Oh, this could be a rivalry. They have a brand new stadium closer to campus, so they aren't going to be playing in front of 1,000 fans anymore. If they show they can beat us and if they improve in the Big East, recruiting will become increasingly difficult. It sure did in the early 2000's when Fat Pat was running the show.

This game does not benefit Illinois whatsoever. If we win, we were expected to win and if we lose, we lose credibility and they gain it and have a recruiting pitch.

It's was much to our benefit that we did not schedule them when they were actually good and quite honestly, they aren't THAT bad now. They're bottom basement of the Big East, but they're competitive and like somebody said....they have size.

A loss here and 670 will be all over it, as will the Chicago papers.

Who is "Fat Pat" ??

You don't remember Pat Kennedy? That dirty idiot pulled the top public league kids.....basically stole Bobby Simmons right from under our noses.

He pulled Imari Sawyer, Quentin Richardson, Bobby Simmons and Lance Williams during one recruiting cycle. That team won a tournament game and was on the way to being legit, until Richardson bolted to the NBA. I think Sawyer was in a car wreck and did some pretty good damage to himself.

Yeah, Fat Pat Kennedy and Tracey Dildy were an issue for a bit.

I don't know where else to post this. But do you guys think Underwood will keep up with wearing the orange blazer every now and then? And if so, when do you think is the right game to do it first? Personally, I say at the Braggin' Rights Game.

Good question. I can't imagine Underwood rocking that blazer but then again, something something dream school.

He will, and I'm eyeing that Dec. 3rd Maryland game (1st home big ten game) as the debut.

Man this is my rule #1

In big games, I have no problem with betting against Illinois. In those situations, I'm delighted to lose the bet, and if Illinois loses the game, getting some money takes the edge off the team's loss.

I'll never understand why people think that a person betting on something means that the person wants that thing to happen (or that its somehow disloyal.)

I have no idea what to expect. As someone said, we look pretty beatable. The T-M game didn't impress me, although there were some nice plays along the way. After watching Duke/MSU, I'd say we're not in the same league as those teams.

I'd say that's a very solid observation....MSU will give us a severe beatdown

Thanks, winthiscentury. Yes I do remember Pat Kennedy and I remember that he was a good recruiter. I blanked out because of the "Fat Pat" part.
I remember that he was kind of chunky, but I don't remember him being fat, and I certainly never remember him being called "Fat Pat".

I was in Vegas for the NCAA tourney (2007) and bet against UI while they were playing Virginia Tech. I felt dirty collecting my winnings. I was much happier when UI was up double digits and I was going to lose. I am not certain if that money went to drinking or the craps table...

Their minutes need to come in the first half. If they play well, give them more, if they don’t then sit them for the second until you trust them. If it’s close in the second half and you don’t trust they can give quality minutes then you play who you must.

BU also said a lot about expecting people to have the scouting report down cold, it could have something to do with that

Of course we're not. Who ever thought that? Those are potential national championship contenders. We'll be lucky to make the tourney.

We are young and have a new coach; I will have zero expectations other than a GREAT effort and improvement this year. I'll enjoy each win until the next game, and it would sure be nice to beat an instate team to get to 3-0. :)

I'm predicting we look the best we have so far and beat DePaul 73-66.

I’m thinking more along -5 or -6 good guys

That seems like a good guess. I'll go a shade tighter and say -4.5.

They hung with #13 Notre Dame through the first 5-10 minutes of the second half, and didn't get blown out. On paper this is a very close game.

The player to watch out for DePaul: Tre'Darius McCallum. Leading scorer on the team at 15 ppg. Shooting 61% from the field thus far. Can be a load at 6-7, 200 on the block.

Other players to keep an eye on: Max Strus (13 ppg), Eli Cain (12.5 ppg) and Devin Gage (10 ppg). Strus is a woeful 4-15 from deep (26%).

Freshman Jaylen Butz is the leading rebounder (9 rpg), though GS Marin Maric is the starting center.

With Northwestern's loss last night, a win would be nice.

For bragging rights, I suppose, but Creighton's not a bad team at all and that shouldn't be a bad loss for NU.

Looking at DePaul's advanced stats on KenPom I see a team that is very beatable. They give up a lot of 3 point attempts, send teams to the foul line at a pretty good clip, and aren't shooting the ball particularly well. The flip side is that so far, UI is in about the same boat, so it should be an evenly matched game.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
I hope we hit 100 and JCL regrets his choice every second of the game.

What did he do that makes you wish ill will towards him? He transferred because the coach that recruited him got fired and he may not have been comfortable with the new staff/style of play. I think it's totally reasonable and understandable.

If I were a betting man, I'd say both:):D:D:cool:
