Wow, I thought the forecast was calling for sunnier weather since a few days have passed. Clearly the meteorologist once again was wrong. Please don't let your children watch this massacre! It will take EVERYONE playing their very best game of their careers to finish this season on a high note. I think the only game they may have a slight chance to win is Iowa [20%] This season and this group of players were way over hyped from day 1. Shame on you Brad! This is the gang that couldn't shoot straight!

This is more of a bigger problem. Offensive strategy. Everyone in college basketball runs ball screens but the Illini run the 2-man game with no action on the weak side. During the ball screen, the other 3 players stand and wait for our PG to make a play. We just got beat by 2 teams (WI and Michigan ST) that have completely revamped their offensive philosophy. Go back and watch the movement in their offense compared to ours. Also, I don't know anything about Tyler (he could be a basketball savant for all I know) but whenever the cameras show our bench, Brad seems to be only talking with his 28-year-old son. I find that interesting when you have assistants with way more coaching experience on the bench.I'm with you. I've been wondering whether other teams are suffering this run of illness and, if not, why we are. The flu has been especially pervasive this winter, but shouldn't all teams in cold-weather belts like ours be struggling with this, too?
Otherwise, it it nutrition, hygiene... excessive use of Red Bull and poppers?!
If you map out the sickness, it sounds like Tomi, Will, Dra, Tre, and Jake have been the ones to get sick. It could be Tomi's immune system isn't used to North American disease so he gets it first and it spreads from there to American players who seem to get over it faster. As a team apologist, I am going to be positive and say that this whole Team wide sickness situation is legit.
IF TRUE, there's not a whole lot you can do, but give everything that you've got to give. Brad not wanting his kids to get in the handshake line was a cool move. If we're THAT BAD.....all they can do is ride it out. You can't practice with the team in that type of shape.
My question is.....how has this been an issue for over a month? Constant illness CAN BE a byproduct of cleanliness or common sense. There should be absolutely no way that these illnesses can be running through the team three times in a winter.
In any event, with how bad we've looked in recent second halves from a conditioning standpoint, it's hard to argue the situation. Conditioning hasn't been an issue under Brad or Fletch.......Ever.
So, that's my positivity shining through.
I can't. I see someone mentioned 79. I wasn't old enough for that one but as I understand it, that was just massive injuries at the wrong time that drove it off a cliff. I can say I've never seen a time whose high to low in terms of quality was so wide. They looked spectacular against Oregon & Indiana in particular. Truly looked like a final four capable team. I know some of the L's have been with illness or injury issues but even healthy they looked horrid at NW and the end of MSU.Can any old timers recall a Illini season spiraling this bad in late Feb turning it around?
His D is holding him back, IMOI would love it. I would also think that there's next to zero chance of it happening. Our coaches go on and on about this EDG stuff, but when I guy like DGL has exemplified that profile, we haven't rewarded it.
I expect that sort of experience was why they agreed to this game. Assuming we get blown out again, our consultation prize is that we deprived them of that.I am interested to see how Duke does in the tournament. Because of how bad the ACC is, they've been in a lot of blow outs. Can they execute in the last 4 minutes of a close game? With the strength of the SEC, B1G, and B12 there are a lot of teams with close game experience that Duke doesn't have.
No, but this season reminds me of our 1978-1979 team. Had a great start to the season, beat Magic J & Sparty, and on January 15, 1979 we were ranked 4rth in the country. Steve Lanter our point guard got injured, we had no quality back-up pg and we lost our last 5 games of the year. No post season that year, not even the NIT. That team had some good forwards and centers; Eddie Johnson, Mark Smith, Derek Holcomb, James Griffin, Neal Bresnahan and Levi CobbCan any old timers recall a Illini season spiraling this bad in late Feb turning it around?
This. I think we may have a bit of a leg up if we're able to keep it close right for that reason. However, keeping it close is more than unlikely at the moment.I am interested to see how Duke does in the tournament. Because of how bad the ACC is, they've been in a lot of blow outs. Maybe it will be snowed out.....
Why did you remind of this? I work really hard on removing it from my memory. In 1979, we beat Michigan St. with Magic Johnson, on a Thursday. We we were 15-0, and going to be number 1 in the polls the next Monday, but then lost on Saturday to Ohio St. (that had Kelvin Ransey and Clark Kellogg) in overtime. Additionally our point guard Steve Lanter tore his ACL in that game. We ended the season 19-15 and went to the NIT.
I disagree. Even when 100% healthy, we rely too heavily on our 3 pt shooting, which is too erratic, AND when we having a bad night at 3s, we revert to hero ball. That does not bode well for the win or go home nature of tournament play.If they can get healthy again they can play with anyone. With what has happened idk if that will actually occur though. Feels like a first round exit right now
