Slow down the transition buckets and we win this game
Which might cause an occasional 10 second violation. The horror!

You can tell BU was determined to slow down Iowa. And it worked pretty damn well. I think it will be a nice blueprint for AZ.

Could have a student manager with a big trash can. Bang once for 'shoot' and twice for blind side double team. I read somewhere that works for signaling opponents moves.
The Houston Astros say ...that's probably not a good idea

Am I the only one getting a “gut feeling” that we lose this game? My brain says this is a tossup, we will need to continue playing well to win. Hope our guys bring it!

I've watched them play a couple of times, they are big and athletic. This one scares me, although not as badly as it did 2 weeks ago. If we're sloppy with the ball it could get ugly, but bring our A game and we got a decent chance.

Are they a good rebounding team? If we turn the ball over AND can’t make up for it by taking or keeping possession of the ball with rebounding then I’m a bit more worried.

edit: Arizona is a good rebounding team. We are 5th in rebounding margin (+14) while they are 13th (+11). Hmmm. I guess we’ll just have to make a lot of our shots…

One area where we have a good advantage over AZ is 3 pt shooting. We are tied for 79th, at 36.04 percent while Arizona is 199th, at 32.96 percent. We have also taken about 30 more shots over our 9 games to-date. So if we can slow them down a bit, keep slightly better control of the ball, edge them out in rebounding, and make more 3 pointers I think we can get the win. Two of those things we are already statistically better at, so here’s to hope!

Trent's first missed FT of the season, they said.
Thank you! I got confused because I remembered that whomever it was got jinxed because they put that stat up right before the shot lol. Still, super impressed with our improvement in FT shooting this year.

One more interesting factoid. We are 282nd (out of 358) in turnover percentage at about 18.7%, while Arizona was 54th, at about 14.1%. I think the Iowa game had about 70 possessions, so if that is the same tempo as this game will be, that’s about a net loss of 3 possessions, which is exactly how much better our rebounding margin is. I’ll be really interested to see how this game plays out.

I think you guys are giving too much credit to Arizona. The Michigan score looked bad because Michigan shot a horrendous 1-14 from 3. Other than that, I feel like fast paced "running" teams look good early against the small schools because they run up the score. Play a half court game and it's an easy win.

To echo the turnover issue, Illini are 330th in turnover margin at -4.6 per game. Arizona is 34th at +4.4 per game.

We do have a common opponent. Zona played that UTRGV team that hung around with us late in the game. Zona beat them by 54. Now, I think we have gotten better since then and maybe UTRGV got better between Zona and when they played us, but Zona smoked a team we struggled with. I'd love to see us blow out Zona, but that's a tall order.
