For sure. AI is inevitable. I could spiral on this all day but don't want to upset people by being off topic lol..so last thing I'll say about it.

The way we're talking about in my industry (advertising, branding) is that in our careers, it's more likely that we'll be replaced by a human who knows how to use AI better than us than it is for us to be replaced by AI.

But ultimately yeah, AI will replace a lot of jobs. Eventually, in the distant future, I think enough jobs will be replaced to the point that corporations who rely on AI instead humans will have to pay a hefty tax which will go to workers displaced by AI. Businesses will accept this because if they put too many people out of work, there will be no one left to buy what they're selling.

To bring it back to basketball, a desktop computer running Windows 98 could probably out coach Ed Cooley.
You’re dreaming about that tax. Just like all the taxes that industries pay for workers replaced by robotics? Replaced by overseas workers making 75% less?

There will be noise I agree, especially since there will be many more white collar professionals affected today as opposed to more blue collar as in the past. But in the end the work will go away without alternate compensation to the former workers.

I served three years in the nuclear powered cruiser USS Arkansas (CGN41). The people of that state adopted our ship and were always very generous, offering free football tickets, gift baskets, and boxes loaded with goodies for the crew at Christmas. School kids wrote letters to the crew all the time, groups of citizens flew out to visit when we were in our homeport, and many other kindnesses were extended. That being said, as an Illinois grad and die hard fan, I am rooting for a convincing win by the beloved on Thanksgiving, but otherwise have no animus towards the state of Arkansas or their flagship university.

Back to basketball, CBS pulled a real power move by scheduling Illinois and Arkansas as it did. Consider that many illinois fans are also Chicago Bears fans and many Razorback fans are also Dallas Cowboy fans. Bears fans watch their game then keep it on the same channel. But the Cowboy viewership may be splintered by Arkansas fans who will watch basketball before flipping the channel two hours later to football.

Well played, CBS.

I was told in a company meeting that almost half of white collar jobs will be replaced by AI by 2030. This was information sent directly from Microsoft. This is what's being sold to executives and they love it. They are replacing RNs for $9/hr virtual "AI" nurses and say they can have classrooms with over 200 kids where a tablet with AI will teach your kids with one teacher (or help desk person) overseeing everything.

There are already several career spaces that are being obliterated by AI. Especially artistic and media production work.

Source: I'm in cloud IT and deal/work with AI often.
I'm not buying that timeline. Add another 5-10 years and I might believe it.

AI's are good at collating and formatting data quickly. e.g. generating the first draft for a presentation. They make mistakes in sequencing and details. e.g. Lots of AI art has 6 finger hands for some reason. If you want good work, a human has to iterate multiple times to refine the results, and then do a bit of final cleanup.

AIs are poor teachers in general. They are great sources of information. It isn't the same thing. Teaching requires presenting the information in the way the student learns, not as you organize things. A good teacher flips between multiple learning modes based on the question asked, and who asked the question. e.g. I know Little Johnny learns best from bottom up answers. The mixture of learning modes is what makes teaching in a classroom much harder than teaching an individual -- even assuming everyone there wants to learn and is behaved.

The theory of N students and 1 instructor has been a pipe-dream since the late 60s. Computer based instruction (CBI) is great for allowing students to go at their own pace. The students still have lots of questions. Sometimes they misread something and get stuck. Sometimes they don't understand the presentation. Sometimes they want to explore hypotheticals, either for fun or to further their understanding. e.g. Does this mean that ... You need enough people to answer their questions. You need people who can figure out why the student is stuck. (Computers fail at this.)

I expect AI to make quick inroads and be a very valuable time savers. For example, art studios are using AIs to quickly iterate through rough ideas. This saves a lot of time, and allows exploring more options than you could with an artist. The cost of trying something and throwing it away is a minute. Some studios then use the AI art. Others, who want higher quality results, give the AI generated art, and instructions to an artist. The artist creates the drawing from scratch using the AI art as a sort of template.

Source: I spent decades in hi-tech, including some AI work, and a lot of teaching. I've worked at places specializing in CBI.

Ok, so I am curious and want to take a poll. I have created 6 designs using different AI prompt. I'm trying to get faster at this while get better. So looking for some feed back, while, having fun board discussion as we all wait for Thanksgiving. So the my humble question is,

"Which image do you like? "and "why?

Thanks in advance

ps. I made them smaller in order not to bloat the page.

I will be at this game with my family for my 3rd in-person Illinois game. Unfortunately, the other two I have been to were the Cincinnati game last time we played in KC and the Maryland home game last year. Hoping to finally catch an Illinois win in person this year!
No worries, I got your bad juju covered, my last 3 have all been wins, including 2 in the Kohl Center. Going to follow up this game with the Raiders/Chiefs on Friday at Arrowhead, followed by a little Q39 to finish off a couple of great days in KC.

Oh please keep talking Chin.
1.) Things aren’t going so well at Arkansas are they? Cal is already having to beg fans to show up, and he’s using Chin Coleman of all people as a buffer? (I liked it better when he was telling him to sit down and shut up.)

2.) So Chin is some crackerjack bench coach now?? “Chin, we’d like to hire you for your keen basketball mind.”…said no one, ever.

3.) I’m not gonna lose any sleep over this; any more than I am over Cooley’s weird comments.

I have 2 very close son's. Oldest went from Texas Trooper to now DA prosecutor. Youngest serves his University by protecting his fellow students, billion dollar facilities, finishing his physics degree this semester. Flying licenses done. Will be moving on to flightschool next semester. Getting out of my house and soaring.
My point: they are competitive and awesome. Used to like to beat each other up. But if you messed with 1, you get the other.
So, which twin will be more physical and push each other first? 😆 🤣

Beside March Madness, Feast week is awesome. 15 out of 18 Big10 teams are locked and ready to go. Man it's going to be a season where I have Tums and my heart meds., next to me. Game on!

No problem with him stating this. He severed our team wonderfully like, Chester, and Tim. We've had some amazing coaches on coach Underwoods staff. Kudos to coach for identifying and making these men rich and improved in their craft of coaching.
Geez, I hope not.

I like it when Will and Kasparas shoot free throws. I hope they get to the line early and often.
