I predict that we elect to wear our regular orange uniforms, we shoot more than 30 three-pointers, we make less than 30% of those three-pointers and we lose by 20-25. :(

I told you a month ago, as you expressed reservations, that you wouldn't regret taking your in-laws to the MSU game last weekend. Five minutes into the game after two Rez monster flushes, I was all "Yeah, man, Fighter's livin' large in AH and lovin' this."

Then it all collapsed and I vowed Sunday morning never to make optimistic predictions again.

That's my usual long-winded way of say that I'm not going to argue with you. I do hope it's the orange throwbacks or the script "Illinois." At least let me enjoy that. And the 11 beers I will consume to get me through it all.

That will probably cost about what you paid for the tickets.

And that will come to $457 plus tip. Would you like to round up and make a donation?

Edit: @Illini2010-11 beat me to it

No, but this season reminds me of our 1978-1979 team. Had a great start to the season, beat Magic J & Sparty, and on January 15, 1979 we were ranked 4rth in the country. Steve Lanter our point guard got injured, we had no quality back-up pg and we lost our last 5 games of the year. No post season that year, not even the NIT. That team had some good forwards and centers; Eddie Johnson, Mark Smith, Derek Holcomb, James Griffin, Neal Bresnahan and Levi Cobb
I was in the Orange Krush then, even thought at that time it was called the Orange Krunch. I still talk about that team beating Magic's team. It was so exciting. However, with that team, I don't remember us playing or beating any really good teams other than MSU. Maybe Mizzou was good, but mostly we played cupcakes back then in the pre-season and racked up a bunch of wins. We were undefeated going into that game, and barely won again once Steve Lanter blew out his knee. This team still has a chance to make a little noise in March if we get healthy again, even without Rez. That team had a losing record, I believe we will win some more games this year...

I didn't say when and where I would consume them. You really think I'd risk settling into my seat in a state of anything less than passive, numb acceptance of imminent destruction? :ROFLMAO:

In fact, come to think of it, throwing back a couple 20 oz MD 20/20s over in Jersey around 7 p.m. before hopping on the PATH train will probably see me through.

This was my first year of law school and first year as a basketball fan. My memory was that we beat Kentucky at Kentucky, or somewhere. I keep meaning to look it up, but fear I will just prove myself wrong.

Well, I looked it up. We actually did beat some ranked teams that year, and those big wins were indeed held in Lexington, Kentucky, but the teams we beat were #8 Syracuse and #17 Texas A&M. We were undefeated when we played MSU but after that, we lost to OSU in OT, I think that was the game when Steve blew his knee out. We only won 3 more games the rest of the year. Our record was 19-11 but 7 and 11 in the conference. Lost our last 5 games. I had forgotten about the tournament in Lexington because I wasn't there, only went to the games at the Assembly Hall. It was a tale of two seasons, great first half (15 and 0) and not so great second half. Also, even though Steve Lanter never played another game as an Illini, he was very successful in business and donated lots of money to the Ubben Complex. I had a class with him (History of Sport) and helped him out get a good grade in the course so in lieu of actual money, I figure that was my donation to the Illini Basketball program.

In 1979, we beat Michigan St. with Magic Johnson, on a Thursday. We we were 15-0, and going to be number 1 in the polls the next Monday, but then lost on Saturday to Ohio St. (that had Kelvin Ransey and Clark Kellogg) in overtime. Additionally our point guard Steve Lanter tore his ACL in that game. We ended the season 19-15 and went to the NIT.
I listened to that MSU game on a Walkman in my first night school class at U of Chicago. Stats class, everyone bored to squat, and I am fidgeting left and right w every play. Man, did I get some crazy looks. What a game!

I know Fletch is killer from the strength side, but does his stamina training match that? Just asking, because I remember the 05 team were all running regularly, and had to clock a 5 or 6 minute mile at some point.

With all the injuries and sickness on the Illini, maybe the wise thing to do is forfeit the game against Duke and keep the boys home to recover.
