For those old enough to remember that McNeese St game, we put in the backups with about 2 minutes to go with the score 71-51 and McNeese St start hitting every shot they took it seemed like for those last two minutes.
I was surprised to see that score since I had no memory of that game being close, but you're right. The internet proves it so:

From about the 1:40:00 mark they start pouring in shots from everywhere.

Not a huge fan of playing on a court laid over ice. Have seen too many cases where bad slips happen and players get hurt. Even with the layer of insulation in-between.
Derailed Kenny back in '89 and maybe Lowell Hamilton as well. I just remember coming home from work and learning that Kenny was hurt after slipping on the floor during practice in Minneapolis. Might have cost us a championship.

What was an ice rink doing on the floor of the Metrodome in '89??!!

I should clarify - it wasn't an rink. There was some sort of leak/humidity issue inside the Metrodome. Kenny took a spill during a shoot around. I'm just gun shy after what happened. Don't like seeing a rink there. <shrug>

Drexel made a lot of tough 3’s in their championship game which scares me a bit, but it doesn’t look like they like to take a huge volume of 3’s.

So long as we hold them to 20ish attempts, which is about what they are averaging, we should be able to weather just about any kind of shooting night from them.

We've seen all kinds of teams shooting 3's like crazy on us, no problemo though, e.g., Trice, Bohannon, etc., we'll defend them.

Kenny slipped and tweaked his knee because of a leak in the Metrodome roof when it was raining. A puddle of water formed on the court from the drips.

I may be beating a dead Bulldog, but to win the Big Ten tournament, Illinois had to beat #7 Ohio and #8 Iowa. There will be teams that make the Final Four who face less competition than we did in our conference.

Illinois should have been #1 overall. Even mediocre teams in the Big Ten like Michigan St and Maryland are demonstrably better than BYU, Pepperdine, Pacific and Loyola Marymount.

Just sayin.
Luckily, the B1G has the tournament to prove the superiority of the conference

I remember the Lakers playing the Celtics in the Finals back in the 80's. They were in old Boston Garden. It was June. About 95 degrees. Even with the chillers on, the ice was melting. Fog was forming in the rafters. The Parquet floor was buckling. They had dead spots on the floor where the ball wouldn't bounce right. It was a real mess. Guys were slipping. It was worse for the Lakers because the Celts knew where the bad spots were. The cameras showed the puddles on the floor. They mopped it up during timeouts but still crazy. I have never liked the idea of a basketball court over an ice rink since then even though they are everywhere.

Why is an ice rink under all of that any more slippery than a court laid directly over concrete?

Drexel highlights:

I know it's bad karma to assume a win but, I find it very hard to believe that team will take down Illinois.

Drexel's interior defense looks absolutely abysmal. Assuming our team doesn't sleep through this game, Kofi ought to score about 30 assuming he is on the floor long enough.

Getting ahead of myself but for fun lets compare 04/05 team and this one. Center - current team Cofi v. Augustine nothing against James but come on..., Forward Powel 04/05 takes slightly, Guards...Dee, Deron and Luther tough to beat. Ayo has huge upside but Frazier and Miller not Dee or Luther. Bench goes to current team. Thoughts,,,,,,,Keep in mind Illini beat Gonzaga in In Indy preseason Wooden Tourny, Wooden said after game "one of the best displays of team play ever"

This was crazy, seemed like an elaborate joke was being played.

Depends on the humidity and temperature differential between the bottom to top of the playing surface - if the insulation doesn’t work well and there’s a large differential it would form more condensation like a glass of cold water. The insulation is probably pretty good quality for this use but I could see poor installation or movement letting cold air cause slippery spots.

Just guessing that the extra coolness from the ice causes the warm, humid air in the arena to condense more readily on the floor.

That's a lot of ifs. I have a hard time believing that, in 2021, the insulation isn't sufficient.

My concern would be on the installation rather than the quality. Hopefully, and most likely, it will be just fine but in the end there is a nonzero risk in putting courts on ice rinks and people having reservations is understandable imo.

This year's coaching and chemistry win.

Players and coaches used to amuse themselves before games by seeing how many stacked quarters you could fit between parquet squares.

It's IUPUI's home stadium so they play basketball on it on a regular basis. I don't think it will be an issue. I haven't heard if players that play on it during the season have had issues but you would think if they did they would find another place for them to play.
