I agree that Wisconsin seems to have had a favorable schedule. The difference between them and the Illini is that Wisconsin has won the all games they should have won, and only lost to the teams that they probably should have. The Illini MIGHT have 1 win unexpected (@Oregon,) but have lost 4 games they should have won (@NW, vs USC, @NE, @Rutgers, maybe even vs MD.)

I’ve been thinking the same thing.
It’s one thing to adjust and have it not work, but it’s another to not make any adjustments and expect it to work.
On paper, we are the Badgers kryptonite. They like to shoot 3's (and make them) and will punish you at the FT line. We are good at running teams off the 3pt line and we don't send teams to the FT line. Not to mention the fact that Gard is 0-9 against Brad.
That being said, I fully expect us to be playing well and be neck and neck or even leading late in the second half. But at this point we all know the collapse is coming.

IIRC MSU doubled on the ball outside the 3 point line, no matter who had it, mostly KJ or WR. That obviously resulted in at least one open guy but they rarely even tried passing it to them, instead tried to dribble through the double team, over and over again.
We should have treated that like a full court press and broken them when they did that but no...
While this is true, since February 1, we have the 13th worst 3P%D in division 1. So teams are still extremely efficient against us from three.
Also during that time, we are 4th in the country in 2P%. We should shoot more twos maybe.
I couldn't agree more. I honestly think that this is the #1, #2 and #3 issues.
His inability to keep his assistants is troubling. Ultimately, their recruits follow them. This leaves TA and his ties to Morez and Ty. Not having Ty this year has turned into a killer. He was the ultimate glue guy. The premise of him not getting a ton of minutes was his inability to shoot. That's been quite ironic.
Now, losing Morez would be a next level disaster. He's the centerpiece. If he leaves, it'll be a complete rebuild.....again and no continuity...again.
I do wonder if Brad's kid is on staff because 1)it's the internship of a lifetime and 2)he knows he won't have "issues" like he's had with the others. I'm trying to see what value he brings. There has to be an upgrade there, but how do you send your kid packing short of calling in a favor from another coach to take him him on, at a lower level.

I should say, we are good at running certain players off the 3 pt line. It seems like lately, the opposing players we want shooting 3s have been making them (like Jaxon Kohler). A bit unlucky IMO.
Yep, that happened with Kohler last night, Odukale from Minnesota last week and Royal from Ohio State the week before.
All three made way more than their season averages and it almost looked like we were trying to bait them into shooting threes by barely contesting despite having plenty of opportunity to step out on them.
I understand the theory, lure bad shooters into taking shots beyond their comfort level and keep it out of the hands of the better scorers. The part that is frustrating is that so much of shooting is confidence.
So once they have knocked a couple down, you can't just keep leaving them completely wide open because they are feeling good and are more likely to make another.
I mean we are good at limiting threes like you said. Teams just shoot a crazy high percentage against us in their limited attempts. I can't figure out why. Maybe luck. It does coincide with the point in the season when Tre lost his starting job and stopped getting minutes and Riley started seeing an uptick in minutes.
I think maybe we've traded defense for offense and we just aren't good enough on offense to make that math work.

I hope Underwood recovers the compromising pics Ben has of him then. I mean, I assume it has to be something like that for him to keep getting 30 minutes a game when he should be getting 10.
I think a look at BU's tenure here at Illinois would show that turnover with player roster as well as the coaching staff has been the norm...I'm not suggesting that some change isn't good and necessary, but multiple changes every year doesn't exactly promote continuity....and unfortunately with the portal and nil I don't see that changing soon
