played them either the year before or year after that on the road. There was an egregiously horrible spot on a qb sneak by Illinois on a crucial 4th down late in the game.

Heard a song tonight. Who knows this?

‘We’re going to win the game for you,
So get ready, get ready,

In the 80s it will be the orange and blue,
So get ready, get ready!

Cause here we come!’

Ugh! That game still gives me nightmares. Mark Hoekstra threw five interceptions, three of which were Pick Sixes. 😣

I worked at the same company as a guy who was a booster at the time and he said the following Monday Tepper was for sure done. So there was one positive.

I was there in the NEZ for that nonsense deflected two point conversion. Nobody actually saw it happen
Thankfully we were sitting in the Colonnades (another irate fan gave us his tickets) and were able to go inside to warm up. What a miserable freaking game.

It looks like we'll be a 5 to 6 point underdog to Washington - this will move depending on their game against Michigan of course, but the ESPN matchup predictor for example has them as 66% likely to win. USC was about 72% for reference, so line will likely be something similar to the USC game.

This means we are a decided underdog in this one. We'll likely be decently heavy favorites in our last 4 games so this game really will dictate our season.

with win: 10-2 with an outside shot at the CFP playoffs depending on how others fair, but getting a high profile bowl game if not - season clearly a success
with loss: 9-3 and not sniffing the top 25 again, likely not feeling like the season was a success based on expectations going in

The one thing we have going for us is, this team has been a good bounceback team after a poor performance generally. And the 4 key turnovers/mistakes against OSU clearly was a poor performance. Hopefully that is an indicator of a well played game against Washington, we really haven't had a well played game from start to finish yet this year.
9-3 will have us in the top 25 as teams ahead have tough games left. Texas could easily lose 2 more games and the same with Oklahoma. We get to 10-2, we need Michigan to lose an other game or two. USC will lose another game. Would they take a 10-2 USC over a 10-2 Illini team? What if Oregon does the impossible and lose to Rutgers/Iowa or Washington on the road? We still have a clear path to the playoffs after next weekend.
