Will JCL be on the DePaul bench? That could get interesting.

Underwood previews DePaul

Underwood: It's great to be 2-0 and have a tremendous amount of teachable moments.

Underwood: Breaking down film and trying to get guys to understand the process. At times, we're pretty good at that.

Underwood: In the 1st half vs. UT-Martin thought we were tremendous in defensive rotations. Efficiency on offense was good.

Underwood: Need more rebounds, especially from the Marks.

Underwood: Good week of practice. Threw a quote at them this week from Grayson Allen about wanting to be horse at the end of every game from talking to the freshmen. Need constant communication.

Underwood: DePaul is scary in transition. 4 guys who are capable of getting a rebound and running the break. Drive the ball to the rim.

Underwood: Also a team that's been dominant on the offensive glass. Big basketball team. Have to get bodies on them in our rotations.

Underwood: Trying to play with more rhythm offensively. Ball reversals. Turning down a good shot for a better one. Did that against UT-Martin.

Underwood: No concerns with shooting. Shot the cover off the ball in the secret scrimmages. Seen it in practice.

Underwood: As I see other games with top freshmen in the country, Mark Smith is right there.

Underwood: See another level of confidence from AJ every day.

Underwood: Kipper and I have had some really productive conversations. At the end of practice yesterday, I gave him a hug. He's been very responsive.

Underwood: Trent has played a lot at the point. I'm not easy to play for at the point. Want him to be more vocal. Has the ability to be great. Doesn't know how good he can be.

Underwood: Da'Monte's value to our team may be different than what you'd describe as growth. He has 'it'.

Underwood: Da'Monte is a great hockey assist guy. If Da'Monte doesn't make a pass, the assist doesn't happen. Better shooter than he gets credit for. Want him to shoot more.

Underwood: Greg has been dominant in practice rebounding the basketball in the last 10 days.

Any suggestions on where to watch the game in Chicago this Friday? My girlfriend's parents are good friends with the owners of Roadhouse 66 in Wrigleyville, and after the game we will be going there to meet them ... so close(ish) to Wrigleyville is a plus but not a necessity.

Thanks in advance!

BOOM! Feed my ego.
What did he do that makes you wish ill will towards him? He transferred because the coach that recruited him got fired and he may not have been comfortable with the new staff/style of play. I think it's totally reasonable and understandable.

Because if that happens then it means the UI basketball team is moving in the right direction, and I love schadenfreude. I live for it. Go Illini. :shield:

School Yard Tavern is about a mile from there, it is an Illini bar.

Did our pub crawl last Saturday, so familiar with the route:D

School Yard is on School and Southport Streets, just north of Belmont.

Saying he hopes he regrets it isn't ill will. Just means we're playing better and going to go farther. I don't wish anything bad on him, but I hope that by the end of the game, he regrets it too!

I'll second this. Love the Schoolyard!

For bragging rights, I suppose, but Creighton's not a bad team at all and that shouldn't be a bad loss for NU.

Looking at DePaul's advanced stats on KenPom I see a team that is very beatable. They give up a lot of 3 point attempts, send teams to the foul line at a pretty good clip, and aren't shooting the ball particularly well. The flip side is that so far, UI is in about the same boat, so it should be an evenly matched game.

KenPom doesn't mean much to look at this early in the year. Obviously it's statistics based, and reliable stats need a big sample size. Don't look at KenPom until January at the earliest.

It could have just been AJ was getting sick of the interview. Personally, the interview was very annoying. Instead of saying things like, "you have been playing very well lately. Do you think you could really flourish in this offense/defense?," it was a lot of, "remember your freshman and sophomore years? You didn't play a lot. Does that make you mad? Your season is off to a great start. How did it feel not to play your first 2 years."

I really like how AJ handled the interview. I think he has a great attitude and I hope future interviews focus on what he is doing now and how he feels about the future.

Loyal...that was a great response you posted. There's two things that have changed.
1. He has been given an opportunity.
2. More importantly...he feels the Coaches Trust
His work ethic has not changed, nor has his skillset.

Welcome back. AJ clearly showing that the coach has his back. No more quick trigger pulling players out with one missed shot. And players need to know they can make a mistake and know they will be given a chance to make up for it on the next play. His D has been very good - especially on help side.
